    Unremarkable old tech device

I know what you are thinking. A CD player? In this day and age? Are you crazy? Well, you certainly have to be old school to go this route. Many folks younger than 40 probably regard this bulky gadget as something akin to a dial telephone, assuming they even know what that is. Oh, sure. Memorex has updated it a little -- adding Bluetooth so you can stream your dusty old CD colletion to your wireless speakers or headphones. (if you can get to work... more on that later.) But that's about the only thing that feels new about this portable Memorex CD Music player. Everything else screams the 1990s. Which is to say, this is a very bare bones affair. Cheap plastic construction. A small black and white LCD display on top that is pretty much impossible to see most of the time since it is not backlit. Tiny mechanical push buttons to control the mechanical battery-powered motor that drives the CD (two no-name AAs included) . Tiny text on the controls that make them impossible to see. All wrapped in a hideous black and dayglo green color scheme that only the Grinch could love. Nearly invisible slide controls on side open the device so you can insert and remove the CD and activate a bass boost system, which did not seem to do much of anything. It's fairly lightweight at least. No much bigger around than the a music CD itself. And about an inch thick. But compared to a modern memory-chip based music players, it is laughably huge. Not something you would ever take on a jog, or even out of the house. Just way too big. Those who want to try, however, will be happy to know there is a 100 second skip protection built in! (Recall this a mechanical device and prone to skipping when being bounced around, which this feature is supposed to remedy.) If you still have music CDs, it would be far easier to simply rip them into MP3s using your computer and dump the music onto a compact memory-chip based player (or cell phone) . Or easier yet, use a streaming service to listen to the same music. Why mess with this archaic mechanism? Well, how about better music quality? You might think so since this music is coming directly off the original CD, in all its uncompressed high bit rate glory. But I didn't find the sound any better than compressed MP3s or a streaming version of the same content. Even worse, the only "new" feature, the aforementioned Bluetooth, proved to be flaky at best. It was difficult to set up (look for the tiny ant-sized flashing icon to pair!) and would sometimes cut out mid-song for no reason. About the only good thing you can say about this it does not cost much and it works if all you want to do is listen to an old CD collection in the old school way. One song after another, or skipping the ones you do not like. Plug-in ear buds with lightweight ribbon wire are included for those with no bluetooth speakers or headphones. Or you can use your own corded headphones. This is truly a blast from past. And not a great one at that. For nostalgia buffs only.

Cheap wireless way to enjoy CDs.

The Memorex portable bluetooth disc player is a relatively cheap option to enjoy CDs with a modern twist of being able to use your wireless headphones/speakers. It's a no frills, back to basic player with controls that should be very familiar to anyone that has used a CD player before. Let's do quick run down on the gritty. FUNCTION It played a good mix of produced and burned CDs I put through it and the shock protection seems to work pretty well. There's quite a nostalgic feeling carrying a discman in my pocket, but it's a lot nicer knowing I can put it in a bag and go wireless with bluetooth headphones while I'm on the go. Unfortunately, the bluetooth doesn't have much range, so I would keep the disc player on me if I was out and about. If you've ever used a portable cd player before, all of the buttons and layout will seem 2nd nature. Nothing fancy here, except for the bluetooth button, which connects the same way most do by simply holding the button down until the symbol flashes. SOUND QUALITY If you're looking to enjoy a high fidelity compact disc experience, look elsewhere. The sound quality is uninspiring overall and the bass boost makes it muddy. What's odd is that I couldn't figure out if I liked the sound more with or without the bass boost, which only works if you're connecting to the wired headphone port, so you'll be spared this quandary if you're going bluetooth anyway. DESIGN Physically, it looks just like the classic portable CD players from the 90's. There's a neon green ring that goes around the rim of the player giving it a sporty look to contrast the matte and gloss black body. The plastic feels cheap as does the build quality, but it works and is reflective of the price point. OVERALL If you're looking for a relatively cheap, bluetooth portable CD player this Memorex player can do the job. It's a cute, retro throwback and while I'm not a fan of this player, I did have a good time blasting my old mix CDs through my bluetooth speakers.

