The Stanmore III is a powerful Bluetooth speaker that I plan to have displayed as a beautiful and functional piece of home décor in our new house. Design I love to retro Marshall design to this speaker. While the pictures do not do it justice, they do not deceive you either. The materials look and feel in person eactly as I imagined. From the outer black textured material to the metal on top and on the classic metal power switch. To me, it looks and feels impressive. There are two inputs. One 1/8" stereo input on top and a right/left RCA input on the back. On the top there is a source button that's a three way toggle between Bluetooth, Aux (1/8" stereo), and RCA. There's a red light to show you which is selected. There are also three dials, volume, bass, and treble. The dials turn smoothly and red lights make it easy to see where they're set as you turn. There is one other control on top, press is to pause/resume or slide it left or right for previous or next track. For me, the design sets it apart from other speakers down to the guitar riff sound when it establishes a Bluetooth connection. Features There are two main features I found interesting. One is that it has "Placement compensation". You need to use the app to enable it. You just answer a few questions and it makes changes to the audio output to compensate for some placement issues, like being in a corner or near a wall. I didn't really get to test this but I'm glad to have the option there. The other feature it has that I think is somewhat unique is it's designed with software upgradable Bluetooth hardware. I don't think I've ever seen a Bluetooth device that can be updated for future Bluetooth standards. Who knows how flexible that ability is but I love the attempt and look forward to seeing what new standards it's able to support. I think it's designed to at least support a future low power standard. Sound Of course, what really matters for any speaker is how does it sound. I was totally impressed with the sound of the Stanmore III! The sound seems very rich and wide. The highend is produced very clearly along with lots of other sounds going on. The bass seems excellent, better than I would expect for a speaker this size. There is a depth to the audio that really makes the audio feel more like you're listening to a live performance. Drums, guitars, electric guitars, violins, as well as vocals and regular speech were reproduced clearly. The clarity and fullness of the audio seemed to make some vocals easier to hear and understand in some music. I also used it to listen to an audio drama for a bit and the vocals and background sounds were excellent. Overall The word that comes to me is premium. The Stanmore III has a premium look, a premium feel, and produces premium audio! I strongly recommend it.

Should’ve of had a carry strap, because it’s portable and the one in the store display had one. Could not get one from the factory either, not cool Marshall.

Hello, thanks for your review and feedback. The Stanmore III speaker is not portable, it doesn't have a strap to carry it. This model needs to be plugged in to a power source at all times for it to function. Is it possible you were looking at a different model at the store? The Tufton or Kilburn II would be the largest portable models and they both have a carrying strap.

I purchased this item for my husband and it’s something he really really wanted but for some reason it did not meet what we thought it would based on all the reviews and information we read about before we purchased it is not loud and it keeps coming disconnected with the Bluetooth for some reason Even the Marshall headphones, wireless headphones we got also keep disconnecting with Bluetooth completely not even listed on my phone. It doesn’t work the app of Marshall to control the volume with the speaker. Also does not work very well.

The Marshall - Stanmore III Bluetooth Speaker – Black reminds me of the audio devices that I grew up with in the 1960’s. The faux leather exterior is class personified and the gold tone face plate and knobs emits the look of class and quality technology. It was easy to setup, once I installed the Marshall Bluetooth app. Even though the Marshall - Stanmore III Bluetooth Speaker – Black can operate through RCA jacks and an auxiliary input, I prefer to use its easier Bluetooth connection function. By long pressing the Bluetooth source Selection button, connection was made with my phone. The functionality of the Marshall - Stanmore III Bluetooth Speaker – Black is outstanding. Volume can fill multiple rooms, if needed. The Bass is really strong and deep sounding. The treble creates that crispy clear sound that allows all the higher notes to be heard. The Media Control button for forward and backward song selection works perfectly. The Marshall - Stanmore III Bluetooth Speaker – Black is truly the best independent speaker system that I have ever owned.

    Analog Satisfaction!

This speaker is a nice blend of technology with the satisfaction and fine adjustment of analog controls, all with the classic look of a Marshall amp. I’m a pretty big fan of the design of Marshall’s home audio products where they stand apart from the maybe-too-modern look of most electronics nowadays where it brings some classic design like a mesh speaker grill, the leather-ish looking material surrounding the speaker (appears to be rubber), and the brass analog controls on the top of the unit. The analog controls on the top of the unit are awesome for fine-tuning the volume, treble, and bass and there’s a distinct satisfaction vs just up/down buttons that you typically find. Along with that you also have an aux port (3.5mm), a button to switch sources from bluetooth, aux, or RCA (yes it even has RCA jacks on the back), there’s also a play/forward/back toggle/button, as well as the power switch which is probably the most satisfying to use. For sound, unsurprisingly, rock sounds amazing with the sound signature they chose for this speaker where guitars are crisp and earthy, bass is deep but not overly punchy, and vocals are clear and crisp. Hip-hop also sounds great with a very clear distinction between vocals and beats. Overall, vocals are a highlight of the sound signature so singer-songwriters will sound fantastic. Electronica didn’t seem to fit the characteristics of this speaker as well where the low end may not be as forward and clear as other speakers, even while adjusting the bass level. One thing to note though is that if you’re looking for smart-home-like connectivity options you’ll have to look elsewhere - it only has bluetooth 5.2 and doesn’t have Google Assistant or Alexa support however you can pair it with the Marshall smartphone app where you can adjust the equalizer settings wirelessly. Happy to add this to my collection of Marshall gear - great sound, awesome design, all with that retro feel.

