Unfortunately, you can't use this card to extend an existing subscription unless it was purchased directly from Microsoft. I had to cancel my subscription through Apple and get a refund for the unused portion before I could use the card. I would purchase this only for an initial subscription or to extend an existing one purchased directly from MS.

I hate the annual subscription concept, but BestBuy did me right in offering it at a discounted rate with 18 month membership at the time of purchasing a new LapTop. Thanks BestBuy!

The membership is nice as it updates when needed instead of having to purchase latest product, however, probably more cost effective to have been able to buy the product once in awhile instead of an every year membership.
