I bought the Surface Book 2 for my laptop for college, but as soon as I opened up the packaging, I realized this was not the laptop I wanted for college. So I ended up returning it. Though for the little time I did have it, it was a pretty good laptop. It runs well, a bit slower than I had hoped, from what I remember, but still a good laptop.

I was excited when I bought it but what a piece of junk! First it had problems charging, then it had problems with the connection between the screen and the keyboard (I hadn't even use the screen on it's own yet) then the screen was replaced and the new screen had the same issue. The whole thing was replaced next and now the new one is having similar problems with both charging and the connections between the screen and keyboard. I recently (too late) discovered that Consumer Reports pulled it's recommendation for the Surface in 2017 for reliability issues. They have since given their recommendation again after changes were made but clearly the Surface line still has major issues.

This was my second Surface purchase. I returned the first one because the USB port was bad. I returned this one because it was unstable. It would freeze, eliminate my sign-on password as well picture id. I am a long term Microsoft user and have to say I was disappointed in this hardware. I have other computers running the same software so feel confident it was the hardware. I ended up switching to MAC Book Pro.

    A Solid, but Flawed, 2-in-1

Microsoft has really stepped up its hardware game over the last few years, and the Surface Book 2 is evidence of that. The Surface Book 2 offers an innovative approach to the 2-in-1 computing category, serving a dual purpose as a powerful laptop and tablet. Pros of the device include its gorgeous PixelSense display, pleasant typing experience, reliable touch input, and long battery life. Cons that I have noticed include its tendency to run extremely warm, intermittent issues with its discrete NVIDIA GPU, and a small trackpad given the size of the device. Windows 10 truly is the "best Windows yet," and it runs like butter on the Surface Book 2. Overall, a very solid offering with a few flaws that make it short of perfect.

    Hugely disappointed

First off I do love PCs and I have an older surface book. It had issues with the keyboard randomly stop working but I dealt with it in hoping Microsoft could fix this with the new one. Well that’s the ONLY thing they got right. Pros: Bigger more beautiful screen Cons 1. 8th gen i7 overheats to 100 Celsius so fast!! If people actually monitored the cpu they will notice huge throttling and high temps taking place 2. It has frozen several times from the monitor turning off, not going to sleep. I have to hard restart it plus the back of the screen is melting hot and I get the temp icon on restart stating it had over heated! 3. I’m a professional photographer and I use professional software like photoshop and capture one. I can 100% say that MacBook Pro is faster and much more responsive in both of these softwares. It takes longer to load previews in capture one and longer to process and open the apps. For a company stated they are trying to get the artist community then they are not listening to a lot of them. If you are a drawer or painter then sure it’s good for that, but NOT photography. It is so much slower when compared to a Mac. Sorry. Finally I will say again I use desktop PC and I really wanted to leave MAC behind on the laptop world for my photography but I just don’t see that happening right now

Not the best for digital artist

Product Has Serious Overheating issue! First let me say that I've done all the research, I watched youtube, read magazine reviews and spoke with every Best Buy Agent I could. I'm a digital artist, I use mainly Adobe products and I was in the market to find 2 in 1 that work support my art on the go. Of course I thought about getting a Mac because it's industry standard (I now understand why), but I really wanted a 2-1 option. I was looking for something I could draw on and use full programs (as tablets only use apps). So I went to Best Buy and spoke with an agent, told them what I was looking for and they recommended the Surface Book 2. I went home did some research and thought it was a good choice. I even went to 3 different Best Buys in my city and every agent I spoke to assured me that this machine could handle photoshop and was worth the price tag. So I went for it and purchased this very Expensive "Premium" machine. It's been 1 MONTH and it's unusable for me. This computer gets so overheated I can't even draw on it. In the short time I've had it ,I've only been able to complete 1 illustration and I had to wear a scarf over my hand to it. 5 minutes into running Photoshop the tablet starts to get hot, then the base gets hot. This is honestly the last problem I would expect to have from a machine that is nearly (or more than) $3k. I wanted to do digital art tutorials and videos with this computer, but I can't even do simple illustrations in Adobe without this problem. I'm also an influencer on social media and I can not in good confidence recommend this computer to my audience. I'm so disappointed with the performance of this machine and if it wasn't for best buy's 15 day return policy, it would have been back in store on day 19! I hope this review helps another digital artist before they put alot of money down on this machine.

I was hoping that after spending over $2600 for a new computer I would be free of problems, but NOOOOO! One thing after another, hardware, software, operating system, bugs bugs bugs, Microsoft updates are the worst thing ever!!! Why cant we just go back to buying a windows version and being done with these monthly updates that just companies problems and more problems! I wanted to like this computer but so far its a lemon

layout of the keyboard and size of keys are smaller than my ASUS laptop. Key pad is too far forward, allows for unnecessary errors when reaching to type. Difficulty getting on line and securing singular address. Geek Squad cannot seem to figure out how to correct this after 4 visits, they recommended I use their rep to come to my home, for 50.00 per visit.
