The bluetooth feature does not work well.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item was purchased for its Bluetooth capability so that we could play our CD collection over our sound bar. The Bluetooth cuts in and out making for a terrible listening experience.

Nice cheap "Throwback" CD/MP3 Player
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a bunch of old CDs that I’ve converted to MP3 format a long time back and the CDs themselves have been in a folder for years, untouched. Saw that Memorex was releasing a new CD player “aka 1990s style” and had to try it since it was cheap enough. Unboxing and Getting Ready to Use: First, it’s boxed in a simple box, nothing fancy, and inside there’s the CD player, a set of earbud style wired headphones, 2 AA batteries and a manual. The green rim around the device is nice to have so you can at least find the device in a dim/dark room easily as there is no lighting on the unit itself. The player is very light and easy to carry around. It’s nice they included a set of headphones and batteries so you could start using this right out of the box. I didn’t bother with the headphones as I have a lot of them around and this one was advertised as having Bluetooth, “most interested in that”. Opening up the shell is easy, just slide the lock lever over and the top pops right open. Inside there’s a cardboard piece you have to remove, it’s there to protect the laser unit and keep it in place during shipping. The AA batteries go in a compartment on the bottom of the unit, and they are easy to install. There is a jack for a power adapter, it’s not a micro USB like most devices have now so you’ll have to find a 4.5v one with the correct plug. Use: Now this is really a throwback to the 90s, I had multiple Walkman devices back then and used them on a daily basis so I’m very familiar with the style, and these are a complete throwback to that time. After inserting the CD you press the play button and the unit turns on. After a few seconds the display shows the track number and play time “that’s about all, no track info, just very basic info”. The buttons controlling the device on top by the display are small “usable”, but the lettering and symbols are very small, it would have helped if they made the print the same size as the button itself. They also aren’t backlit so you can’t see them in the dark “neither is the LCD display”, but at this price point I can see why they aren’t. Audio quality is really good, I’ve tried multiple wired headphones and they all sound good, and using the DBSS slider on the side “also hard to read” does help with the bass output a good bit so I’m leaving that on. The electronic skip protection works really well “there’s a small indicator on the top right of the LCD showing how full the buffer is”, and didn’t notice any skipping at all unless I really shook the device till the indicator emptied. Now for the Bluetooth test: Pairing was fairly simple, just press down on the Bluetooth button and hold till the indicator starts blinking in the LCD display. I paired it with my Audio-Technica M50s and the sound quality was really good. Distance wise I could walk a good 25’ before the audio started breaking up, “not bad for an inexpensive device”. The downside is that once you turn off the device it doesn’t remember the last device it’s paired to and you have to re-pair each time you want to use it. The M50s aren’t that easy to re-pair so that’s a bit of a pain. Next I paired it to a Sony Bluetooth wireless speaker, it paired just fine and sounded good. Also paired it to my new Marshall Uxbridge smart speaker and it worked fine. Audio quality is surprisingly good coming out of this speaker. Conclusion: If you have a bunch of CDs laying around and would like to be thrown back to the 90s then this is a really good device for that. It’s not that expensive and does what it’s supposed to do. I also took a bunch of MP3s and burned them on a CD, “actually had to relearn how to do that as I haven’t done that in years”, and the device found the MP3s just fine “even though they were placed in folders to keep them separate”. The added Bluetooth functionality is a big plus. The downside is that the buttons are hard to read “yep I’m getting old and need reading glasses, especially for this”. And this does work with an audio cable to plug into your vehicle. None of ours have a cd/dvd slot “they haven’t had those for a while”, and if want to play your old CDs and have an audio input jack on the dash, this does work “it just doesn’t come with the cable but is easy to find”.