This one is very easy, we are talking about Marshall. I've been using the Kilburn II for over 3 years now, and it has been great. But moving up to this speaker has just been an amazing jump to better sound. First off, this one has to stay plugged in, and that is just fine for me. I used my Kilburn II in the garage, and that is where it lives. This one will fit right in, and deliver even more for me. Second, this one is bigger, much bigger...which is a GREAT thing for me. When I'm outside doing yard work, or washing my cars, I listen to music. While my other speaker delivered amazing sound, this one is seriously worlds better. Sound: 50W subwoofer, and 2 15W tweeters take this speak to a new level of performance for it's size. Bass is very deep [depending on the genre of music you are listening to], and trebles are very high. I have mine set at about 5 out of 10 for bass, and 9 out of 10 for tweets/highs. I love the bass, but you really don't need to set it too high with this speaker. It delivers, trust me. Design: It's a Marshall, so you know the quality of the design is going to be great, and the build quality is top notch. The rubberize texture makes it easy to move around, and also appears to be able to take a beating. I have been using their speakers for some years, and they hold up well. In the end, some might turn an eye to the price, but I feel it's totally worth it. As I stated before, my Kilburn II still works, over 3 years later.

Hello Joanna, thanks for your review. The bass cutting out when played really loud is a safety feature in the speaker that protects the speaker components if a signal is coming through at a level that can damage the parts. Sounds like the Woburn III with is more suitable to your music volume preferences!

Yea, I'm a sucker for old school speakers. Maybe its my age, but the looks of the Marshall Stanmore III speaker seem sexy to me. Kind of reminds me of an old school amp. The Marshall Stanmore III is a bass reflex loudspeaker that checks nearly all of the boxes. It has a 50 watt class D amplifier and two 15 watt class D amplifiers that power a 5 inch woofer and two 3/4 inch tweeters. The box is an open port design that really makes the bass noticeable, especially when placed a few inches from a back wall or in a open cabinet. The speaker is best used with the Marshall app that is available for both Apple and Android. So why do I say it is almost perfect? The Marshall Stanmore is an in-room speaker. It must be plugged into a wall outlet. There is no built in battery to power the unit around a pool or while out camping, so it can only be enjoyed inside where you have an electric outlet. The other, and maybe more important, omission to me is the lack of wifi connectivity. To enjoy the tremendous sound stage this unit can produce, you have to stay in Bluetooth range. If you walk away too far, the connection is gone and so is that great sound. There are options to hook the Marshall up to an audio device with a 3.5MM plug or RCA jacks, so maybe the Bluetooth connection doesn't seem all that important for many. But, for me, I would love to be able to stream to the Marshall via wifi and be able to take my phone with me as I move around the house. If this is not an issue for you, then I suggest you grab hold of one of these speakers. The sound stage is really outstanding and I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed in what they hear from this unit. I love the look and I love the sound, I just wish I could be a bit more portable with it, but right now, I am sitting back listening to some classic rock on my new Marshall Stanmore III. You could be doing the same.

Many folks have seen the Marshall name over the years, and after spending several years doing sound work for various rock bands, I know of Marshalls legendary sound, quality, and power. I never thought of them as being involved in the Consumer electronics field, but when I saw how cool this bluetooth speaker looked, I knew I wanted to try it, and I havent been disappointed! Aside from the great looks, I was impressed with the controls, the app, and placing it outside on my patio table just looks so cool! Its got more than one way to connect to your smart/home audio devices, has a positive on/off toggle switch, has seperate volume, bass, and treble dials, and has a very premium look and feel to it; but how does it sound? Marshall doesnt disappoint with the Stanmore lll, and the sound is powerful, boomy at times, and it gives you excellent granular control of the sound and the volume using responsive knobs onthe top of the unit. Its heavy, due to the impressive speaker array that it brings, and the app is very detailed in allowing you to make all sorts of adjustments, even allowing you to compensate for the speaker being against the wall, or on the edge of a table...very impressive! Its a bit pricey, but in this case, you get what you pay for, so if you want a powerful, area filling, cool looking portable speaker, with multiple ways to connect to your audio life, take a long look at this one; you wont be disappointed!

