I used to own a laptop, so I was expecting to buy one but it seems most place don't sell those anymore. NOw they sell tablets or "two in one". So first I'll go with the pros. Its small and portable. Being able to remove the tablet from the keyboard is nice, especially when you want to use the pen to draw art or write stuff down (assuming you don't want to type). I also like how cool it stays. And if I remember right the bottom opens up so you can replace the the hard drive with something bigger or even use a SD card. It also boots up fast. The cons are unlike a laptop you don't' have very much attached to the tablet. No cd/dvd rom built in. Which means you have to buy a portable one. Not many ports to use. Only 2 USBs, a SD card slot and a power slot. It comes with Windows 10 which I personally hate. Alot changed since Windows 7 and I don't like it. I did install a program that makes it look like Windows 7 instead but it isn't perfect. The hard drive it comes with is only 128gigs. Which is very small, for me at least. Overall while I am glad to have this, I sort of wish I could return it and find a regular laptop somewhere. But tablets and 2-in-1s are the future sadly. I did get it also to do art but Photoshop is so tiny on the screen that you can barely see the buttons you press. The new Surface that comes out in a few months doesn't allow you to detach the tablet, so I am glad I did get this one then. So if your used to a laptop, try to find one instead. If you think you can handle something like this then give it a shot.

Basic surface nook. Use a a replacement for surface pro tablet. Good feel and functionality. Not a replacement for my desktop but a more durable feel than the pro tablet for mobile work.

It's really light, and the battery life is awesome. I'm in college and I find the one note software paired with the pen is great for taking notes, it has a front and rear facing camera so if you need to record a lecture toy insert it into your notes in one note. You can also get a digital copy of a book and use the pen as a highlighter.

So far I have bought 2 of these for work. The sales person who is on the road 4 days a week loves it. The only down side is if you Adobe or software that takes up a lot of space do not get the 128GB.

I bought this for my daughter to run Adobe creative cloud. She has been able to run all programs. Does not use the feature of removing the surface pad as much as I expected due to battery life limitations.

The surface is awesome, defiantly a desktop/laptop replacement and the hard keyboard makes it that much more of a versatile tablet. The only reason for a missing star is the lack of outer covers available for purchase.

I bought this to replace my Sony Vaio Flip 13 which I really loved. The Vaio had the screen fail and I needed a replacement ASAP. My choice was the Surface Book or the regular Surface. I chose the Book model because it offered a "real" keyboard, extended battery life, and 2 USB3 ports compared to the standard Surface PRO 3 or 4. Yes it is larger, but that was one of the draws for me as the 3/4 screens were just too small. I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars for a couple reasons - reasons that I find to be a bit annoying even though they don't actually pose huge problems: 1) I really HATE that newer keyboards are combining the "F keys" with other functionality (like Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, etc.). When utilizing it as a laptop I find myself, because of the applications I need to use, constantly having to flip back and forth between Function keys and standard maneuvering keys. Annoying. This, of course, is NOT an issue when utilizing as a desktop using either a USB3 dock or the MS Surface dock. 2) The dependence upon the MS Surface line to ONLY have a DisplayPort vs. standard HDMI or mini-HDMI. This forces me to have to carry around a DP to HDMI dongle for the occasions I need to attach to external monitors/projectors during meetings. 3) The SD card slot does, while useful, is VERY annoying - the card slot does not accept the full card into it - it sticks out 3/4 of an inch out the side of the slot. HUGELY ANNOYING as my old Vaio would accept the full card so that it is was flush and could be left in the machine for additional storage and/or backup space. Now I have to carry the SD card around separately - which makes it VERY EASY to lose. Overall, a quick, bright, and responsive laptop. Connected to a docking solution it make a very good desktop. Flipped or separated from the keyboard it makes a decent tablet.

    FLexibility and Performance

Probably the biggest thing that sold us on the Surface, and the thing I am still impressed with, is the combination of performance and flexibility. It is flexible enough to act as a laptop or a tablet, and I like that the tablet is an actual tablet, not a laptop folding back in half. But it also has the performance of high-end laptop. Can run any program we need. Has more than enough power to keep with anything we throw at it.
