I'm a writer and for me the old version was quite adequate for composing just not for other technology interface. Perhaps if you were changing from a more recent version of Word to this one it would be easier; but I found this version to be particularly difficult to navigate with too many non essential options mixed in and not clearly demarcated from the basic tools. I found I had to do a great deal of trial and error to just find the basics for writing and this was time consuming and frustrating. Sometimes Microsoft makes changes that are very difficult to use. This is one example. BTW, I went from XP Home OS to 8.1. I found this similarly making unnecessary hard to navigate changes.
