Turns out it was an add-on from my Norton software that was causing the issue. Once I resolved that, everything is working fine. I was also able to convert some old Word and Excel files to the new format with no issues.

I feel like it is lacking key features for the types of things I am trying to do. Going to give Polaris Office a try and see if it has the features I am wanting. Also, trying to print creations from Word has been a total nightmare. 100% preview on Word looks perfect but the printer screen changes the layout and cuts off random parts of the page. Very frustrating to work with.