The Marshall Stanmore III is what you’d expect from Marshall. Heavy, loud, and . . . a conversation starter. I never thought I would refer to a Bluetooth speaker that way, but the aesthetic is awesome and clearly evokes the Marshall heritage. The faux leather, the brass dials and switches, the cloth grill, and of course, the beautiful logo splashed across the front. (Don’t look at the back though. For some odd reason they put all of the required warnings there instead of on the bottom where they wouldn’t ruin the look.) Anyway, this thing is a beast as it weighs over nine pounds. Definitely not a portable speaker to say the least (besides the fact there is no battery…). Instead of a battery inside, there’s 80 watts of power driving a woofer and two tweeters. Like I said earlier, this thing will get loud. But it’s definitely not audiophile quality. There is plenty of thump and the highs are pretty decent, but the midrange can get a little sloppy. Don’t get me wrong, it sounds pretty good (that “Marshall sound” that they advertise) overall. The barebones app can be used to tweak some stuff like bass/treble, placement compensation, and basic playback controls. I didn’t find it helpful or really useful personally. Overall, if you’re looking for a non-portable speaker to use inside, or if you just love all things Marshall, I don’t think you can go wrong here.

the speaker is incredible! I have had the privilege of testing and owning a number of speakers in a variety of categories and this one might very well be my favorite of all. from it's fantastic styling to its immense sound quality. there is really nothing negative that I can say about it. Pros: styling: it might seem weird to put styling as the first pro in the list, but honestly, I don't believe I have owned a speaker that looks and feels better than this. I own the black model and it's retro styling along with its fantastic build quality in the knobs and switches somehow seem to actually contribute to my enjoyment of the speaker overall. I realize that is totally personal preference and placebo effect, but it truly makes listening to music on this feel more like an experience. sound quality - from a relatively compact form factor, this speaker delivers a fantastic array of musical quality. regardless of what type of music you listen to on it, the speaker handles all frequencies of the spectrum amazingly and the basin trouble adjustments only help to improve that. I honestly cannot recommend this speaker enough for those who are in the market for a relatively compact speaker. that will look good and sound even better.

The speaker was well packaged and easy to set up. The speaker itself is beautiful - for a fan of stadium rock, it is nice to finally listen to the bands I like through my own Marshall (a bit smaller than the ones they played through on stage). The instructions included were very clear and I had the speaker charged up in no time. The app installation was easy on my phone and away I went. The speaker has more than enough power for the room I use it in the most (12'x12') and I generally run it at about a 3. Lows are deep and strong enough that I don't miss a separate woofer and the overall sound and tone is quite good. The speaker is pretty light and easy to move around or toss in the car. I brought it out on the deck and listened to podcasts at a low volume with good clarity - surprising given the lack of walls to help keep the sound in. I also used the RCA plug and 3.5mm for testing and they worked fine - I may use the 3.5mm with my PC, but haven't decided yet. All in all, a great sounding and looking speaker with all the connection options that I need.

One thing I loved about this speaker was the overall look and feel. It has a classic rock and roll kind of vibe going on, and would look great in your garage, man cave, or just about anywhere really. The solidly built case has a very nice leather (no, it isn’t real leather - the Stanmore is actually made with 70% recycled plastic and only vegan materials if that’s important to you) look and feel to it, with a cloth speaker cover that has a gold Marshall logo front and center. The metal power toggle switch screams power & practicality begs you to turn it on! I think the sound quality is fairly good. My son thought it was a little ‘boomie’, but he’s always been more sensitive to bass frequencies than most people I know, so take that with a grain of salt. The sound stage is a bit directional, but it’s acceptable considering the form factor. Will it “chase you around the room” as the marketing suggests, definitely not, but it does okay. The app is pretty basic, but that kind of goes along with the overall theme of the speaker anyway, so I’d say that’s a good thing. You can control the bass, treble, and volume. The red LED’s on the physical control panel change along with any changes you make in the app, so that’s a nice touch as well. Other than that, it can control (pause, play, etc…) the music you’re streaming, and facilitate firmware updates. The physical control panel lets you change inputs (bluetooth, aux & RCA), bass, treble, rewind/pause/play/forward (if using the bluetooth input), and the previously mentioned massive power toggle. Speaking of the power toggle, it seems backwards in my opinion, as you pull it towards you (down in relation to the text) to turn the unit on. Maybe that’s just me though. I think the biggest miss for the Stanmore is its lack of wifi. For a speaker approaching $400, I’d expect wifi capabilities. The inability to ‘cast’ music from my Spotify or SiriusXM app is a big let down, and coupled with the price, is probably why I couldn’t recommend this speaker to my friends. Seriously, who doesn’t hate it when you’re listening to some tunes with friends, then whoever happens to be connected to the bluetooth speaker walks to another area and the music starts cutting out. Party foul. Overall, if your primary goal is to achieve a retro rock & roll aesthetic, then the Stanmore is the way to go. If you want functionality & performance, there are better options in this price range.

Hello, thanks for the great review of the Stanmore III. Hold tight for more connectivity options: the Homeline III speakers are hardware ready for LE Audio. This future-proof technology will deliver a higher audio quality, while increasing streaming range and improving audio sync, for a noticeably better connection when you’re watching a video. Also on its way is the Multi-Stream feature that will allow you to connect to multiple speakers from one device, as well as a new Bluetooth capability, Auracast™ broadcast audio, that will allow you to receive Auracast™ broadcast audio from other devices. When this next-generation Bluetooth technology is released, you can feel secure knowing that your speaker is ready for it.
