Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the Surface Dock's ease of use, abundant USB ports, and ability to support multiple monitors. Many appreciate its compact size and compatibility with Surface devices, while also finding the improved connectivity and charging capabilities beneficial. However, some customers find the price to be high and the weight a bit cumbersome. A shorter-than-ideal cable length was also a recurring point of feedback.

Great ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT REQUIRMENTs

So, I bought this dock because I wanted to connect my Surface Book to two monitors. However, after so many issues from getting the two monitors to work as they should (screen cut off, screen flickers, etc.) I can say it is a shame to have a $200 dock that can't handle passive DVI cables. To make it work, you will need a relatively new monitor, OR to have an ACTIVE DVI cable, which is a DVI cable with all the pins in it, not half of them as the Passive one, connected to a Mini-Display to DVI adapter to your surface. Hope this helps. Did not try the Ethernet port, so I can't comment on that. The USB 3 ports are good, and there is 4 of them, so that's nice. Now that I knew how to make two screens work, I really like it.

Just got this the other day and have had no issues. I was going to get a new desktop for work, but since I had a Surface Pro 3, I decided to get the dock and a monitor instead. I like having a mobile workstation, and this does the trick.

Better than the old dock, but why still two pieces

I really like this new dock. I thought it was a huge improvement over the old dock. I only wish that they could have consolidated the two pieces into one, so that I didn't have both the dock itself and the separate (and largish) power adapter.

Works good, should have HDMI Output

I'm using this with my Surface Pro 4 and it works really good. The only design change I would like is if it had HDMI or DVI-I video outputs, instead it come s with mini-DVI which means you need to spend more money to buy an adaptor

Love it and using it with my Surface Pro 4... love the built in charger and USB connections... But the best is the 4k video out. Would be 5 stars if it had HDMI out instead of having to buy a display port to HDMI adapter.

Bought an open box excellent condition and it worked flawlessly with two external 24" monitors and the surface display. Not sure what all the complaints about it are.

Buyer Beware, Not Ready for Prime Time!

Very disappointed. If you are purchasing this to hook up 2 external monitors it does not seem possible at this time. Hooking up only 1 monitor seems to work fine but connecting the 2nd causes only the surface pro's screen to display and it just flickers randomly. I am forced to unplug/plug back in the monitor cables in a specific sequence and "sometimes" I can get both monitors displaying. This remains stable only until the surface you powers down or goes in sleep mode. Then it's rinse/repeat to try to get them up and displaying again. I have also found other users online have been experiencing this also (i.e via amazon reviews). Also, it appears the audio jack only supports 2.0 stereo atm. Microsoft Support also verified this. I have a 2.1 Klipsch system so my subwoofer is useless with this dock. For now I just bypass the dock and plug the audio jack into the Surface Pro itself. I may return this and purchase the older surface pro docking station if both of these issues are not rectified soon.

surface dock still a work in progress

I bought this dock to use with a Surface Laptop and Samsung HD monitor (U28E590D) and have experienced some challenging issues that Microsoft has yet to fix. The first one that can be addressed is only certain cables will allow you to achieve the HD resolution. There is a recommended list on Microsoft's site. Second, the dock interferes with the laptop's wireless internet connection. It works fine on the laptop when used on a standalone basis and then as soon as you plug it into the dock the signal is either very weak or you cannot connect at all. The third is that the dock is incompatible with a large list of monitors, including mine. The way this made its appearance for me was that the monitor would never sleep when the computer slept, it just kept flashing on and off. This issue did not happen when plugging the monitor directly into the laptop, bypassing the dock. Microsoft tried to troubleshoot the dock to no avail and replaced it, but the replacement had the same issues. Microsoft has some work to do to make the dock a viable product.

No HDMI ports fo monitor hookup

for the price of a docking station, not having HDMI monitor connections, and having to buy a separate adapter, is ridiculous.... and the battery adapter is huge? just more clutter on a desk. Engineering is pretty poor for a docking station and this is not even their first one....

Hello espo, you can hook up two monitors to the Surface Dock using the 2 Mini DisplayPorts. Mini Display cords sold separately. We hope this was helpful to you. Microsoft

I've purchased 4 of these for my company as well as 3 surface books and 1 surface pro 4. They dock barely remembers monitor setups. It comes loose just by nudging the surface's. Mini DVI ports barely work. Even with 3 in 1 adapters or straight Mini display to HDMI. USB 3.0 to HDMI seems to be the most consistent but even they are have issue with the dock. I've contacted Microsoft and they never responded. All Firmware for surfaces updated. They need to push firmware for these docks.. Every morning its a fight with the docks just to get them to function. Unless I absolutely have to buy these docks I will be avoiding them. Not worth $200.
