If you did that, and then purchased this charger, you could then charge your device, as Microsoft intended.

My original charger died and I needed a new one right away to work from out of town. Pick this one up and never missed a beat.

Bought a cheaper travel charger and it dies in the middle of a trip. Luck that a Best Buy was nearby and they had the correct charger. Pricy but ,,, it works well
