I bought this keyboard a few years ago and it's been my main one all this time. I bought it because of the height platform it came with that raises the wrists up to a very ergonomically comfortable level. Unfortunately, this also makes the keyboard take up a huge footprint and will not fit on the keyboard drawer in a lot of desks. Thus, I've taken it off and don't use it. The keyboard is a standard Win95 format which includes several media buttons for extra functionality. I personally am not a big fan of them except in the case of audio controls, which do not function since I use iTunes instead of Windows Media Player. Value for Price There are far better keyboards out there for the price you'll pay for this one. The ergonomic shape, however, is great if you're really concerned about ergonomics and wrist injuries. Compatibility Works "out of the box" in Windows of course. Haven't tried it on a Mac. It is only compatible with Windows Media Player. It will not control iTunes. Anyone with an iPod will find the audio controls useless. Design The ergonomics and shape of the keyboard are, like I mentioned, very well designed for the human hand. I write quite a bit and do not experience any wrist fatigue. However, that's about the only good I can say about it. My first grip is the audio controls. Only Volume Up/Down and Play/Pause are present. No next track or previous track buttons. Come on Microsoft! I use the Next and previous track buttons way more than the Play/Pause button, but since it doesn't work with iTunes anyway that makes it a moot point. The other problem I have with the design is that its extremely LOUD. It reminds me of those old clickety-clackety keyboards from the 80's. Plus, the space bar's curved shape makes it difficult to press down. I have to slam it hard with my thumb every time. If it were a standard keyboard with no curved shape and platform it would be a carpal tunnel machine without a doubt. My wife's computer is in the same room and she can barely stand it when I'm typing because it's so loud and annoying. Ease of Use Hey, it's a keyboard. You type on it and words appear on the screen. It's not rocket science. All the keys are in the right place and the only issue would be if you've never typed on an ergonomic keyboard before. I regularly switch from a standard keyboard at work to this one and I never even notice. So in short it may take some getting used to, but it's not that bad. Overall Overall this keyboard is NOT worth the money. Next time I'm probably going to go with Logitech or some other brand that has full audio controls and doesn't sound like a train going over tracks when I type on it.

    Great keyboard

I got this keyboard as a present for my mom for Christmas this year. She works in a law office and literally does nothing all day except type. She has had an office and computer job for 30 years, and this was the first special keyboard she ever tried. She absolutely loved just the idea of it when she opened it on Christmas morning. She set it up and said it helped her wrists sit more comfortably throughout the day. The letter spacing is hard to get used to at first, but the pros of the keyboard completely outweigh that single con of the keyboard.

    Great ergonomic keyboard!

This is a really nice ergonomic keyboard (kb). When you put your hands on this you can tell that there was a lot of thought put into this. Besides the obvious arch of keys, the bar that raises the kb makes a difference! In many cases your kb is not ideally leveled to your elbows so your hands will arch when your wrist lays on your wrist pad. The bar solves this issue by raising the wrist pad area. It feels really comfortable. It is bulky for sure, but it was designed this way for comfort. The programmable function keys are also a nice addition. It's flexible enough to add a path or url, effectively opening up a website, file, or program. The only thing I disliked and had to get used to was that I am not a fan of split-kb as I don't type standard (eg. type B-key with my right hand). Anyone who sits in front of the screen for more than a few hours a day needs to get an ergonomic kb to save your wrists!

    Great Keyboard

Special keys include Web/Home, Search, mail, calculator, CD volume control, Mute, CD Play. Keyboard also has 5 customizable keys for favorites. Included wrist wrest is comfortable.. Key presses make a quiet mechanical clicking sound with good tactile feel. Microsoft (and others) claim that slanted split design has good ergonomics - I agree. I bought this to replace a 5 year old identical keyboard, which unfortunately did not survive a major coffee spill. Previous keyboard did not have any issues for 5 years until I spilled an entire cop of coffee on it. Would buy again.

