I Really Like These Headphones
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like these Marshall Monitor III headphones. The headphones sound great and the noise canceling works well too. The headphones are very comfortable to wear and they feel secure on my head when moving around. The ear cushions are very soft and pillowy and completely cover my ears. They are also very comfortable to wear with glasses and don’t pinch or interfere with my glasses. The headphones have a solid construction, yet they feel very lightweight on my head and are easy to wear for long periods of time. They are also hinged to fold up compactly. They come with a nice, compact, zippered hard case. This case is great for travel and has a magnetic pocket to hold the usb c charging cable and stereo cable. The usb c charging cable is short, just under 9 inches long, but gets the job done. My only complaint with the Monitor III headphones is the usb c - 3.5mm stereo cable. First, the usb c connection means that you can’t use the audio cable unless the headphones are turned on. So, if the headphones aren’t charged up or on a long trip your battery runs out, you can’t just listen through the audio cable. The second and bigger issue is that the sound through the usb c cable is really crappy, quiet with a lot of static. The headphones do connect wirelessly quickly and easily to multiple devices. Marshall claims up to 70 hours of playtime and this seems believable since I’ve only charged them once in the week that I have been using them and even when I charged them they weren’t even fully depleted yet. There is a Marshall app which is not needed to use the headphones, but does have some useful features, like wireless firmware updates and some customization options. For example, there is an “M” button on the right ear that can be set to control Spotify, the graphic equalizer, voice assistant, or soundstage. I set mine to soundstage, which is a cool feature that virtually changes the size of the listening room, so you can make your music sound more like you are listening in a small room or a large concert hall or something in between. The app also has a graphic equalizer and you can have 2 presets. You can also use the app to make some adjustments to the noise canceling. Other useful features in the app control the level of battery preservation (like maximum battery charge and charging speed), standby timeout settings (like how long before they turn off when you take them off), and auto play/pause when you put on/take off the headphones. Overall, except for the usb c audio cable, these are really great over the ear, noise canceling headphones.

Strong audio, slightly weak ANC, firmware fix?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Said it before, and will say it again about Marshall audio products. They have the style that most other brands never even try to attempt. No boring tech plastic products here. Marshall is cool looking, stylish to wear and they sound great. Big and loud Rock n' Roll might not exist without Marshall pushing more power and extra speakers into existence back in the 60's, thanks Jim M. The New Monitor III headphones are no different. They sound and look fantastic. Very comfortable with buttery soft earcups. No finicky knocking, tapping or touch sensors. Marshall has the multidirectional control knob for volume +/- and tracks FWD/BKWD. Even include an oddly, pill shaped, red velvet lined case that will be the envy of all who own it. Yes, I am a fan. Finger horns in the air \../ App/Settings: Because Marshall chose proper buttons and knob the app is only needed occasionally once features are initially setup. I notice with each new product I get from Marshall, their app opens up a bit more. The Monitor III seems to have complete access to all the best features in the app. Most important to me is the Equaliser (British spelling in app). You get 5 preset sound profiles and a custom 5 band equalizer. This will dial you into audio bliss and get the bass thumping. Bonus in the app is "Soundstage". I like this option. It can be dialed up or down to give you a more concert presence. Almost a surround effect different from the Spatial audio sound. You can also define what the ANC button does and what you want the "M" button to control. "M" button choices include: Spotify Tap, Equaliser, Soundstage, Voice Assistant, and Do Nothing, lol. I chose Soundstage for now. There are other options in the app. And you will want to look at each to decide your preferences. I just got to the meat here, left the potatoes for later. Sound/ANC: I find these to have excellent sound in the class of over ear headphones they compete in. Plenty of bass and clean audio vocals without drowning the highs for the rest of the bands instruments and vocals. They can be used to take calls or use assistant and they are good, I just rarely make calls with headphones. When you get them sounding good to you, you might want to test ANC. These Monitor III's sound great in almost every aspect. I found the ANC a little weak for many louder noises. And I know these will not completely remove distracting audio at the same level as in ear models that plug the ear canal. I do hear some audio leaking at lower volume (tv on in same room seems more like transparent). It can be pushed out raising the volume to mid levels and above. And while transparent works, it is not as clean/natural as a few other brands have come up with. This might just be a tweak firmware can help with. I felt it needed a mention. The audio is also slow to stop when removing from head. Takes about 2-3 seconds. Battery/comfort: With the massive 100 hour battery life, 70hrs w/ANC. You won't likely need to charge often. The app has some nifty battery preservation settings worth using to keep the headphones battery tip top longer. With so much battery, long trips and marathon audio sessions require that they be comfortable to wear. And they are. Enough clamping force to stay put while walking and moving to the beat, headbangers aside. I have a big head and they are light enough to not hinder or put too much pressure around my ears. They also are not as bulky as other brands I own. It was getting cooler when I got these, but it never felt like my ears got hot with the shallow cup design. The faux materials look and feel great, even though I wish it was real leather for longevity. The frame/band is metal. Case: It is oddly shaped like a pill or giant clam. Careful it waddles away on slopped surfaces. Case works well and has a pleasing tactile feel with leather like outer texture and ultra plush red felt interior. The zipper is good quality and the interior has a nice pocket where you find a USB-C - USB-C shorty charge cable. There is also a 3ft USB-C - 3.5mm straight cable included. Sadly it is not coiled style, but will fit nice in case. Note: The headphones have a touch of memory to help fold back up to fit back in case. It is easy enough to master this origami trick. Note to Marshall: These headphones sync up to my phone and app [far] easier than your other products. Good job with Bluetooth LE.

