    What???

I just had to comment because all these people had negative comments. I shop by reviews alot so I figured I would share. I read all of them mostly and also read reviews on the verba/whatever you call it. Still I decided to give memorex a shot becasue I have disk that are over 15 years old that still work. I got home and burned my first disc at 6x speed because I saw somewhere in the comments that speed might of lead to a disk failure and to much of my happiness it burnt without any problems. The problem with some of you people having bad burns could be that 1. You are multitaking while the disk is burning. 2. Your firmware is not upgraded on your dvd burner 3. You need to restart your computer. 4. Your burner is some older one that is not working wit these disks or you don't have a dual layer recorder all together And finally 5. You are burning at too high of a speed, I am going to try burning at 8x speed and let you know if I have any problems. For the restart one. I said that becasue sometimes a program in the background that you may have closed might be interupting your burning software program. I have had bad burns before on the 4.7 gb disks and then restarted and it burned fine after that.

I see that lots of people are having issues with these discs. I have had maybe 3 failures out of 150 discs I've used. I was using these discs before the label change, and am still using them after the so called "update". Most of the failures I've had are user error or bad data. I am using a DVD burner that's less than a year old, and that may be why I see a little less failure rate than what other people are saying. I would recommend these discs to anyone with a newer burner. Even if you have a failure of one or two, you still come out ahead for the price.

    KNOW WHAT YOU'RE BUYING

It should be said first, THESE WILL NOT WORK UNLESS YOU HAVE A DOUBLE-LAYER DVD BURNER. All of these reviews citing the product as non-functional or defective are sadly founded on ignorance. It takes a special type of DVD-Burner to be able to burn this 8.5 GB disks, most DVD-Burners only burn DVD+/-R, RAM, and CDs, so your burner would have to say it supports DVD+/- R DL as well to burn these properly. Please don't let the bad reviews scare you if you're considering buying this product; those giving bad reviews just didn't know what they were buying. That being said, with my DVD-DL burner, they work perfectly. Only bought them at Best Buy because they were on sale though, as I would normally buy through an online retailer =).

I have burned 15 DVD's so far and I have not encountered any problems what so ever. I don't know what software people are using that creates problems, but these discs are not laden with issues. They are a decent brand with a good history for reliability. Compared to Verbatim, which have a thicker feel to them, these feel a little thinner. However, I use protective cases for all my DVD's so this is not much of an issue. I burn a lot of DVD's and decided to try a dual layer disc. Saw these on sale for $20 and had to try them. I am very happy with my purchace and I will go back and buy more before the sale runs out. DVD burner I use : Lite-on 20x Burning software I use: Nero 7 Ultra Edition DVD Players I have: Panasonic and Philips *Also plays in my XBOX 360

    Nice DL Media

I use IMG Burn with three different burners: Mad Dog DL burner, Pioneer DL burner, and whatever DL burner is in my Gateway computer. All have had sucessful burns with this media. I only buy these when they are on sale = about $1 per disc. That is still expensive compared to about $0.23 per disc for single layer. But when you have a large project or movie that you don't want to break up over multiple discs this DL media is just right.

I have purchased these brand several times before. But lately the last few spindles I buy have given me some to almost all coasters. So when it comes to amount you spend per disc. It isn't all that great. If you're looking for something cheap. Try these. You either have a bad batch or might have a good one. Hit or miss. If you're looking for reliability go with Verbatims. I have used all kind of brands and find them the best.

I've Never Had a Problem with These

From reading the reviews here I've avoided Memorex like the plague and have always purchased the Verbatim Dual Layer disks. One day I went to Best Buy and the Memorex was all they had, so I figured I'd try them and if they caused errors I'd bring them back. Much to my delight, the Memorex disks have worked perfectly. I burned about 75 so far since that day without ANY problems. So I buy these now and save a little money over the Verbatim disks. All I can figure is either the Memorex quality control has gotten better, or the people who were complaining about them had equipment problems in their computers which they were blaming on these disks.

