Customers are enthusiastic about the Surface Dock's ease of use, abundant USB ports, and ability to support multiple monitors. Many appreciate its compact size and compatibility with Surface devices, while also finding the improved connectivity and charging capabilities beneficial. However, some customers find the price to be high and the weight a bit cumbersome. A shorter-than-ideal cable length was also a recurring point of feedback.

We purchased this docking station to run two 27inch HD ASUS Monitors with our Surface Pro 4 (HDMI mini to HDMI hookup). The docking station is small, efficent and has enough power to run two 4K monitors. The asthetics are pleasing on the glass desk. We are impressed with the performace of this device. Best Buy price matched Amazon on this product which made it even better. Excellent purchase.

I purchased as an Open Box item to have as a spare in my office. The extra USB ports are helpful, but the idea was to plug everything into the dock including extra USB peripherals (keyboard, mouse, printer) as well as a HDMI monitor and have a single input into the Surface via the Surface Port. While the USBs work, the HDMI does not. I still have to plug the monitor into the DVI port separately for it to work.

Turn laptop into desktop

I have monitor, keyboard, mouse, external hard drive all connected, so when I plug in my surface book it becomes a desktop. It works great 99% of the time, but sometimes it has an issue with recognizing the monitor. The problem is resolved with disconnecting the power to the dock and reconnecting. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. Overall, I'm glad I purchased it and really like how it adds functionality to my surface book.

Sleek, solid, does the job - Enhances connectivity

Sleek, solid and does the job.
Enhances connectivity options a whole lot! Magnetic charging point is quite strong; soon as you bring close to laptop, pulls itself into snap fit.
Point of caution to ensure product longevity - joint where cable goes into brick is not very sturdy. Careful not to wind the cable around brick (when packing into laptop bag) too tight as repeated bending could possibly break the wires inside!!

Has 4 USB ports so you are not limited in any way from connecting to a wide range of external USB devices. I used the dock to resucitate family photos that were orphaned on an old external storage that required 2 USB connections to work correctly. Connected an external monitor to this dock as well. The dock will need an "active" adapter to function correctly.

Hi Nick,
Backing up old files can be challenging, especially when they are on even older storage devices. We're so glad to hear you were able to back up those valuable family photos! Thanks for leaving a little information about your experience using the Surface Dock.

Great addition to my desk, makes my external monitors work perfectly and makes swapping my Surface in and out a breeze with just one cable to connect. While I do highly recommend this for all Surface users, especially those wanting to have external monitors), I do have a few complaints.
The only complaints I would have:
1) this is ridiculously expensive (I mean, come on, it is a power cord, video ports, and some USBs) for what it is. I totally feel this should cost $125 at most, preferably $99.
2) it is heavy, a brick for the dock and another one for the power? You couldn't fit it all into a single brick? Seems like an engineering failure to me. You will not want to travel with the docking station.

Monitor issues

I don't know if it is the video card in the Surface Pro 4, the Hub or the actual monitor - but I often have to change display settings to "display only on computer 1" then switch it back to "extend these settings" to get my external monitor to work. Other than that, I appreciate the audio and external USB ports and the magnetic cable that connects to the Surface is an improvement on the power connection in earlier versions.

A Must Have For Surface Owners

I love the Surface dock! I bought the dock in order to add an additional screen to my Surface. There are two mini display ports, so I had to buy a mini display to HDMI adapter. I have the dock sitting on my desk, and I love having easy access to the USB ports. The Surface connector cable has ample length to hookup to your Surface.

This dock helps me out so much! It not only charges my SURFACE, but the addl USB's helps me out a lot. It allows me to charge phones and not have to keep pulling out my USB from my actual Surface! I can add my earphones and I never even knew about the split screen option, if I order another part. I LOVE LOVE this!! It helps me be more efficient!

Bought this to keep from wearing out the ports on my computer. Although it's a little pricey, but given that I hope to keep the computer for several years, I figured it was worth the investment, plus, if since there was a good chance I might be getting another surface computer in the future, well...that makes getting one even worth it all the more.

I love my Microsoft Surface Book. I commute between part-time jobs, home and vacation home. With all the flat screen monitors and printers I have purchased over the years I have a complete setup at every location. This portable docking station is perfect to utilize all the USB equipment I have. I would definitely buy another and it would make a great gift for someone.

Better USB ports than on Surface Book

I got this because I knew I would need an extra USB port for a printer that had to be setup via cable. It turned out to be a one of the best accessories and I find myself using it more than I thought I would have because it has features I was not aware of :
- It is a power cord itself and is a longer cord than the original one supplied with the SurfaceBook. This is valuable for times when you must charge your battery but need a little extra distance to an outlet!
- The USB ports are safer to use than on the Surface Book itself. By this I mean that the USB ports on my book are tight and to eject a USB cable takes some umph; on most desktop surfaces if the laptop is not braced just so with the other hand it will go flying (slide) off the desk when you remove a flash drive or iPhone cable. I much prefer to use the dock where plugging in/out is a no brainer and will not potentially harm my laptop.
Dock has other ports for uses besides the USB but I have not used them so I cannot comment on that functionality.

Connected 2 monitors to the dock to create a docking station for a regular road warrior. Performance and ease of connection are awesome, but communication to the monitors is inconsistent. Depending on the day, when you connect the MSBook it will read 2 or 3 monitors in different configurations each time. With the kinks it is still so simple that it makes the selection easy.

I use my Surface Pro 4 at Home, at the office and occasionally on the road. Having the Surface dock at work has eliminated the need to carry my power supply every day. It's worked perfectly since day 1 and proven to be a reliable connection to power, cat5 ethernet, and an external monitor. Next to the Microsoft snap on keyboard, it's the best accessory you can get!

If you are using your surface pro a lot and using multiple flash drives, this is a must buy. Since the surface pro only comes with one USB port, you really need a dock to expand your capability. Plus with the charging component, you can quickly transfer what you need and charge the pro.
