Not a computer.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing makes a pretty decent tablet, but I wouldn’t use it for anything other than light web browsing and emails. After buying it, I had a lot of problems with it not keeping a charge on the battery and after some research, found out that the power supply doesn’t actually provide enough power to keep it charged if you’re using it while it’s plugged in. From my experience, if you have more than one browser tab open (or an app like Spotify) the battery actually drains while it’s plugged in. So you can’t actually use it for more than a couple of hours before having to stop using it and let it recharge. Fail.

Solid laptop, but pricey
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my second Surface Book - the first generation's batteries swelled and that was a disappointment, but, I love the form factor and build quality. Great display and overall, great laptop. I just wish it was less expensive.

Poor quality control
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this and had it shipped to my house. Worked great but felt worried about the docking connection. After using awhile I noticed the camera resolution was terrible like an old school webcam. Then I noticed the A button wouldn't work as well as the left 2/3 of the space bar you had to press extra hard to get it to work. Brought it back to store as I only had it 4 days. There was loose metal screws floating around under the keys and the space nar was warped and wavey (not a feature) and we couldn't figure out why the camera image and battery life were acting the way they were.

Over promised under delivered.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not a great execution. The screen is too heavy so it is awkward to use. There is a fan in the screen that was so loud I had to crank up the audio to 80% to drown it out. Had issues with drivers. All in all was not impressed. Specs are great but some things were poorly designed.

Great idea but Windows OS ruins it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The structure itself is an interesting idea, but Windows OS ruined it. Literally. It decided to randomly force windows updates and corrupted itself. It couldn’t book from an older version, either.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Winows 10 based. 1st update system crashed. Only 19 days in, so no return. Had to fight to get fixed ASAP, even with warranty. But, had I "dropped" it they would have replaced it.

Afraid It Will Catch on Fire
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have tried to find an alternative because the tablet/screen gets so hot! Love just about everything about it except that I'm afraid the unit is going to catch on fire. Why did Microsoft not include a cooling system? Especially when selling this as a tablet for drawing and painting apps? Spent way too much money for a device that has such a serious flaw. If anyone has a recommendation for something better, please let me know. I am looking... thanks!

A little upgrade over the Orig Surface Book
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Surface Book 2, because the screen on my original Surface Book cracked (from a drop). This review is a comparison between the original Surface Book (not performance base) and Surface Book 2. Look/Feel--nearly identical . Supposedly the Surface Book 2 weighs a little bit more than the original due to a larger battery. I can't tell the difference. I think the 2 is a little less precarious/top heavy than the original, which is nice. Battery Life--noticeably better. The original unit would go down in battery quite quickly, and noticeably--easily down 20% in an hour or two of fairly moderate use. The 2 holds a charge quite a bit better. For some reason, Microsoft included a shorter power cord in the 2, so I'm still using my old cord. Speed--my original unit was i7, 16 MB RAM. My Surface Book 2 is also i7, 16 MB RAM. The 2 is noticeably faster than the original (apparently the i7 processer in the 2 is quad-core). Less freezing, slowing down than the original. I am not a gamer so I can't speak to speed under extremely demanding graphics. Resolution--the resolution on the 2 is supposedly better. I cannot tell the difference. I thought the resolution on the original was beautiful, and the resolution on the 2 is the same as far as I can tell. Cost--still expensive, though similarly priced as the original. Surface Books are pretty premium computers and are priced that way. I feel like you get more functionality out of this unit than a similarly priced Apple. Not including the pen/stylus in the Surface Book 2 was kind of chintzy. Fortunately, I already had one from the original, but if you don't, the pen will cost you about $60. Summary--I liked my original Surface Book a lot. I bought the original when I had an Apple that was still ok, but wanted to move to the Surface Book for additional functionality and the touch screen. My complaints with the original were generally battery life and the precariousness of the unit. Both of these issues have improved some in the Surface Book 2. The new unit is a little bit faster and smoother, which is nice. The differences are there, but none of them are "huge." The two units basically look and feel a lot the same. I upgraded tot he 2 strictly because my original one had a broken screen, but it's probably not worth making a switch if your original unit is still fine, given the steep cost for this computer. I probably wouldn't buy an original Surface Book now that the Surface Book 2 is available (unless you get a deep discount), but I wouldn't drop the money upgrading from an original for the fairly subtle improvements in the Surface Book 2. I still like the Surface Book 2 a lot, but I liked my original Surface Book a lot, also.