So far I've only had one coaster out of about 20 that I've used due to a write speed buffering error which I'm pretty sure was a bad disc since I was only writing at 2x. All of the others have turned out great. I'm using a new Macbook Pro with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard,8x superdrive(rated at 2-4x for dual layer), and Roxio toast 10 Titanium. I noticed that these are not actually memorex discs. One of my 25 packs is ritek and I think the other pack is IBMP(not sure on this one). They are also not a full 8.5 GB. Looking at the disc info, it shows only 7.96 GB as writable. Toast compressed the dvd to fit so that's not really a problem. However, I have somehow written over 8.3 GB with no problems even though this disc says 7.96. The other issue is that the write speed is not 8x as advertised. Disc info says that it's 2-4x and Toast 10 confirmed that with it's automatic setting. I prefer to write at 2x anyway for better quality even though it takes longer. Overall, I would recommend these discs providing all of your software is up to date, you have a drive that is capable of writing dual layer discs, and keep the write speed under 4. Also, you may want to check to see if your drive is compatible with a certain manufacturer

Like a lot of you, I wanted to be sure I was getting the best possible DVD for my money as they can be quite pricey. I found these on sale and, despite reading mostly unfavourable reviews about these DVDs, picked up a 25-pk when they were on sale. My computer is ten years old (Pentium III / 512MB memory) but I bought them anyway. I have not had any problems at all with them. I normally burn at around a 4x speed and I believe that other people tried to burn them at too high of a speed (8x, 16x, etc...) which caused errors. Keep the speed low and you should not have any problems.

I don't know what the other people are talking about that gave it bad reviews. I use these discs for my xbox and every disc burns perfect. I used two different computers and three different burners with the same results. If anything its user error.

    Negative reviews are user error?

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I'm starting to believe the negative reviews are nothing more than humor error with these DVDs. I bought these and went to burn movies I have on my hard drive. For reference I am using a Macbook Pro and iDVD. The first time I ran the program my computer gave me an error message saying the disc could not be burned. I was bummed because I thought I got bad discs just as everyone here has said. I soon realized however that there are two options you must change within program settings before burning to this disc. I changed both, ran the program and it zipped through and burned no issues. Play back quality is perfect.

    $1 coasters

Previous reviewers have commented that those who get coasters using this media must be using bad recording software. This is not the case. I have tried burning to these disks with Nero 6, Nero 8, and Nero 9 with all the latest software updates, as well as Roxio 6, and the latest version of Infra Recorder. I have tried with three different DVD DL burners, each after installing the latest firmware updates and drivers. These DVD drives were in three different computers, with Windows XP and Windows 7, after fairly recent installs and after installing the most recent OS updates. I burned at 2x speed, disabled any screen savers, and always keep clean running systems with no bloatware. Nearly all the disks failed either during the burning process or during verification. When I checked over the disks that failed verification, the files written to the second layer cannot be read. Only about 4 or 5 disks turned out all right, and even then only one of my DVD drives can read them easily. In the other drives, it can take up to 5 minutes before Windows even shows that a disk has been inserted. I have only tried one other brand for DVD+R DL media, and that was Maxell. That disk burned perfectly, but Maxell media is hard to find. The only thing I can think of that may be causing these memorex disks to fail is that all my DVD drives are older than 3 or 4 years old. If you have a brand-spanking-new DVD burner, these disks might yield more than a couple of successful burns. However, I believe that good media should have high compatibility and should be able to work on at least one out of three drives! It is worth it to buy memorex for less finicky media like CDs and single layer DVDs, but dual layer DVDs require the best manufacturing. Thankfully, Best Buy carries Verbatim DVD+R DL, so I will try those next.

    Stop using low-quality writers!

I've been using a Lite-On burner with these discs for quite some time and not one has given me a problem ever. If you have a mid-range computer while burning on one of these, there's not much you can do while it goes with the process. As recommended a few times on different sites, DO NOT MULTI-TASK WHILE A DISC IS BEING WRITTEN!. Stop browsing MySpace or checking mail while a disc is burning unless you have a fairly good computer. One more thing, STOP WRITING AT MAX SPEEDS AND YOU WON'T HAVE COASTER DISCS! 2.4x - 4x is recommended.

Definitely Not the Best Dual Layers for Xbox 360

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have a Xbox 360 with a flashed drive that allows me to play Xbox 360 backups. I download backups online and burn them to dual layers. Out of 3 packs of 25, maybe 4 or 5 have burned correctly. I thought it was my burner, but when ever I use the Verbatim or Sony Dual Layers the margin of error is far less and far more with the Memorex brand. Unfortunately the price of the Sony and Verbatim brands is far more, they never go on sale. The Memorex seems to always be on sale for about $23 to $24, but overall they are very low quality, especially for burning Xbox 360 backups.
