I had rated this on the lower end of the Marvel scale at first, but on second viewing I liked it better. He was a good pick for the role, and the supporting cast is good as well. First view of magic in the MCU, and done pretty well.

For me this origin story was better than the original Capt America and Thor. This movie is not as good as I hope the next one will be, but it gets better everytime I watch it. If you like martial arts and magic this is for you.

In the face of adversity, Stephen Strange uses his will and determination to become a hero. A favorite of mine

Doctor Strange is easily one of Marvel's best and light hearted creations of the Marvel Cinematic Universe next to the likes of Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. The story is about Dr. Stephen Strange (Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch) a rich and wealthy surgeon who uses his talents to heal, but when an accident renders his hands useless, he travels to Asia where he is taken in by the Ancient One (Oscar Winner Tilda Swinton) and learns to use powers a mindbending capability. His training will be put to the test when goes up against a rogue pupil (Mads Makkelsen) who wants to bring fourth the dark dimension and destroy everything on Earth. Strange also rekindles his love for Dr. Christine Palmer (Rachael McAdams) while being chosen as the new protector. While not exactly being one of the A-Listers of the Marvel Universe, Doctor Strange is an important character that does intertwine with the other MCU characters and will play a big part in the next two upcoming Marvel films, Thor: Ragnarok and The Avengers: Infinity War. The film is a visual feast of marvelous effects and great performances. Definitely one of the more fun entries of the Marvel Universe. Also, stay for the End Credits...there's always Easter Eggs that lead to other Marvel films.

I honestly didn't have really high hopes for this film initially. I used to read the occasional Dr Strange comic growing up but it's such a difficult character to translate to film. I remember the awful made for TV movie I saw as a kid but just barely. I know this would be better than that and Marvel always has high production values. I was completely blown away by how good this is. Even my girlfriend who had never even heard of the character before really enjoyed it. The movie is visually stunning and best of all a LOT of fun. Even those who have never seen a Marvel movie (is there anyone who hasn't?) Will not feel at all lost. This movie is a blast. For the comic fan there are a ton of little nods, the visuals of the dark dimension are straight out of the artwork from the books ( I can remember seeing a panel is the comics with all the hands reaching for Dr Strange). It doesn't take itself too seriously, Cumberbatch is PERFECT, he captures the characters arrogance dead on but still makes you like him. Don't skip this one just because it doesn't have any of The Avengers in it ( watch through the end credits for TWO teaser scenes). I can't wait to see more of Dr Strange in Infinity War and hopefully his own sequel.

This Steelbook is beautiful and just what I was waiting for to finally complete my Marvel movie collection.

Love the special effects in the movie. Benedict Cumberbatch brings charisma to this role that is perfect for the MCU.