Good CD Player
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The CD players works well for what it's supposed to do. It uses 2 AA batteries or it can be connected to a wall outlet (power adapter not included). I wish it came with a wireless charging feature. The ani-skip works very well. I was moving the CD player around, and even shook it a few times. The music never skipped a beat. The unit makes this annoying sound while playing. I makes a sound as though the CD is starting and stopping. It's not very loud, but it's noticeable and a bit annoying. It has a Bass Boot feature which definitely adds Bass, but the the Mids end up getting a bit muddy. The Bluetooth feature on it does not work all that well. That would be my biggest complaint. It advertises that you can connect it to your Bluetooth Speakers. I could not get it to connect to any of my Bluetooth speakers. I was able to finally get it to connect to one of them, but there was no sound. I was able to control the Play and Pause from my Bluetooth Speaker, but I could not hear anything. I later tried to pair them again, but it was no longer able to pair to that speaker again. I had better success connecting it to Bluetooth Headphones and my AirPods. I could control skipping tracks, but I was not able to Play/Pause from my AirPods. Since the Bluetooth feature isn't all that great, I wish it included a 3.5mm line cable for connecting to speakers as a backup. Overall it's a good speaker, but the Bluetooth connection could use some work.

It is what it is meant to be
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Is it live, or is it ... ? Who of us remembers that? Ah, nostalgia. And that’s what this Memorex Portable CD Player with Bluetooth evokes in me - a whole lotta nostalgia. Lovin’ the neon green with black color scheme. The included earbuds are “cheap-ish” though I do like the flat style of cord, instead of the usual round type. They do stay in place in my ears pretty good (and even come with replacement eartips). Now that wouldn’t be the case if you were to try and run or workout with these earbuds. But then, you’re not going to likely do that. This CD player wasn’t designed for those kinds of activities in mind, I don’t think. Sitting still, no problem. There’s no visible way to attach a strap to the CD player, though if you did happen to have an older belt case to carry it around in, I guess you could do that. Sound quality through the earbuds is below average, yet adequate, at least compared to what we’re used to now. Back in the day, I’m sure this would have sounded great. I remember my ‘portable music devices’ pre-mp3 type players, with fondness. Did I mention the nostalgia factor? ;) The simple button controls and LCD display are what they need to be, nothing special there. Where this little device excels is the Bluetooth feature. Took a few tries getting it successfully paired, but once it got connected I was soon enjoying some of my favorite music listening to it through one of my Bluetooth speakers. For its price point, it’s a good deal. If you still have some CDs laying around and just wanna sit and chill and listen to some tunes or audiobooks, then this nostalgic Memorex Portable CD Player with Bluetooth will be right up your alley.

Good CD Player
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, the CD player does well. Plays regular and custom MP3 CDs. If you still need or want a portable CD player this one is worth considering. It's small, barely bigger than a CD itself width wise, and lightweight. Pros: It comes with batteries and in-ear headphones. The headphones are decent, fit fine, and come with 3 sizes of ear fittings. Besides the 3.5mm head phone jack there is also a power port but, it's not USB, it's a jack, and you have to buy it separately, if wanted. The unit comes with 2 batteries and you can play it right away. Pop it open and press the disk in. The LED will give you the total disk time and tracks once read. It has ESP to protect against up to 40 or more seconds of interruptions. If ESP is enabled the LED will give the status. Buttons are on the face and easy to control. Volume has a good range. You can program the track order on the disk, play random tracks, repeat a song, or repeat the disk. Played MP3’s fine, not sure of the max MP3 disk limit. Cons: There is a bass boost, but it amplifies all of the sound and the bass some more. The Bluetooth can be finicky. I tried it with four different BT speakers. One connected immediately with no issues, the other three took some time. The manual states up to 30 seconds and sometimes it’s needed but, it worked across 3 different manufactures. The BT sound was just okay. I’ve heard all of the speakers sound better with other devices. No carry strap loops built in for a portable device. At this price point it gives a good option. Compact, plays CDs, and has BT built it. The sound won’t blow you away, but it gets the job done at a nice price.

Great Nostalgia Piece that Has Good Features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Many of us still have CD's around (at least those of use who are older). Why let them sit around going to waste. This CD player is a great option to listen to those CDs when streaming the music is too much of a bother. The features such as bluetooth to allow it to connect to wireless headphones is a nice modern touch but it does come with wired ear buds as well.
