    Duke's smart mouth

Saw it when it first came out (yeah, I'm that old) and it's funnier now that I realize the Korean War was a backdrop for my generation's unease w/Vietnam. I also didn't know that the movie preceded the book!! Very rarely will a movie-preceded book survive a first printing. "Fair's fair, Kuhnul (sic-it's Duke's southern accent), if I nail Hot Lips and slug Frank, can I go home too?" A wonderful satire on young mens' angst.

Before Alan Alda and Wayne Rogers gained notoriety as Hawkeye and Trapper John, there was Donald Sutherland and Elliot Gould. Then there was Robert Duvall as Major Frank Burns and Sally Kellerman as Hotlips, what's not to love? If you're a fan of the long running TV show, do yourself a favor and watch the movie that started it all. It's a little different than the TV show, but the dark comedy satire is still there in abundance and the Special Features are outstanding. Now get yourself back to the 4077th stat!

Wanted the movie that began everything

I have to admit that I have never watched the entire movie, but I have always LOVED the TV series, so I wanted the movie that it was based on. That's the reason it's only getting four stars. I know that only Gary Burghoff carried over to the series, and that it will not be "just like" the series, but that's to be expected. Of course it also came out not long after I was born, as well. I'm dating myself there. lol I like that they added some extras such as the AMC Backstory and the 30th Anniversary Cast & Crew Reunion, which I've seen and was very interesting. It's a Blu-ray, which I didn't realize when I purchased it, and all I have is an ~15 year old DVD player, so now it's time to upgrade to a Blu-ray player. A very good excuse to do so.

The original that begat a classic tv series

This is how it how started with a mobile hospital unit set during the Korean War. Donald Sutherland and Elliot Gould play the lead surgeons and Gary Burghoff as the astute corporal Radar (who was the only actor to continue the role in the tv series). Mixing war time action with the shenanigans carried on by the medical staff to break the tension and bring needed relief from some of the travails in the hospital, MASH will go on as a classic.

MASH is a movie that most moviegoers will appreciate because of its timeless appeal. It's an original story that carried over to an enormously popular television series. By now, most will know that the film covers the trials and tribulations of the doctors and nurses in a mobile surgical hospital operating in the Korean War. The cast is great and the storyline entertaining enough to hold the attention of a new generation of viewers of this 70s classic. A short nudity scene and a little surgical blood (plus the first time that the F-bomb was dropping in a feature film) are the only issues that make this a film for adults and not the whole family.

M*A*S*H - the classic dark comedy movie - set in Korea but almost identifiable as Viet Nam. The movie was called the most true-to-life Army movie ever by an Army surgeon - supposedly, his Evac hospital in 'Nam never returned their copy, they liked it so much. Not for the very squeamish, but a movie to add to any complete collection.

I'd recommend this for the extra's alone. Altman did a lot of crazy things for the time when making this movie. Almost everything was improvised, his camera placements we're unusually effective, and the cast almost lobbied to get him fired. There's tons of other stories on the extras, also you get to watch the movie.

How can you describe this movie? It's not so much one story as it is a series of skits. It is a sort of black comedy, in that while it presents subject matter in a funny way, serious issues are being presented below the surface. While some of the humor may seem a little dated today, the movie is genuinely funny, and the actors are superb. Is this movie for everyone? Perhaps not. However, I think most will like it. Certainly, if you enjoyed the M*A*S*H television series, you need this movie in your collection!

M*A*S*H: Classic movie from director Robert Altman. It's rare to see a movie of this type in the theaters anymore. It's quirky, and gritty and a little raw and it feels real. And by today's standards, a little artsy. This one movie I like to have current with the ever changing technological landscape. But it may not be for everyone

Revisiting Robert Altman's film directorial debut remains one of the most entertaining vintage motion pictures in my library. There isn't enough to be said about this masterpiece of comedy, and at the same time, a film that makes a very serious comment about the horrors of war, Korea included.

I may be significantly younger than her, but sally Kellerman even today(also in "back to school" and more recently "workaholics") is my dream woman. Donald Sutherland and Eliiot Gould really are brilliant in this film and provide the classic vehicle for great dialogue and comedy. John Schuck in his role as the dentist is prefect.

I love going back and watching this Movie again. Especially after watching the TV Series growing up. Although I got used to the Actors on the TV Show, I also love the Actors in the Movie (some are the same, some are different). It's definitely a timeless Classic with a perfect mix of Comedy and Drama.

M*A*S*H is a great comedy movie. This was made before the television series and as such features a different cast of characters. This movie does a great job of adapting the novel to the big picture. Sit back and enjoy the high-jinks and pranks of this classic army comedy.

The movie that inspired the classic tv show. M*A*S*H shows how life in the Korean War, working in a medical unit, could be hilarious under all its hardships. With all the classic characters we've grown to love, directed by Robert Altman, his movie is one of the best.

a timeless classic - and I had just about forgotten most of the parts of the movie - I really enjoyed seeing it again... some of the best parts are almost below the surface - did he steal that jeep Radar? no sir - it's right there... little stuff like that ... fun.

The case is the first thing that grabbed me, no fancy artwork, just a nice classic look. The special features are good and the video and audio transfer is very good as well. I had been looking for a good copy of this movie for a while and finally success.

Many of Robert Altman's films are available as lush Criterion Collection Blurays, which is absolutely marvelous, but not cheap to keep up with. It's nice to see this disc at a great price with all the extras from the old 2disc DVD edition.

I looked a few different locations to find a movie from the 70’s. A series was made from the movie. The re runs from the series are great. So finding the old movie ‘M*A*S*H, was a great find at Best Buy.
