Looks great, but doesn't perform

Great idea, that just needs lots of work.

I went back and forth on which to buy between this laptop and the MacBook pro and I 100% made the right decision. Touchscreen, the pen, and the detachable options are all things that I use often (more than I though that I would). Screen looks amazing and better that the MacBook pro retina.

The reviews seem to vary based on the machine received. I decided to roll the dice and purchase this model. It was a bet that didn't pay off and it breaks my heart because I love this computer (for the 2 minutes it works). I have spent 40+ hours troubleshooting, reinstalling, updating...to no avail. I cannot use this computer to do any work. It is unreliable, freezing and blue screening constantly. I am afraid to do anything on this unit of value because I know it will fail. It is a ton of money to spend on a machine that isn't functional. The concept of the Surface Book is amazing and nothing on the market even comes close to the versatility. I am keeping my fingers cross that the next computer I but will actually work. Also, it is disappointing to see Microsoft not putting accurate information out to the public about how truly unreliable this product is. Down grade to have a computer that runs? Seems crazy but...

The laptop resets to a dark screen when awakened from sleep. Microsoft has perpetrated a fraud on the consumer with gadgetry and pizazz but no reliability.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to love this machine and looked forward to its launch, but with an unresponsive trackpad, buggy issues with the screen flickering, random BSODs, and poor quality control on a highly anticipated "premium" laptop release, back to the store it went. It was replaced with a new MacBook Pro, which has yet to disappoint me. Nice try, Microsoft....

It was black after logging in, then I researched and Microsoft forums mentioned 'Resetting' it (which is reformatting basically). However, resetting failed habitually at 68% and would error out. Then would cycle over and over in the repair mode when turned on. I returned the thing, the best buy customer service did the best they could, but the i7 version I ordered is not available anywhere now. So I am totally out of luck. It is not Best Buy's fault, but the Surface Book sucks and wasted 2 full days.

The transition from a mouse/keyboard interface to a touch/keyboard/mouse interface may be too much for my feeble mind. There is not Windows Transfer Utility equivalent which makes it difficult to move applications. To date, I haven't been able to be productive on the Surface Book. Will update if/when things improve

Worse purchase of my life

I had CONSTANT Blue Screens, random restarts, and freezes with my unit. Microsoft support is worse than Comcast, and that's saying something! I pray for the day I can get this thing exchanged, so I can sell the new one! Will never own another surface product in my life!!!
