Best Movie Since Star Wars IV

I saw the Avengers 7 times in the theater. I would have gone more, but movie prices are expensive. I left the theater after seeing it the first time, grabbed some lunch, went back to see it again, picked up my wife, grabbed dinner and saw it with her for a third viewing in the first day. I highly recommend watching the five movies that lead up to The Avengers first and in order: Iron Man, Hulk (Edward Norton), Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America. The combination of the backstories from these five movies are what vault The Avengers from a good action flick to a GREAT story. You are cheating yourself if you go into The Avengers cold. My one concern going into the film was that Edward Norton was replaced as Dr. Bruce Banner (the Hulk). But Mark quickly won me over to his version of the character. Both did great jobs and I enjoy both films, but I no longer look at the change in actors as a negative point of the film. And the Hulk steals the show. Everyone was great...but the Hulk just dominates the scenes where he is raged-up...well...even when he's not. You also have to pay attention to all of the little side comments. Humor is found EVERYWHERE. There were lines that I didn't even hear until my 4th or more viewing of the show because the audience was clapping/laughing too loudly to hear the follow up. I can not recommend this film and the five preceeding films enough. I can't wait for Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Captain America 2 coming up...and I'm sure to be followed with The Avengers 2 at some point!

The product is great!! You get a 3D Blu Ray, a regular Blu Ray, a DVD, a digital copy, and the full digital soundtrack to the movie. And that's just the movie part. You also get a 7" x 9" photo of the Avengers, and a 208 page book that tells you everything you need to know about the Marvel characters. And the box itself is a light up 3D scene of the Avengers in battle. There is also a $30 dollar gift card to SideshowCollectibles.com/Avengers, but you will not find anything at that website for under $299, just FYI. Bottom Line is, this product is WELL worth the money!!

    Best Movie of the Year

I'm sure you've heard it before that the first half of the movie is pretty long and drawn out with very little action. But understandable since they had to tie 6 characters (8 if you count Nick Fury and Agent Colsen) into one movie. Not an easy feat but Joss Whedon handled it beautifully. Spectacular action, love seeing all the characters work together! The 3D Blu ray combo pack is the best value because it has all of the formats in one. Great movie...can't wait for Avengers 2!!!!

    MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!!!!

Hands down, The Avengers is the movie of the year! My expectations were high going into this & it has surpassed my expectations. I seen this movie in theaters 3x (mad I couldn't catch it in IMAX). I am a movie addict and I can tell you this is the first movie I ever pre-ordered to pick up on the day of it's release. I am looking forward to picking this up and not only having it at home, but on the go on my iPad. If it were up to me, this movie would receive the Oscar for movie of the year.

    Pure Awesomeness

I saw this in the theater in 3d and was not overly impressed so I just got the regular blu ray version. I can convert it to 3d on my own and get close to what I saw in the theater. But the 3d isn't the topic here. This movie was great in the aspect that it combined multiple super heroes in which all had their own movies. The plot was great. I can't believe how well they were able to cram 4 lead characters in. I am sure there will be another 2 or 3 Avenger movies. If not, someone had a brainfart, lol. It landed in the top 50 grossing movies of all time so there is no excuse not to. Without ruining the plot for some, this is a must have movie for action hero lovers. Whether your bias towards Marvel or DC, that mindset should be tossed out the door. There is some good humor in it and its action packed thru the whole movie. This movie is also longer than 2 hrs. It's rare to get a good movie in length nowadays. It will keep you glued to your seat that's for sure. You will anticipate the sequel. I guarantee it. If you have a blu ray player, definitely get this version. Actually I recommend any movie made in this time and age, to get Blu Ray especially if you have a Hi Def TV. If you don't have a Hi Def TV, eventually one day you will and you.

