This Martin Logan 400 mini Dynamo is the little subwoofer that does! You won’t believe a huge sound that comes from a little 8 inch bottom loaded subwoofer. It is terrific value, it is compact and very discreet. All your friends will wonder where all that bass comes from. it’s small with a big punch that punches well above its weight. This subwoofer will please everyone but the most discerning audiophiles. I don’t think there’s a better bang for the buck out there when it comes to subwoofers.

    Perfect for Small Room

This sub matches well to my Martin Logan 15i bookshelf speakers. Was a little worried it might be under powered at only 75 watts RMS, but is more than powerful enough for my 16’ X 20’ room. The sub also has high level inputs which was great as my vintage amp does not have a LFE out. Only thing I wished the sub had was a pair of high level outs, which would have allowed it to feed my speakers vs. running two sets of speaker wires from the amp. This is my first down firing sub and am surprised at how good it sounds aimed into a carpeted floor.

    Nice Little Sub

Nice tight bass for smaller sub, and pairs beautifully with the Martin Logan Motion 4 speakers in a medium sized living room setting. I bought this with the understanding that I could exchange it for the 10" woofer version, but this gives me all the bass I could want. I listen to a range of music: rock, jazz, acoustic bluegrass, and classical, and I do like to feel the bottom end of bass in the mix. I doubt it would be adequate for hip hop or other styles with astronomical levels of bottom end.

This is a great subwoofer base on price-quality. I paired it with my Motion 35XTi and couldn’t be happier. It ads a cleaner and deeper bass. Richer sound that fulfills my leaving room.

Well priced subwoofer that compliments my Martin Logan speakers and fills in the base tones I was missing. Easy to set up and works well in my entertainment room. Received a free two year warranty with my Totaltech membership and received free installation by a technician so that we set it up to optimize the sound in the room

    Best 8in Sub

    Posted .

Very suprised. There are many 8in subs for even less money that have more power. But they wont sound like this. Many small subs have uneven frequency response. That makes them sound boony or one note. That can be ok for movies sometimes but not at all for music. There must be some unique filtering on the crossover or some dsp on this sub. It blends very well even with speakers that far excede it price range. Also for an 8in to go down to 30hz is impressive. It also slams much more than its power ratting would suggest. This is a great sub for a desk setup or 2 chanel system. It would also work well in a small surround sound setup. I got it for sale at 40% off and at that price it is a no brainer. nothing comes close. At full price its still impresive for a sub of its size. If you can deal with a bigger sub then there might be a few other compelling options. Overall its my favorite small Sub.

I needed something that was a little smaller so the sub could fit within my stereo cabinet. My old Polk Audio sub was just too big. This sub fits great into my cabinet. The sub also has a lot of punch for a 8" speaker also. The downward firing speaker does a great job of spreading the sound around the room instead of one direction. The box is made very well and appears to be high quality. I do wish the speaker had some protection from damage since it is out in the open on the bottom. Other than that, the sub is great.

I was so happy when this came! I am a young music producer and needed a subwoofer, this has a great about of the frequency range and I was pleased to hear how low it could go. My music and other listening experiences have been made more accurate and enjoyable since having this, and the delivery from BestBuy was easy and quick. As someone who is always bouncing around and going to school or work, it was nice to have it delivered so promptly.

    FAT and Musical Bass

I bought this to supplement a pair of Klipsch The Fives speakers in my office. As expected, this little ML Dynamo kicks butt, literally. So many subs out there are hollow, boomy loudboxes that do nothing to enhance music. The Dynamo is so rich and full and blends perfectly with The Fives. The Fives have sub controls built-in to the remote and speaker panel which makes this an even bigger win. I set it up using an app to inject pink noise to the system which I then measured using an audio spectrum analyzer to find the right crossover point (adjusted from the Dynamo's knob) and amplitude (adjusted from the Klipsch remote). The blend is incredibly good. Even running 15-20kHz sweeps, it all stays well within my tolerance for weak spots. Great little sub, paired with great bookshelf speakers!

Frustrating crossover & distortion at moderate vol

I generally liked the deep bass this small driver could get, but there were just too many problems with this thing to keep. The crossover has almost all of the adjustment within a 3mm range at the very end of the knob making for an incredibly frustrating time. When the cone would approach its movement limit, it would scrape on something inside, even at below 50% volume. Not a bad sub for filling out the bottom end of a floor standing speaker, but the hole the low quality crossover leaves makes this thing a very poor pairing with bookshelf speakers. I returned it and puchrased the SVS SB-2000 Pro and I am much happier with that. Save your money and buy better than this.

Bought this to replace a failed Boston Acoustics sub. More than loud enough for my small townhouse with solid, clear bass response on everything I've played thru it so far. While it was the least expensive MartinLogan sub BB had when I visited, it's easily equal to or better than other subs I auditioned and I'll happily buy another one next time I need a new sub.

Clean, tight bass. I’m an audiophile and have extensive experience with audio hardware. Only thing I would bear in mind if you’re considering buying this subwoofer is that it’s not designed to shake your whole house with rap music. It’s about precision music, good with rock, jazz, country, etc. If you listen to hip hop/rap, get the larger Dynamo subwoofer, 10 or 12 inch. Otherwise no complaints, totally satisfied

I have always been kind of anti subwoofer for two channel stereo, but I was missing bass at lower volume levels with my Rotel integrated and Klipsch towers. This sub made a believer out of me. When the levels are adjusted properly, the sub blends with the towers and it all just sounds like one system. The sub both brings out the bass and at the same time seems to bring out details in the mids and highs. Don't let the smaller amp and 8" driver fool you, this sub can rock with the best of them. I measured 106db on my Iphone app at sitting in my listening chair, with no noticable distortion. Plenty loud, believe me! You may need a larger sub for a really large room, I don't know. My listening room is 15x18 ft. with an 8ft. ceiling, and is more than enough.

i had originally bought the 500....i loved the sound...it had issues...either a component problem or engineering flaw...returned it and got the new 400D....its perfect...it keeps getting better the longer i have it...deep bass, not muddy or distorted...its getting to the point where its overpowering these old pioneer speakers ive had for quite some time...perhaps there is a better sub for the price but not for me...actually i think my main room is probably too small for it...but i'm completely satisfied with the 400D... get it while you can
