Customers are enthusiastic about the Surface Dock's ease of use, abundant USB ports, and ability to support multiple monitors. Many appreciate its compact size and compatibility with Surface devices, while also finding the improved connectivity and charging capabilities beneficial. However, some customers find the price to be high and the weight a bit cumbersome. A shorter-than-ideal cable length was also a recurring point of feedback.

Love the fact that it charges while in use. Small footprint so it doesn’t take up much space on my desk.

Best option for surface device docks

As expected, compatibility of this dock with the surface lineup exceeds other alternatives. Has a nice amount of weight and no slide bottom to ensure the dock doesn't move around on you unexpectedly or get pulled off the back of a desk with the weight of wires (cannot same the same of all competing docks). Dock comes with enough slack for the connecting port to allow for just about any reasonable configuration you'd want.

I got this to be able to my bigger monitor sometimes. This was easy to hook up and simple to use. Beware...you need to have a connector to go from VGA to MiniDisplay Port (on older monitors) or HDMI to MiniDisplay Port as it does not come with the dock...which makes having to buy another product just to use this. With that being said, I am happy I'm able to use my larger monitor when I can.

Used to have the old stand up docking station. This functions the same for additional usb ports. Much small and more convenient.

I purchased this to power my surface pro 4 when I'm not traveling and it works great. I do have to reset the power on it each time I return from a road trip or my second display via hdmi isn't recognized. 4 out of 5 stars for that. As mentioned, I have an HDMI external monitor, and USB 3 hub attached. The hub runs ethernet, a third monitor and external wireless kb/mouse. It is the perfect setup!

I connected my Surface Pro 4 Docking Station to my Apple Cinema Display (non thunderbolt). It works great! The picture is beautiful. I also connected my Surface Dock the my network via ethernet. It works great! I have the Microsoft Designer Mouse and Keyboard paired to my Surface for when I dock it. I highly recommend the Docking Station. I don't know if the dock is compatible with the Apple Thunderbolt Display monitor and would like to find out from others.

I've been debating about purchasing this for about a year, but after my AIO suffered a hardware failure, I decided to by the Surface dock to connect my Surface Pro 4 to an external display. After using this setup for a few months, I wish I bought it sooner. I've have had no issues, and having to ability to have a full desktop experience by simply following the same motions as charging my device has been extremely convenient.

Handy Dock for Surface Book

I use this dock with my Surface Book. It is handy. It's nice to be able to have all my USB devices plugged into it, a mini-DisplayPort external monitor, and Gigabit Ethernet. Being able to pop the power cable from the side and take my Surface Book on the go without a ton of unplugging is nice. The only drawback I have with it is the position of some of the ports makes for an awkward position for some of the cables.Other than that, it is really handy to use to extend the usefulness of a Surface Book.

I've purchased 2 of these docks and both have worked without a single issue. All the ports I need and charges my SP6 and Go just as fast as the stand alone chargers. One thing I will say that is a plus for me, but may not be for others is the weight. 1.21 lb, so it feels like a metal block. It's great, because the dock never slides around. However, this may be a downside for people who want to travel with it.

I purchased the dock so I could connect my Surface laptop to multiple screens. Currently it is connected to 2 monitors, computer speakers, and hardwired via ethernet. Now I am able to multitask using Adobe illustrator on two screens while having my email and music on the third monitor all while not having to worry about my wifi dropping. This is a must if you plan to connect to multiple devices!

Sure there are Frankenstein solutions you can piece together for the same result, but this is a must for any Surface Pro user who uses this device as their primary home computer as well. The only drawback is that the cable from the box to the device is short meaning your cables all need to be visible on your desk. I would prefer a longer cable that would allow me to keep the cables under my desk on a shelf out of site.

I like to work with a big monitor, when I am stationed at my desk and not on the go. This dock makes life so much easier as I can literally plug and play my surface book when I am at my desk. Un-docking is a breeze too, just pull the docking cable out and you are good to go. The dock also has options to plug in my external hard drives and connect external speakers using the 3.5 mm audio out.
Note: miniDP (to DP/HDMI) cable needs to be purchased separately.

This is one of two essential add-ons for the Microsoft Surface Book (in my opinion). Since it has a somewhat utilitarian function, it could have been made in a utilitarian way, but I appreciate the fact that they designed it to "go" with the overall feel of the machine. It has plenty of connection points for USB, alternate displays, etc.

I purchased this to install in a DJ rack to connect with my 2017 surface pro. The device outperforms my expectations. My only two critiques are that the cable is definitely not long enough (I don't think Microsoft had my install application in mind when they designed it), and that it lacks FireWire, which would be great for some professional audio desks that still use FW800. Beyond that, it's a very handy device!