You’re larger than life. You have abilities beyond that of most human beings on the planet. Then the world finds itself in peril and to save it, you’ll need to join a group of people just as unique as you if not more so. What do you do? S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson) is overseeing a top secret project designed to study an energy source from another world known as the tesseract. The experiment soon goes awry and the tesseract appears to explode. In actuality, it has opened a portal allowing the malevolent being known as Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) to emerge. It’s almost immediately clear that S.H.I.E.L.D. is outmatched and what’s worse, the supervisor of the tesseract project Dr. Erik Selvig (played by Stellan Skarsgard) and experienced covert agent nicknamed Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner) became mindless drones under Loki’s (Hiddleston’s) command. Once the facility is destroyed and the invaders have moved on, Fury (Jackson) calls Agent Natasha Romanoff also known as the Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) to recruit one member of The Avengers. The Avengers Initiative was abandoned some time before the events depicted in this film, but is reactivated for the sake of mankind and for lack of a better alternative. Romanoff (Johansson) is next seen in India resorting to subterfuge to gain audience with Bruce Banner (played by Mark Ruffalo). Banner (Ruffalo) has gone into hiding to escape opportunists in the American government, to remain calm, to spare the world and those around him any damage he might inflict as The Hulk. Next to be approached by S.H.I.E.L.D. is Iron Man, Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr. in the character’s third major film). The last member left to recruit is Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans), more commonly known as Captain America. When they’re finally brought together, Banner and Stark are tasked with tracing the energy source and, in so doing, locating the enemy. When that’s accomplished, they meet yet another traveler from worlds beyond, Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth), Loki’s brother. Now, I was not really a fan of Captain America: The First Avenger, nor was I altogether pleased after seeing Thor. As for Bruce Banner’s larger half, perhaps it’s impossible to make a film about the incredible hulk that I wouldn’t like. First there was the Ang Lee/ Eric Bana film, then the Edward Norton film, both of which I enjoyed. Still, I did like Ruffalo. Also, Thor, Captain America, and the Black Widow made individual contributions to enrich the story. Hiddleston may not be as physically imposing as Chris Hemsworth, but as an egomaniacal extraterrestrial, he is truly terrifying. I can’t comment on whether the 3-D effects added anything, as I saw it in 2-D, but regardless, The Avengers was incredible. The one thing I might say was lacking was Iron Man’s best friend James Rhodes wearing an armored flight suit of his own and going by the name War Machine. We caught a glimpse of that suit in action in Iron Man 2 but it was nowhere to be seen here and I thought the film was worse off for it. Still, very exciting, highly entertaining, and one great ride. See it.

The best live-action superhero movie made yet

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

No entertainment form on this planet is perfect...but this movie is close and far exceeded my expectations. I found it to be the best action/fantasy movie since the Lord of the Rings trilogy and easily the best live-action superhero movie made so far. I've always favored Marvel comics over DC and am glad this movie (and all the ones leading up to it) have set the bar. I think Marvel is finally in the front...at least, for now...and hope the streak continues. I liked just about everything presented in this film. Granted, there are some things that detracted from the overall production, but they're few and really aren't worth itemizing in this review. As I mentioned before, nothing's perfect. I just hope that the studio will release an extended/Director's Cut version that includes the deleted scenes--I found those DVD extras relevant to the story and not detrimental to the movie's flow. Having all the parts will, I think, make for a better viewing experience on DVD. I have spoken; thanks for reading. Hulk Rules!

    Great movie

Okay, let me just get the negative out of the way first: This isn't a standalone movie. Yes, you can watch it without watching the others, and overall get the movie. But if you watch Ironman, Incredible Hulk, Thor, Ironman2, and Captain America (I think that I got the order right), then watch this, you get the bigger picture. The other part is that I don't really care for the choice of actor for Bruce Banner. Now, with that out of the way, this is a great movie. Robert Downey Jr. is Anthony Stark, Chris Evans is a rather good Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth (My wife and daughter have a bit of a lust for him) is a really good Thor, Samuel Jackson is Nick Fury, and Tom Hiddleston is Loki. As well as many of the other actors really took to their parts. The effects are what one has come to expect from Hollywood blockbuster movies. It isn't a thinking movie, you pretty much know what is going to happen, but it is good entertainment. And can I just say that Joss Whedon really does know his stuff when it comes to writing and directing?

