When I returned the ourchase, Best Buy tried to charge me for this (even though I never downloaded it), but eventually they figured out how to take back the code.

Although you get a good price for the first year, your subscription billing gets taken over by BB. For subsequent years they charge the full price.

With this feedback, Microsoft came out with Office 365 (subscription based only) versions and Office 2016 versions sold at a one-time retail price and you own it forever.