Cool Aesthetic - Great Sound Quality and Battery
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Marshall Monitor III ANC Headphones are the latest update to Marshall’s well received Monitor II headphones from a few years back. The Monitor III’s are Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones aimed at the premium headphone space. The III’s have a massive battery life of 100 hrs (70 hrs with noise cancelling on), and they come with a velvet lined hardcase. The III’s can be connected via Bluetooth (v5.3), or through a USB-C to 3.5mm connection with the included auxiliary cord. Charging for the headset is done through its USB-C port and the included USB-C cable. As standard with any new headphones III’s use a companion app to tweak settings and adjust equalizers. Design of the III’s is as far as I can tell pretty similar to the outgoing II’s. They are still over-the-ear headphones, but with a suspension band setup instead of a traditional headband. The headset is made entirely of plastic which helps keep weight down. Each earcup connection is a swivel hinge, which allows the headset to fold/rotate together to fit in the carrying case. The swivel is a full 180° for each hinge, which also helps to flex the headset onto your head. The III’s switch things up and shrink down to 32mm drivers vs. the 40mm of the II’s. These drivers are decently more efficient with a 117 db sensitivity (96 for the 40mm), which aids in the battery life department as well as clarity at lower volumes. As far as connectivity goes the III’s can be simultaneously connected to 2 devices via Bluetooth and will remember 8 devices. They can also connect with the aforementioned USB-C to 3.5mm cable to any device with a headphone port – the headset does not have to be powered on to play this way. The look of the III’s certainly invokes the design feel of a Marshall amp, which is a pretty cool aesthetic. Controls on the headphones are well done. The control knob is where most of the action takes place, but there are 2 additional buttons located on the frame connection to each earcup. I didn’t even notice these 2 buttons at first because they blend in so well. The left earcup button cycles through the ANC modes, while the right earcup button can be assigned to various functions. I left it at the default setting which is Spotify Tap. This function launches Spotify and gets you right into your music. You set it to control the equalizer or soundstage settings as well. The control knob then comes into play for all other functions. Volume control is up and down on the knob, play/pause is a click of the knob, and skipping backward/forward is left or right on the knob. I really liked the control knob interface because it gave me the extra assurance that I was changing a setting with the physical button feedback. Compare this to the touch surface interface of earbuds or the array of buttons and dials on other headphones. For my uses I spent my time wearing the III’s while at working, doing outdoor chores, walking my dogs, and playing games. There are 3 settings for the noise cancelling – ANC, Transparency, and off. For ANC and Transparency you can set the level of the effect in the app. By default it is set to the max. The ANC on these headphones is quite strong and does a great job of isolating you from your surroundings. The Transparency mode also does a good job passing noise through. My surroundings were accurately reproduced, like the sound of a car approaching from behind me while I walk the dogs. Sound quality from the headphones was very good. Its not a complete homerun, but these are some of the best sounding headphones I have used. If you get the app you can adjust the equalizer with 5 different presets or through a custom EQ. The Marshal preset is the default and it sounds pretty good across the music spectrum. If you are looking for a bump to the mids or highs there’s a preset for that as well. Bass Boost is also there, but that’s kind of where the III’s fall a little short. These don’t have a ton of “thump” to them. The bass is clean and clear, but just not as forward as I would like. I want to be able to feel it – or as much as a pair of headphones can make you feel it. However, I do feel the way the III’s carry the mids and highs helps balance this out a bit. Using the headphones to make calls is easy as well. Pressing the control knob once will accept or end a call. To reject a call you click the control knob twice. The onboard mics work well for the most part. In a quiet room the mics worked perfectly. They do start to falter in louder conditions though. The headset kind of kills all sound instead of isolating out background noise to bring your voice to the forefront. It did handle wind noise pretty well on my dog walks, so that was good. When listening to music, if you take the headphones off it will pause playback – most of the time. This setting can be a little wonky depending on how you take the headphones off. Pulling them off my head stopped the music pretty much every time, but pulling them down to hang around my neck led to more of a 50/50 success rate. Comfort of the headset is top-notch. The headset is fairly lightweight, which would lend itself to being more comfortable. The headset uses a suspension band setup, which I gravitate towards in all my headsets. The suspension band isn’t padded, but rather is rubberized which helps the headset you’re your head. The earcups were very plush, and even though they clamped onto my head pretty well they never felt uncomfortable on my glasses. The ear cups are circumaural and made of a leatherette material. In the past this combo usually leaves my ears feeling a little warm, and sometimes sweaty. This was the case here as well – it is a tradeoff for better isolation, so it’s a give and take situation. I was able to wear the III’s for several hours without feeling the need to give my head or ears a break. Overall, the Marshall Monitor III’s are a really great pair of headphones. The ANC on these is very well executed and can feel very isolating if you need it. The sound quality out of the drivers is very smooth and clear – musical reproduction is handled quite well. The battery life is insane on these with 70-100 hours of play time depending on your ANC usage. The overall design is pretty cool and the velvet lined hard case is a nice touch. They offer plenty of connectivity with Bluetooth and 3.5mm support, so they should be able to connect to just about anything. The only middling aspect of the whole thing is the lack of strong bass reproduction. It’s not bad, but pretty middle of the road. It only comes off sounding like a complaint when compared to how well everything else is done.