S.H.I.E.L.D. has located the mysterious Tesseract device and the Army's super soldier Captain America. The Tesseract is actually a gateway to an entirely new world called Asguard. A mysterious being known as Loki arrives on earth and immediately assumes that he can rule all human beings. But that irks S.H.I.E.L.D. directory Nick Fury the wrong way. As Loki escapes with the Tesseract, Nick Fury believes this is an act of war against Earth. His only hope is to assemble an actual team of super heroes. Dr. Bruce Banner, who turns into an enormous green rage monster known as the Hulk. Tony Stark and his venerable Iron Man armor. Captain America, the Stark Enterprises created super soldier. Thor, the god of thunder, protector of Earth and his home planet of Asguard, and Loki's brother. Master assassins Hawkeye and Natasha Romanoff. Together they will become a team to take on an attack that will call them to become the greatest of all time.

    BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER!!!

Being a MARVEL fan, when I first saw the Avengers, I was nearly in tears. Years and years of clues and origin films led up to this masterpiece and it was perfection! A mind blowing experience! The actor's performances were awesome, especially Tom Hiddleston's Loki. You can tell the actor has fun portraying that character and Loki doesn't disappoint as the film's villain! Even Mark Ruffalo, who replaced Edward Norton as the Incredible Hulk, did a great job portraying Dr. Banner's intelligence and nervous ticks when it came to struggling to make sure nothing could possibly make him angry. Of course, Robert Downey Jr's performance as Tony Stark never changes. Still spot on, as always. Seeing the team finally come together is a nerd's dream. Joss Whedon did an AMAZING job with the film and I can't wait to see Age of Ultron next year!

I totally agree this is a great movie soo much potential here great cast and joss whedon did himself proud. i could list all the great things about this movie but that would take too long i say it's 98% perfect. in my opinion they shouldn't have changed the hulk soo much from the last film and i'm refering to his size it looks like they made him at least a foot shorter and 300lbs lighter.. i'm not saying he wasn't great in the movie because he was. but i think he should look alittle more like the hulk from the last hulk film.at least from the neck down and they shouldn't make him age at all it's ok to make banner age but not the hulk the hulk isn't really human and he has the ability to heal super fast so of course he wouldn't age along with banner... still he did a great job in the movie as did everyone else.my complaint is a very minor one.

Great transfer but cropped to fit for TV.

This was a surprise because I didn't see anywhere on the packaging to warn you that it's been cropped to fit your TV instead of the usual widescreen cinema format. That said, I stopped caring after the first few minutes. The wider range of colors and obvious improvement in image detail made buying the 4k version worth it. I only wish that I could say the same about the so-called 4k version of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON (which had an absolutely HORRIBLE 4k transfer).

    Awesome movie

Personally i thought this movie was ok when i saw it in the theaters. When it came out blu ray i had to get it either way. The second time i watched it I couldn't get enough of the movie. I wont lie though for people who arent complete Marvel fans and were expecting a lot. There isnt much action throughout the movie until the last 30 minutes. The beginning is very slow but its expected considering its the first out of many Avengers movies. For those who are actual Avengers fans they didnt actually create the original Avengers members first off Hawk Eye and Widow was not in the starting group. They came in shortly after being in Shield. There were a few quarrels those 2 had with avengers. There were at least 3 other members that joined before them. Ant man was one of the starting members with Iron Man. Wasp who was always with Ant Man. Then Black panther. Another thing about this movie i didnt like was the Hulks actual face when he turned into the hulk it felt so fake and completely cheesy. Either way everyone is entitled to there own opinion. Still this movie was probably the best movie that has came out this year except for the newest Batman movie. I would advise anyone who hasnt seen it to go for it.
