Dr. Strange is Strange in a Magical Way

Marvel keeps cranking movies out and I tend to get skeptical. I now realize there are two types of their superhero movies. The straight kick butt Iron Man/Spiderman/X-Men, etc. Then there are the category of different types of heroes. Dr. Strange falls into this category with Deadpool/Ant Man/Guardians. More of the individual story with something special. The origin story of the Doctor was interesting and it took off from there with magic - the most unusual power. The filming style and effects were mezmerizing and the ending will just lead to, well, you know.....

Okay, was it the same as the original comic book, of course NOT, did it have the same feel as the original story book, NO. Most important was it entertaining and suspenseful: Yes, it was entertaining, it did start off slow and it covered the original after a fashion. The action was very slow, but it went fairly well, not great since it covered several issues of the original comic book and it brought Doctor Strange through what should have taken several months through about 45 minutes of film. It covered about a year or so of comics, and it is a movie so they had to bring it to a suitable place to have a decent ending. Suspenseful, not so much it had a few moments and it ended okay. If you are an older comic book fan you'll have to give some artistic literary license to the producer, and it had pretty good special effects. I would recommend buying Doctor Strange if you are a fan, if not just rent it and wait until the next installment comes out.

Absolutely amazing 3D CG integration with live action. Portrayal of alternate dimensions was immersive. TV previews in 2D lured me to buy the 3D Bluray, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Will enjoy many more viewings.

Saw this movie in the theater and loved it, bought it on Blu-Ray, and loved it again. There are movies that look better on the movie screen than they do at home - the lenses fuzz up the image a little, and make the effects more believable. This is not one of those movies. If you have a decent TV, you won't be disappointed with the profusion of eye candy you'll experience. Plus, the concept and execution are both on point, so there's an actual movie attached to these wild, psychedelic images. This is one that I'd buy all over again when everything goes to 4K.

Ok. It’s like that movie directed by that guy. The guy that directed that Batman movie. You know. The movie that ended and you looked at your date and you were like “What the heck was that”. That movie that you were still thinking about a few days later, but not in a good Napoleon Dynamite kinda way, but in a confused grandma needs help setting the time on the Microwave kinda way. You know. That movie directed by that guy who also directed Memento. You know? Inception. Maybe this is a good movie. I think I need to watch it again.

A well made, fun, typical Marvel origin story

Dr. Strange is Marvels latest entry in their ever expanding cinematic universe. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character Dr. Strange who starts as an unlikable, arrogant, self involved business man nas slowly learns to grow and evolve over the course of the film. . His performance is good as is the rest of the cast that includes Tilda Swinton , Rachel McAdams and many others. The plot is your typical Marvel Origin story that takes you through the main characters journey as hes taken under Tilda Swintons wing and trained in sorcery. While doing so he has to deal with fighting against the films bad guy who suffers from the typical marvel Villain syndrome. the film is well paced and features exciting and entertaining action scenes, as well as great visual effects. Not Marvels best entry but far from their worst. If you are a fan of marvel, superhero films, or any one involved you should enjoy this film. Dr. Strange gets a B

As an avid comic book fan and a reader from when he was first in Strange Tales comics it was always an exciting read. The movie right from the start kept right on target with an origin that followed the book amazingly close. While the story line didn't follow exactly like the book the spirit was definitely there. Very good characters keeping close enough to the books with tremendous special effects that was enjoyable too. Little bits of humor that were not overboard and kept the film a little lighter. I felt it was great for the fans as well as the novice.

This is one of the best 3D movies made. Alice in Wonderland is still my favorite 3D movie, but Dr Strange is a close 2nd. Overall movie was quite entertaining, but it was the 3d that really made this movie special. Unlike most 3d movies, the "out of the screen" effects were good. Not overly busy, so no headache or eye strain. FYI-we have "active" 3d tv, not passive(grey shutter lenses vs red/green glasses), so that might make a difference. Active3d gives you double the image quality. If you like the Marvel movies, you won't be disappointed with this one.

Excellent movie. One of the best of the Marvel movies so far. Dr. Strange is probably one of the most unlikely characters for the Marvel universe to have made a movie on. It's based on the magical world of Marvel, which they haven't really touched upon yet. This is an excellent introduction to Dormammu and the evil side of the magical side of the Marvel Universe. Cumberbatch owns the role of Dr. Strange and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordor was an excellent counterpoint to Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange. Really well written and acted, this is a great movie.

I have never seen such CG in all the Marvel movies. It was spectacular and the plot was very interesting and kept you riveted to the screen. Marvel was smart to wait until Benedict Cumberbach finished his current project to hire him to be Doctor Strange. I don't think anyone else could have portrayed him. Looks like him from the comics. It was the telling of how he became Doctor Strange and how he is going to fit into the Marvel universe. There are two more plots during and after credits which you have to see in setting up future events. Great movie!
