The next step in "trying out VR" headsets...

These goggles are a nice improvement from the first few pairs of "try it out" VR headsets I have tried. Merge has chosen to go with a nice flexible foam headpiece that seems a lot more durable than the drop-and-break plastic headsets that are on the low end of the price scale. These seem to be built to last a long time and suitable for the kids passing around without having to worry about breaking. The phone fits firmly into a foam-lined housing, as well, so not worried about dropping the headset and damaging the phone. The lens adjustment and interactive buttons are combined, but the two-button approach gives more input options for viewing and game play. Most interesting new feature is the "pop out" piece on the front of the headset that allows for use with AR apps by letting your phone's camera show images as part of the application. Good selection of apps to get started, although the web site takes some poking around to find what you want. Once you get past the free apps, there is a modest selection of apps to purchase. Most of the VR apps seem to work just fine, including G**gle Cardboard and the classic roller-coaster type apps that are free to download. Overall, if you are wanting to see what VR is about and want something that you and the kids can keep using for a while without having to worry about breaking the headset or damaging your phone, these would be a good choice.

Firstly, product is much better quality than what I expected rubber casing that dosen’t scratch my iPhone, and secondly there is a freedom of adjusting lenses independently, only one downside is apps are limited and mostly average resolution. But I tried to search few videos on Youtube and found sevral of them are great! Make sure to clean lenses occasionally for better viewing.

Just go to their website, stuff your phone in, and put it on your head and you're immersed into a 3d world... this is my first experience with VR goggles and I'm really impressed by how easy it is to use. The goggles even fit over my glasses. It's a bit easier to focus with my glasses on. The goggles are made of a tough foam material, and there's a slot to insert your phone. Once inserted, the phone is gripped really well. I have a google pixel with a lifeproof case, so mine is pretty thick and it takes a bit of forcing to get it into the goggles, I wish it were a bit more adjustable. Wouldn't want it to be too loose for a bare phone. Also some games seem to rotate the phone to the left, so the buttons are up, and some rotate to the right, buttons down, and I don't know how to force them all to go the same way. It is really comfortable and secure on my head.

My first experience with VR was when my brother in law brought over one of the cardboard based units that was going in the range of $10-$20. Still, it was fairly impressive as it was being passed around the table. Yes, the focus was not exactly precise, the phone was held in with a glorified rubber band, but it was fun watching everyone tilt left & right as they rode the roller coaster. Time has passed, and the tech has gotten a little better. Yeah, this is no Oculus Rift, but it's about a tenth of the price. Considering the cost, it's pretty good. The build quality is sturdy, as is the focus mechanism. It also helps that the phone isn't being held in by cardboard. And the comfort level is a league above those cheap units. Mind you, this is still a toy. The repeat play value is up to you. After you experience it a couple of times, the wow factor diminishes. But at a party or family gathering, it's sure to generate some oohs and ahhs - or keep the kids occupied for a bit. I might suggest if you have an old phone around after you've upgraded to the latest, load an sd card with some apps and use that. One thing that's a must, if you're getting this, be sure to add on the merge cube for another $15. For a small investment, it will double the entertainment value.

The Merge - VR Goggles have been my first experience with virtual reality and although the experience was interesting and fun at first, the novelty quickly wore off. The goggles themselves are very well made, durable, and do a great job of protecting my phone when it is in place. The only real complaint I have is with the virtual reality experience itself which is not to say that this is not a good product. It simply isn’t something I would regularly choose to do with my free time now that I have tried it out. My kids (ages 11, 9, and 6) enjoyed using this at first as well but even they grew tired of it after a short while. Part of this might be due to the limited number of apps we tried (we only tried a few of the free apps we were able to find). If there were many more free apps which were easy to find, it might make this product more worth its price. Overall, this is a high-quality product which might not be for everyone and might be forgotten about not long after using it a few times.

It fits most smartphones. Mine has a thin case and it still fits, I worry about wearing out the foam pocket and making it less secure. It's a good fit on my head, very soft and comfortable, and I love that it's glasses-friendly.

    VR GOGGLES ARE PRETTY COOL

I'm not a "gamer" nor a videophile but these goggles are pretty cool! I think I need a lot more time "playing" with them, but I enjoyed myself and the technology immensely! It's the first new device I've gotten that I didn't have to go through any setup; basically, insert the phone (after apps downloaded to it), and away you go! I have a new Samsung S8+ phone - and while the phone worked well with the goggles - it was a bit of a tight fit. Maybe after the goggles are used a bit more, then it will be easier to put the phone in/out. The downloaded apps (.. night sky .. video poker ... slot machine..bowling, .etc..) were easy to use with the goggles. Bowling was cool because you could turn around and see different parts of the room. I can't wait to try a travel video and "turn around". Great item ... lots of fun ... easy to take a quick break and enjoy without any setup!

I wanted an affordable headset to try out at home and just sort of dip my toe in the VR waters, but most of the ones I've tried at trade shows and friends' homes have been kind of uncomfortable. I was very pleased with the Merge VR goggles when I put them on! They are soft and pliable, and super easy to adjust the fit. I was impressed with the controls on the headset as well, allowing you to easily interact with VR experiences without the need for a separate controller. Just push the buttons on the top of the headset and you're playing! I'm using this with an iPhone 6s and it works great. Very happy customer!