I purchased a Microsoft Ergonomic Combo 7000, and found it to be a true marvel of comfort. The keyboard was fantastic, but I thought the mouse sucked. When the keyboard died, I went online to get another 7000. What I had bought on sale for $75.00, Now cost around $300.00. I read a review in which another buyer had an identical problem. They purchased the Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 keyboard. They indicated that the 4000 had the same look and feel as the 7000 keyboard. They were right. I have the same feeling about the look and feel of this keyboard. I cannot state too strongly how comfortable the 4000 keyboard is too use. If you have never used an ergonomic keyboard, treat yourself to this keyboard. The keyboard is wired, wihich too me is no concern, I don't move my keyboard around much. I use a wireless mouse. Nothing fancy. A price that is a fraction of price for a 7000 seals the deal.

    Exceptional Keyboard

This is the first split (natural) keyboard I have used and am extremely satisfied. Being a former "typist" on a typewriter, I wasn't extactly sure how I would like the hand placement on the home row and actual keyboarding. It took about a week or two to get used to it, but I now wonder how I've lived without it this long. Since I am at the computer almost eight hours a day, I felt the beginnings of carpel tunnel syndrome with my old keyboard. After using my new Microsoft Natural keyboard, the pain has almost completely diminished. In fact, I find it difficult to return the a regular keyboard at home and will be purchasing another in the near future. They are a little pricey, but definitely worth the investment; watch for sales. I initially had a stiff space bar, but that seemed to work itself out in the first week. No problems now, and not enough to lower my rating. I highly recommend this keyboard to everyone who uses a computer all day.

It definitely helps with my wrist and arm fatigue from typing all day. The one thing I find annoying is that the space bar is really loud. It's not that bad if I hit it with my left thumb, but if you are right handed and accustomed to pushing the space bar with your right thumb, it's way louder than any other key.

I was never a fan of Microsoft keyboards, having used them for work 30-some years ago. For the past 15 or so years I've been rather attached to my Logitech Wave keyboard. I type so much that I was going through one every other year. Then it became one a year and now every few months I'm having to replace it as it becomes so hard to type on. I recently decided to give Microsoft a try after reading up on their ergonomic keyboards and currently have no less than 6 keyboards in my home office. Gave the Sculpt a try, but I just couldn't deal with the separate numeric keypad and the horrible mouse. I've also kept a wired Fellowes as a backup, but I just can't get used to that one. Last weekend I purchased two more Microsoft keyboards: the 5050 and this model, the 4000 (which is the cheapest of all the keyboards I own and lucky for me it was on sale!) After giving them a try, I was pleasantly surprised to find the cheapest keyboard my favorite. This model was the easiest for me to get used to and I've already programmed the 5 *favorite* buttons up top to take me to exactly where I want to go. I'd love a wireless version of this keyboard, but the wire is not a deal breaker for me. I didn't give this keyboard 5 stars as it remains to be seen how long this one will last me. I do like that it comes with an attachment that raises the part of the keyboard closest to one's body. I haven't used it regularly, but imagine I will at the first sign of wrist strain. I like the softer wrist rest--much nicer than the old hard plastic ones, but still wouldn't mind a little more cushion. I'd also prefer a larger delete button as in the work I do, I'm using it to delete pages and pages of text at a time and I miss my old Logitech Wave delete button. Still, Microsoft has come a long way in its development of keyboards over the years and I'm really hoping this one lasts me more than a year.

Second one I have purchased. Love it except that the key strokes are loud. My wrist hurt all the time and since I started using it I have had no pain. Love it. Wish they would totally separate the board into two. That would make it awesome. Otherwise it totally helps pain caused from standard keyboards.

I have been using these for years now, and when it came to upgrading, there was no other option. Great quality, sturdy keyboard. Slightly on the larger size, but when you spent hours on the keyboard every day, definitely an plus to have the wrist support

I have now used this Microsoft ergonomic keyboard for several months. It took very little time to adapt to the ergonomic shape and I would never go back now to a conventional keyboard. It has taken a lot of pressure off my wrists and relieved the tension I was feeling. I have not utilized the programmable keys yet however I can see that those would also be helpful. At the current price this is an excellent value. Obviously this is a wired keyboard so if you need to have a wireless option this is not the right version. No issues with reliability.