Amazing Over Ear Headphones, One Major Flaw
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At least for me, anyway. First of all, these headphones are overall pretty amazing. Most comfortable I've felt against all the big players: Sony, Bose, Apple. None are as soft as these. Sound quality is pretty awesome and build quality is both nice and very cool. Minor Downsides: Volume for me was not loud enough. Major downside (showstopper): These headphones did not have a Transparent mode, so calls were too difficult where I could not hear myself or anything around me. Maybe not a prob for others but i was for me.

Marshall stepping up
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Marshall is the latest new contender to join the flag ship noise cancelling headphones lineup and they show some potential. Starting with the pros: I love how portable these headphones can be. You can fold them , sit them around your neck , swivel the ear cups in both directions and on top of that you can even collapse them and they fit in almost any compartment imaginable. They come with a very premium hard shell carrying case and inside the case it has a smooth silky red velour fabric with a compartment for the charging cord and USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. Really puts the Sony, Bose and Apple on notice. The build quality of the Marshall is also worth praising; the Marshall's are literally build like a tank. Scratch proof, dent proof, drop proof. I didn't see an official IP rating in the manual though so I'm not sure if they're waterproof or resistant but they can withstand a splash of water and light rain just don't submerge them into a pool. Last pro to mention but also a con I will mention more in the cons section is the audio quality: the details are very well pronounced and the soundstage is well respected. The bass can pack an upbeat burst and is not too sloppy. If you want to really appreciate an accurate music session you will enjoy these. Now going into the cons: Although I enjoy the elaborate details of the mids and treble and the bass not being too sloppy, I was a bit disappointed with the bass not being more powerful. In some songs the bass was at times mute and I didn't give me the deep low end I crave for in when jamming on bass heavy tracks. I think the small 32 mm drivers these have installed are part of the reason why but only I know and everyone has different ear shapes and wavelengths so it could be just a placebo effect but I wish for low end impact. Another con is the ANC: They have the price tag of a flagship but they most certainly do not perform like $350-400-450 ANC headphones. They perform more like middle of the road $200-250 ANC headphones. So yeah ANC was not as great as I hoped. The transparency was solid though. It's similar to Airpods Max and Bose. So overall a very very good attempt from Marshall stepping into the premium flagship territory but definitely some things they can refine in the next iteration. I would wait for a sale on these honestly.