This product is everything I thought it would be. Multi-size insert allows for various phone styles. My iPhone 5 worked just fine! The marshmallow foam material is ideal for someone that may be rough with their gadgets. The hardware stays in place and allows for a great virtual experience. Merge VR products and website are a great way to learn what's new in the virtual world. I highly recommend it!

Easy to use VR Goggles! Apps need to mature

These VR Goggles are simple to setup and easy to begin using. Extremely comfortable on your face and felt light even after inserting the phone. They seem to be made of durable materials that is soft on the face. The strap that hold the until on your head is also well constructed with adequate ability to adjust for all sizes. Once we downloaded a VR App from VRSTART.COM, we were able to begin testing the functionality. Graphics were decent however at times pixelated but this is not due to the hardware (goggles) nor the phone. The apps are definitely on the way to being a great experience and I think these goggles will be a great companion to them!

These are an average pair of VR goggles. They are very soft, with adjustable lenses for different eye widths. They say they are glasses friendly, but from my experience, they are NOT. I don't have big glasses, nor a big head, and I can hardly fit in there with my glasses on, without having the headset very loose. The lenses do make the image a bit grainy, but the VR image is pretty good. There are two buttons on top that work well with VR apps that support the button. You can take the front cover off to allow the phone camera to be exposed so you can use an AR app. These also work with the VR Cube, which is a different review. Overall, these work, but don't plan to use with glasses!

I've try out many VR headset. After reading a lot about it I decided to try out the Merge VR's. I have to say it's very cool! The first thing that stand out is how durable it is. It's made out of a soft foam and it stand up well to abuse from kids/travel. I downloaded a couple of the apps that recommended on the Merge site, loaded my iPhone 7, and supper impressed. For a mobile VR option, it is great especially for the price. Really comfortable, and doesn't fog up. I can wear my glasses comfortably, which is a definite bonus. The lens adjustments are easy to use and the buttons on top are a cool feature. I'm looking forward to trying more apps that make better use of the buttons though. Overall very intuitive and easy to use.

These goggles have a lot of options compared to others. Individual lens focusing, sturdy foam housing and slots for a power cord. Large phones such as the Moto G5 Plus don't work well with them, but others fit great! There are a lot of games/interactive programs available and when coupled with the Merge Cube it's a unique experience. Everyone in my family from my youngest to my oldest enjoy these, and the headgear fits just about everyone. Very difficult if not impossible to use if you have glasses.

These goggles aren't too bad. They are a little heavy so it is hard to wear them for extended amounts of time. They also start fogging up from my body heat. My phone got hot running the apps too. They were easy to adjust the lenses for my eyes. The box says they were for people with glasses but I found that they smashed them to my head. There's plenty of room for them but the side straps caused problems. There are buttons on the top to interact with the apps and they are connected to the lens adjusters, I found that playing games for a while the lenses would start moving out of place.

These VR goggles are pretty cool. Set up is easy, finding free content is a little more difficult. I imagine it will get easier as these become even more popular. I have the iPhone 6s Plus. My phone is a little big for the viewing window but I was still able to get it to work. You can adjust the vision by the lower and upper buttons on the goggles. Use the tester to see if your phone is compatible at https://vrtest.ninja/. Overall, this is a fun device and easy to use. Kids will love it. It gave me a bit of a headache, it feels like its just too close to my face, but I still did it and will continue to use it occasionally because it is still neat to look at and use.

Love the design, foam, and purple! I've tried quite a few mobile headsets and I like this one the best. Lenses are easy to adjust. I wear glasses and it's no problem. Durability is a plus when dealing with kids, pets, and even adults. It's easier to let someone try this headset out than others.

I've tried a lot of headsets, this one is my favorite, to date. Can't beat the comfort, Merge is the best for this, hands down. I care about hygiene, so I love how easy it is to clean (my pet peeve w/ pretty much every other headset) I have kids, so I love how rugged it is (kid proof!), won't fall apart like cheaper headsets will. And we have a few different phones, so it's nice that it supports a lot of different devices. Speaking of kids, I like their app guide -- good stuff, but everything is safe for kids. Good lenses and buttons. Would be nice if there were more augmented reality apps on the market, but not sure what a headset maker can do about that.

I got this on a lark just to see what all the fuss was about. It seemed like a clunky but cheap way to get a VR experience, but better than cardboard. The Goggles are well thought out from a design standpoint, and surprisingly comfortable. Taking them off and on every time you want to switch to another app is cumbersome, but right now, that's just how it is. The straight VR and 360 degree videos are cool to watch and experience(there are hundreds on YouTube), but add the Merge Cube, and you have a load of plain old FUN in your hands! I can't believe how "real" the experience is. As more devs work on the games and experiences around Cube, the graphics will become more and more sophisticated I'm sure. I am shocked that I can experience "real VR" so inexpensively. Kids and adults will have fun with the Goggles and especially the Merge Cube. Holding a city in your hand and looking for hidden objects in 3 dimensions is a little mid-blowing, coming from the generation who put so much hope into a plastic "VR Glove" back in the 80's and 90's, this is beyond awesome. I would recommend both pieces to anyone of any age--oh, and rest assured you will look like an idiot wearing a box on your head and playing with a foam piece, but it's well worth it.

The nice thing about these goggles is that they work with just about any device. Many of the goggles to come before it required flagship phones sold at premium price points. This pretty well eliminated most users. Since this set of goggles works with just about any phone it opens up an opportunity for everyone to give VR a try on even budget phones.
