Overall one of the better laptops on the market with above average specs and runs smoothly. Make sure you update the system using Windows update which includes all the driver updates.

Disappointed that it didn't come with Windows Pro. Had to spend an extra $100 to upgrade. Other than that it works pretty smoothly. Have had any issues with it. Works great.

Disclaimer: As a member of the Best Buy Tech Insider Program, I was provided this laptop for review at no charge. Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews. I purchased the original Surface Book the first week they were initially released several years ago. Although I loved the design, the performance was glitchy, and I ended up returning it and buying a Surface Pro 4. I am happy to report that the SB3 has solved the glitches that initially plagued the first release. The design follows the standard MS industrial look that I've grown to love. I think it looks quite nice. The hinge on the SB3 has been refined and works more smoothly. It does still leave a gap between the screen and the body when closed, of course. The hinge design also adds some bulk. The area above the keyboard feels a bit like wasted space, but it's fine. The keyboard is fantastic, as is the trackpad. Microsoft has done a great job making their trackpads and keyboards easy to use and very functional. This is a very comfortable machine to use. The PixelSense screen is gorgeous and renders beautiful images. Motion is blur-free. As part of my real-world job this year, I have taken on some video editing projects, so I was excited to pit the SB3 against my primary desktop machine I had been using for editing. I generally switch back and forth between Adobe Elements Premiere and Shotcut, for different features. So I loaded them up on the the SB3 and dove in. First, my desktop computer is no slouch. It's a pretty strong computer with a good processor, a good amount of memory, and separate graphics card. I have been very pleased with how quickly it renders videos. However, the SB3 bests it across the board, and it wasn't even close. On average, the SB3 renders 1080p videos 33% faster than my desktop. I was pleasantly surprised. I had expected it would be about the same speed or a little slower than the desktop. I did not expect it to be so much faster. The SB3 makes a terrific work machine thanks to its combination of slick appearance, very fast processing speed, best-in-class keyboard, and excellent trackpad. On top of that, the face ID works quickly in almost any lighting situation, making accessing the computer extremely easy. Battery life has been more than satisfactory. And none of that even takes into account the fact you can easily detach the screen and use it as a tablet. It's a big, bulky tablet, but I can certainly see some uses for it, especially if you're working in graphics. I'd still suggest, as I did with the original model, that MS add some sort of built-in kickstand for it, as they do with the Surface Pro. It has reasonably sized bezels so you can hold it in tablet format. The original SB was a swing for the lights that didn't quite connect. The SB3 is a home run. I am very pleased with how refined and powerful this laptop is. It is not cheap, but the performance in every category justifies the price if you need high quality for video or graphics.

Needed a new laptop that would last me awhile and this was it. Other than the screen bezel thickness being large compared to others, this laptop is perfect for me.

The Microsoft Surface Book 3 is a combination of beauty and beast as the design is just beautiful (brushed aluminum with a sleek curvature that radiates beauty and distinct class) with a beast processor that puts out exceptionally fast and quick. Here are some notable mentions that I discovered stand out: Processor: I work in higher education on the community college platform. We have quarterly news that highlights campus events, student achievements, community events, and staff mentions. We use Adobe Premiere Pro. I can tell you the turn-around time has been phenomenal as the processor in this beast just seems to edit and capture content cleanly. Videoconferencing: The Coronavirus pandemic has taken education to an online status as it relates to teaching, meetings, and conferences. Our team frequently meets via Zoom to discuss plans for this upcoming fall term. The video resolution of 1080p (1920X1080) is just stunning and awesome! Most videos have a resolution 0f 720p (1280X720) which makes viewing look so grainy, distorted and plain 80’s looking! We held 2 meetings this week and thanks to Surface Pro 3, the images were just clear and distinct. Battery Life: Battery Life on this laptop is amazingly robust as I have easily gotten 3 days’ worth of usage including editing of videos without having to charge. I guess the 127-watt brick packs a powerful charging punch. I will note, outside of editing of videos, I have done some moving watching along with typing of documents. Keyboard/trackpad: The keys on this laptop are very tactile and comfortable to type on. By far, this is the best keyboarding experience I have had in quite sometimes. I love the feel, spacing and overall comfort when typing. The only additional plus would have been adding a numeric keypad as it makes tasks such as inputting of grades a lot easier. The trackpad is very tactile as well, I do not use it regularly because I am from the mouse era, as such I am using a Bluetooth mouse. Overall, I think Microsoft has done a wonderful job with this laptop as it can meet the demands of video edits, animations, photo edits, and overall demanding media contents. There is flexibility to choose based on your overall needs as this laptop has ram up to 32gb and storage capacity up to 2000 TBs of SSD. The computer is great, the reason I give it a 3 star is due to the multiple issues I’ve experienced causing me to return my first buy. It crashed and over heated on me multiple times. My second computer’s charger stopped working in the first week. I did receive a replacement, the inconvenience and worry that I’ll have another issue later on is my main concern! This product is expensive and I expect it to perform for a reasonable amount of time.