Easy listening to old CDs with Bluetooth

I got this to use with Bluetooth with my Beolit20, so we can easily listen to our collection of old CDs. It has functioned as promised. It's a bit hard to read the small print on it. It used up the first batteries pretty quickly, so I will get a power adapter cord for it.

    Nostalgia with an upgrade

I saw this and automatically fell in love before even getting it in hand! First off just to be honest, its not going to amaze you, its a disc-man/cd player. Not many of the new generation even know what a compact disc is. So, that being said, given it's timestamp for the era it represents, I personally think this memorex cd player brings back the love of portable cd music. It is simple in design, looks good, and performs as it should. Comes with basic wired ear buds, the bass boost function, skip protection, play/pause, track skip..... and it has "BLUETOOTH"!!!! That is what sets it apart from its predecessors of time past. Everything about this portable cd player works as it was designed to and the bluetooth feature that upgrades it just makes it fantastic for me. The sound produced is great even for the wired ear buds. The fact that I can play all of my 80's and 90's collection of cd's on the go or by the pool with a small form factor device lets me relive the nostalgia of my teenhood. My daughter absolutely loves it after she had a tutorial of how to use it and what the buttons are for! LOL Two thumbs up for upgraded history.

A Disappointment In Almost Every Conceivable Way

This is a very inexpensive unit relative to the early portable CD players from the early days. But with all of the technical innovations since then, I would have expected even the cheapest CD players to have better performace. This unit will play directly through an AUX cable or by way of a Bluetooth connection. The AUX output, which should be the better audio sample here, is un-adjustably flat and lifeless. The Bluetooth sound is, as expected, even worse. The anti-skip mechanism is solid as it can be - no amount of physical attack on the unit seems to keep it from proper tracking (and that's a LONG way from what we experienced in the early days!). But for older CD technology, we should expect exemplary sound even with the cheapest models available. I thought this might be a practical AUX of Bluetooth sidekick for a road trip with some of my older CDs. But it wound up being an unmitigated disaster of a product. Note: comes with a super-flimsy set of earphones that reduce the sound quality even more.

Listen to my Reasons on why I was disappointed!

The bad thing about this is 2 things! 1. The battery doesn't last long! You play just only 2 whole Albums and I guarantee the battery gonna die before you put the 3rd album in! Now The Other 2nd horrible thing about this CD Player (NO WONDER IT WAS A CHEAP PRICE!) Is that when changing the battery (You hardly can even get the batteries out due to how tight it is!) The Circuit metal broke easily! I threw this CD player away after having it for 2 weeks! Now I'm looking at better reviews on the Amazon CD Player Portable, ARAFUNA! and Hey as they say ''If it costs more then it's worthy and better!'' (Electronic Wise at least)

The first one we were sent did not work and had to be returned but this second one seems to work well. My husband’s only complaint now is that it will not connect to the Bluetooth in his car so he has to use a 1/8 inch auxiliary cord.

Haven't been able to sync with my wireless Bose headphones. NO PROBLEM syncing to ear buds i purchased from retailer that cost 4.99. (Go figure) Older cd players i own have a switch so you can choose AM/FM radio or CD player. Haven' been able to locate similar switch on this model. Haven't been able to find it after reading directions. I need more time to figure out this product. On the positive the sound from a CD is very good.

No power adapter, eats batteries like candy

It works fine. (Connecting to the speaker can be a bit slower than I like.) However, there is no power adapter to plug this in. (Info sheet says not included, as if it exists, but Best Buy doesn't sell one.) And the 2 batteries are used up after perhaps 4 hours of music. Best Buy knew nothing when I called. The questions & answers page here suggest using a particular cable, which I just just now bought separately for about $14. I'll come back to say whether it works. The page for this product needs to say it is only battery operated, or else Best Buy needs to carry the power adapter. Ridiculous
