Almost Perfect!!! 4.5 Stars
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, I have had 2013 Home & Office, 2016 Office and the 365 and now I have a chance to look at the 2019 Office Home & Business for the first time Desktop License, not 365 version. This means no access to MS Publisher if you are interested in that you can get that in the Office 365 Business with paid mo. Subscription or Office 365 Business premium. Was looking forward to seeing the new features for the office suite since the 2016 version that launched in September of 2015. So, with no further ado here we go. The 2019 Home & Business suite comes with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, One Note, and Outlook (The email app in this suite). The new features are listed here. • Excel: Businesses can take advantage of new Excel functions, Power Pivot and Power Query enhancements, and 2D maps. Users can also publish from Excel to Power BI in the Office 2019 version. • Outlook: Microsoft has updated contact cards, support @ mentions within Outlook and introduce focused inbox features. • Word: Word has a new black theme, sounds integrated into Office 2019, learning tools and text-to-speech features. There are various accessibility and usability improvements. • PowerPoint: Microsoft added enhanced zoom capabilities, the ability to manage 3D images within the program and enhanced roaming pencil case features. • OneNote: OneNote is arguably got the biggest update. Microsoft said in a separate release that it combines OneNote 2016's best features with Windows 10 usability. These features include ink-to-text, improved syncing and an enhanced user experience. Excel - Works awesome, the new pivot features are a synch and its ability to publish directly from Excel to PowerPoint works like a charm. It takes some time to get used to the sizing the charts or data you are publishing. But it’s a nice touch to both programs in the suite. Outlook – This one is a bit different. The Outlook program tends to freeze-up when it is updating your emails or downloading pictures from an email sent. Just seems a bit slow to respond. Even deleting emails seems to be a bit slow. Maybe this will be fixed in a new update and I will keep you posted on this. Also, there is a glitch when the Outlook program is open. It has a file called archive.pst that does not allow you to open your One drive while in use. Again I am sure this is a bug and can and will be fixed. This is the only reason I give 4 Star review. If I could give 4.5 I would. Word – Again if you like the 2016 version of this you will enjoy its enhancements such as texed to speech which is my favorite. I have the Dragon program but when you're in the word program this is just as good a program and its built in. Nice touch. PowerPoint – I am not a heavy PowerPoint user but I can see how the 3d imaging and the roaming pencil will work for those that are heavy users. Especially with collaborative teams such as advertisers can use these powerful features. One Note – This feature is said to have had the biggest improvements and this also is a good upgrade from the 2016 version. I just did a quick view of this one and is no different. Whether you are taking notes in school, or in a meeting you can later view these online or on your phone while at lunch. Now, this program allows you to capture recipes online, integrate excel worksheet data in notes and share them online with classmates or team members. Has so much functionality with the way we create and share important notes or meeting, minutes whatever you call them, they are there for you and others at the touch of a screen at home or away. Very nice!!! This is a great program and I know the folks at Microsoft and listening to these reviews and the improvements yet to come will be heard soon. I would recommend this program to all my friends and associates.

An Incredible Suite of Applications
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Once Microsoft Office 2016 started disappearing from shelves, I thought that Microsoft was just going to go all-in on having their products available by subscription only. But here comes Office 2019 in time for Christmas - a one-time purchase that provides a single license for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. To avail yourself of their entire suite of business applications for PC or Mac, you still need to go with their Office 365 subscription to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, and Access (with other assorted tools and services designed for effective file saving and sharing). There are no installation disks here. Your purchase of Office 2019 is the purchase of only a product key - installation requires internet access and a Microsoft account. Installation is a little confusing (the website clearly revolves around Office 365) but it didn’t take long to get things working. The style of the applications in Office 2019 has not changed noticeably from Office 2016. Surely the versions here have been updated, but the only new features that immediately stood out to me for 2019 were: (1) the seamless and well-designed ability to use scalable vector graphics across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint together with over 500 cute scalable icons for use as well, and (2) a feature that lets you morph elements within a single PowerPoint slide (you sort of create your own moving slide experience from elements you have inserted). For years now, Microsoft Office has been the one to beat - and nobody has come close. I think the core programs here are among the most well designed and intuitive programs for anything on the market (I’m still not a fan of Access, but that’s not included here) - Microsoft has designed these programs to be there to help you do complex maneuvers without ever appearing to get in your way. Office 2019 is incredible - as was Office 2016. And I’m glad that Microsoft is keeping this group of programs available without having to purchase an ongoing subscription - I just don’t think I could ever feel right about subscribing to word processing and whatnot.

