Slept through Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound affects are so loud in this movie, you cannot hear what the characters are saying, and their accents do not help either. I fell asleep within an hour of starting this movie.

Hard
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The bluray quality was great, but the movie is a bit hard to follow in the beginning without giving myself a history lesson first.

Decent Movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this movie on blu ray after researching to find some the best movies on blu ray to have if you have a home theater. This movie was suggested by several sites as haveing good surrond sound so I decided to purchase it. The movie surrounds a captain who may be a little obsessed with capturing or destroying an enemy ship that is by far a better vessel than his own. I have to say that the movie is a good movie but can go through extended droughts without having action scenes. The video is good but not the best. The audio really surprised me. The movie opens with relatively no action scene, then all of a sudden erupts with sound. The movie becomes alive with sound that is output during action scenes. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

Best Movie Ever!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie is awesome! It has beautiful sailboats with historic dramatization of real life on those boats. It's a story of duty and friendship; and having to make the tough decisions of life and death. There is no nudity or innapropriate content. The acting is superb and the plot really draws you in. This movie is violent as it is about a Navy vessell which is hunting a French ship during a war. There are battles with blood, guts, (brains) and death. I would recommend this movie to anyone interrested in history, especially naval history.

Russel Crowe in "Master and Commander'
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The acting and the cinematography are very good, however the PLOT itself leaves a little bit to be desired. There is a coherent story, and some awfully sad scenes, but nothing that a young teenager couldn't handle. I would not suggest this for very young children due to the violence of some of the scenes. Russell Crowe is an outstanding actor, but this story line just doesn't quite bring out his full potential in my estimation. I thoroughly enjoyed the old ships with sails and the action they brought forth on the screen with "manning the sails and high seas". Really great photograhy here.

Great film with amazing audio
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first time I saw this movie I thought it was OK, but a little boring. Now, about 10 years later, I decided to give it another chance. This time, I thought it was great! Sure, it has a generally slower pace, but the story is very good and very well told, plus the soundtrack is amazing! Your speaker system will get a good work out whenever action occurs. Even when there's no action, the surround speakers are always in use with a variety of effects to put you in the scene. Overall, it's definitely worth it to check out this movie on Blu-ray, especially considering the low price.

Very good film with few flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a fan of Russell’s. That is why I bought this when it was first released. The film is very good. SHOULD have won more Oscars & Russell was cheated out of a Best Actor nomination. It was a shame the film did not do better at the box office. Few flaws in the film. I do NOT appreciate “scenes you see” in every movie of a certain time. We had to do sailors getting ill when the seas were rough from a storm. No water, stuff like that. Too bad we had to have 2 DVD versions of the film. This one has a few good extras on it.

Great movie for home theater!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have a home theater, do yourself a favor and buy this movie. You will be amazed. This movie is a great example of the sound quality making a movie great! The movie has a great plot which its loosely rooted in historical events. The movie brings alive the way that wars were fought back in the 1800's. It has a good storyline that will keep you entertained from start to finish. Good acting and great visual and sound effects. The sound effects will make you think that you are inside a boat!

Battles at SEA
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Life on the open sea is rough; especially when your arch enemy is the French. Who knew that strategy’s at sea was so complex. They do a very good job showing how different types of weather come into play. Smog, rain storms, and wind affect life at sea. The focus is pointed towards the chain-of-command. Without order there’s chaos. Of course the men and boys who come from wealthy families are in control of the poor crew hands. You will be glad you live now and not back then.

Awesome movie. Awesome Sound!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want to showcase your home theater system to its maximum potential, then this movie is a must have. The sounds are frighteningly good. From the smashing waves, to the howling winds, and the action sequences. My home theater system was rocking! The surrond sound was incredible! The HD picture quality looked very nice on my Samsung plasma 58in tv. The main stand out is the incredible sound! WOW!

Great Nautical Movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie is the best historical naval movie I have seen in a long time. The depictions of life aboard a warship in that era seemed very realistic. The battle scenes were well done. The movie does get a bit slow at times, in the doldrums as they say with no wind. All in all a very good take.

Exciting
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love war movies and this one is one of the best. It can get boring in some places and some scenes are too dark and are hard to see. Russel Crowe does an excellent job protraying the captain of an English ship in a cat and mouse chase with a yankee built French ship. Great movie!

Fun
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've read all the books - except the final one, I can't bring myself to finish it! - and loved this movie. Well acted, very well shot. I won't pick nits about the weird mucking with the original story line(s), but I think it got the flavor of the books down quite well.

Good seafaring movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie shows the hardships of a seafaring life without glamorizing it like Pirates does. Russell Crowe does an excellent job, and the acting is overall excellent. It is, however, a bit gory and violent for kids.
