Best little speaker for the money, blows Bose away

Excellent product. Must buy if looking for balanced sound.

I’ve had this speaker for a little over a year, and unfortunately it started having serious problems almost immediately after the manufacturer’s warranty expired. It now turns itself on randomly, refuses to shut off reliably, and the power button often doesn’t respond. I’ll turn it off, it powers back on, and I have to repeat this multiple times before it finally stays off. I’ve tried everything you’re supposed to try: resetting it, checking and updating the firmware, and making sure all software is current. None of that has helped. At this point it’s more frustrating than useful. Given the price and the reputation of the brand, this has been a major disappointment. I would not buy this speaker again and cannot recommend it.

Marshall makes beautiful speakers and amps that are capable of great sound quality - but the key word is capable, from a hardware perspective only. You'll need to use their app for this speaker, which uses only bluetooth LE, while this speaker and all others that they make use only archaic traditional bluetooth. So while your phone might connect to it (and all the notifications your phone gets - you can't make it the primary device), the Marshall app won't. This is a problem in 2 ways: 1 it decimates the sound quality and means you can't adjust anything because you need the app to do that. 2 as many reviewing the app with other speakers of theirs that it did work with (or who have iphones/different devices): the sound quality is dependent on software updates to not nuke anything, and it seems Marshall is incapable of hiring an engineer with even high school level skills. Basically it's like paying for a nice gaming PC, brand new parts, beautiful design, but it comes preinstalled with so much malware it's unusable....but in bluetooth speaker/app form. If this speaker at least had the option of being wired (not ideal but means that you're not dependent on a phone app) or had some basic controls on the back, then I'd honestly keep it despite the cost and lost functionality. It doesn't though, and it's such a disappointment, because I can tell from the design of the physical speaker that this was designed to last....unfortunately some exec clearly wanted an app just to have an app and advertise other Marshall products, without intending on that app working. Because it's relevant: I use a Samsung Galaxy S23 as my phone (so latest model flagship android phone at the time of this purchase), but I have the same issue trying to download the app and troubleshoot from an ipad to see if Marshall simply isn't an option for Android users (still a major design flaw when there's not physical workaround).