Great features and comfort! App needs work...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These Monitor III headphones from Marshall sound great but take some getting used to. I had been using some JBL headphones that I thought sounded great, so when I first put these on, I was underwhelmed. I went back and forth between the two and tweeked the equalizer settings a lot. After getting used to the Marshall headphones, what I thought sounded rich and full on the JBL, was in fact more muddled. The Marshall's have much more clarity to them and now I prefer them more. Hopefully Marshall will update the app, as it's pretty disappointing. The equalizer only has 5 bands to adjust and very few presets. They are best for music, not tv. There are no movie modes or voice boost modes. I do really like the design of these headphones. The materials and textures are quite nice. The ear cups are so soft. They are a bit slimmer than others and extremely comfortable! (also very lightweight) The control knob is a great way to control the headphones, very easy to learn and use. I can't speak to battery life yet as they haven't needed charging yet but 80 hours is pretty outstanding. Having a case for travel is nice but I would also like a stand for them to live on at home, I'll have to look for one. After some break in time, these are some great headphones.

Beautiful sound, great noise canceling and battery
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Marshall - Monitor III A.N.C. Wireless Noise Cancelling Over-the-Ear Headphones - Black, does what Marshall has always been known for, and that is reproduce beautiful sound with solid bass, articulate highs, punchy mids, with very low distortion. The headphones do all of that and more! The Noise Cancelling feature works really great for blocking out fan noise, traffic sounds, AC hums, and other unwanted sounds. Also great about the noise cancelling is by blocking out the background noise, my music sounded better than ever... I could here the plucks of the guitar strings, and melodies and soft instruments that I never even knew were in certain songs. And I was also able to keep the volume turned down and still feel all the impact of the music thanks to such a quiet sound stage. The headphones come with a nice hard carry case, that also holds an included C to C charging cable, and a USB C to 1/8" TRS headphone jack so you can plug these directly into your music player for even cleaner sound for those that don't like to use wireless compression. The headphones charged up in a couple of hours, and the battery life is up to 70 hours so you don't have to worry about them cutting off in the middle of your plane ride etc.. The Marshall app for your phone unlocks extra settings and EQ's and a user customizable EQ setting as well. The only downside I found with these is the fit, and that might just be something about my head. I found the headband kept trying to twist on my head due to the band having memory of being twisted to fit into the carry case. Also I found the earpieces to be rotated slightly to far back for my ears, but if I rotated them forward the band was over my forehead instead of the top of my head like it should be. I also found the clamping force to be to soft for using them while running, working out, doing chores, or otherwise moving around... if I looked up or down they would try to slide off my head. They work great when I sit at my desk, or in my chair etc... but I have a nice surround system and a nice speaker set up at my desk, so I don't really need headphones at those places, I'd much rather wear them while moving around but then I have to constantly adjust them and push them back into place... otherwise they would be perfect.

They look and sound great.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Marshall Monitor 3 are a very nice pair of noise cancelling headphones. They fit comfortably on my head. I do have to say that you can tell feel them on your head. Not a bad thing but they are not like other headphones where the goal is for you to not be able to tell you are wearing headphones. I really enjoy the compact nature when not using them. They fold up to just the earpiece size. The case they come with is also high quality and should help maintain the materials These headphones are made of. I enjoy the material. The noise cancelling feature works. I have no complaints about it. I have not taken these on an airplane so I can't tell you how well they do in that environment. Going back to how small the case and headphones are when stored. They can easily fit in any bag, purse, backpack. They do not take up a lot of room if traveling with over the ear headphones is something you do often. The sound quality is good. Bass is solid. Soundstage is clear. They did a good job. I would recommend these headphones to others. I would say these headphones sound well for what they are. After wearing them for an hour or so I was still ok with having them on. Look great, sound great, are comfortable.