Microsoft does it again!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In a world where most software has been condensed to apps, or has online use only, its nice to see companies still putting out actual full fledged software programs that you can install on your computer. If you've been an office user at all in your lifetime, all of these programs will come very easily to you. They haven't changed a whole heck of a lot over the years, but Microsoft continues to innovate and add features that people want and need in their office programs. Included in the bundle is Word, Excel, PowerPoint, outlook, and OneNote for windows 10. Everything you'd need for a small business at home. It's great for just everyday users as well. Mostly I use word and Outlook, but on occasion will put together power-point presentations or have the need to make an excel spreadsheet. So its nice to know everything is there if I need it. Also, be sure to check out the microsoft website after you install the software. They have added many videos not only telling you what new features have been added to each program, but there are also videos that train you how to use the software! Overall, its a solid software package, and I could go on for days and days about all the new features and what it does. But I figure most people that read this have used office before and just wonder if this is a worthwhile upgrade...and I can tell you that without a doubt, it is! I am constantly using it and its nice to know that even if my internet goes out, I can still use it because its not a web based app.

Buy or Rent?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded to Office 2019 from Office Professional 2013. Owning Office has a few disadvantages over 'leasing' the subscription 365 version. The stand-alone version is yours to own with no monthly or annual fees. However, this version can only be installed on one device at a time, and does not come with cloud storage or updated features. The 365 version can be installed on up to five different devices. With the stand-alone version, if you want the latest features or updates, you're forced to purchase the next iteration when (if) it’s released in a few years. I noticed that Office 2019 loads significantly faster than its previous versions. I primarily use MS Word, and for most writing needs, the new features are nice but not earth shattering. I do appreciate the ‘Tell me what you want to do feature’. It makes it much easier to get helpful tips and instructions to help you get what you need from the program. Personally, I prefer to own the software rather than continue to pay indefinitely to use it. Since the added features included in each new iteration probably won’t justify dropping a few hundred dollars to have, paying one price seems like the logical option for me. While the cloud-based option in the 365 version is convenient and practical, there are comparable options that don’t cost any money.

Same ole same ole
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Basically the same as 2016. Easy enough to download and install. It replaced my Office 2016 with no issues. It looks exactly the same. The various Office products all did start a little faster. The major thing is support for the product is now 5 years + 2 years extended instead of 5 and 5. This maybe the last non 365 subscription version you can buy. So, get it before Microsoft makes everything a subscription based service. You'll be good for 7 years it seems. So, if you already own 2016 standalone, this will provide a few more years of updates. Here are the differences from the Microsoft website below from Office 2016 to 2019: Word Black theme Learning tools (captions and audio descriptions) Speech feature (text-to-speech) Improved inking functionality Accessibility improvements Excel Funnel charts, 2D maps, and timelines New Excel functions and connectors Ability to publish Excel to PowerBI PowerPivot enhancements PowerQuery enhancements PowerPoint Zoom capabilities for ordering of slides within presentations Morph transition feature Ability to insert and manage Icons, SVG, and 3D models Improved roaming pencil case Outlook Updated contact cards Office 365 Groups1 @mentions Focused inbox Travel and delivery summary cards

Basics are still the same
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are used to using an earlier version of Office, you may find some of the elements in the programs a bit disconcerting as they've either changed or been moved but the basics have stayed the same. In Word it is like when they move things at the grocery store - the big areas stay the same but the specialty areas get moved or rebranded. In Excel, nothing I use regularly has changed. As for Powerpoint, it is a program I'm using again after not having to use it for a while. I find it much easier to use than older versions and time-saving as well. It now takes me about an hour to do a 40 slide presentation that used to take me 3 to 4 hours. The big problem with Office is that you only get the big three - Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I really wish they would put out a version which also included Publisher which is much easier to use when designing business cards, flyers and posters for a business. As long as you only need those three and don't need to share files in the cloud, I wholeheartedly recommend Office 2019. If you need more, you may want to see what is more cost-effective for you depending on what elements you need to add, get this with the addition of the elements you need or get Office 365 with the yearly subscription. .

Gold Standard for School or Business
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has been over ten years since I have updated my Microsoft Office suite, so I was long overdue. Microsoft Word has always been my go-to document writing software, but the add-ons from documents created by new versions were having issues loading. So far, I have only used Word, but I have flipped though presentations using PowerPoint. I like how Microsoft has kept many old features to make the program familiar, but has enhanced the user experience by adding features such as Draw. I also liked how Designs and Layout are easy to access via tabs. If you want to own and not rent a copy of Microsoft Office, then this is the way to go. The upside to purchasing is that you don’t have to upgrade each year. The downside is that it’s more expensive and may not get the security patches as quickly as Office 365. In addition, 365 can be installed on multiple computers, versus just one computer of Microsoft Office. Either way, you will get a great program with a lot of support.
