Some programs do not support scrolling for anything less than a full line at a time, so they do not process scrolling instructions from a smooth scroll wheel correctly. If you have a program that scrolls too quickly, barely scrolls, or lurches forward when scrolling, you can add it to the scrolling assistance list. Learn more how to do this here:

Turns out it requires the dongle and uses the only USB A slot in the laptop. Really unfortunate, but during quarantine, I can't be picky.

There are some fundamental issues. It disconnects fairly regularly, the range is not terribly far and there isn't an option to turn sound off. Every time you scroll the mouse emits a low noise representing you are scrolling. Unnecessary and a bit of a nuisance. It is a comfortable desk mouse though.
