Customers are enthusiastic about the Surface Dock's ease of use, abundant USB ports, and ability to support multiple monitors. Many appreciate its compact size and compatibility with Surface devices, while also finding the improved connectivity and charging capabilities beneficial. However, some customers find the price to be high and the weight a bit cumbersome. A shorter-than-ideal cable length was also a recurring point of feedback.

Thanks for describing your experience using the Surface Dock with a non-Surface device. Although we do not support compatibility for the chromebook you mentioned, we hope you continue to get such great use out of it. The Surface Dock is officially supported with Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, Surface Book 2, Surface Book, Surface Pro 4, and Surface Pro 3.

IF you connect to more than 1 monitor or Ethernet then you will want this and NEED this. Super compact, really easy to use, great with multiple monitors. This is a must to have on your desktop if you have a monitor. Magnetic power connects without having to see and align the plug and there are USB ports as well as multiple monitor ports available For me this is a NEED and it is has proven to be a great tool.

Note this is NOT the former Surface Pro "docking station". It is instead two bricks connected by a cord; one being the transformer and the other being the dock itself. The dock has a non-skid bottom that stabilizes it on desktops and facilitates plugging in accessories and staying in place where you put it. Has many inputs and outputs, including several USB 3.0 ports sufficient to simultaneously run external drives and to charge devices such as mobile phones (charges them fast too!).

It's very convenient, especially I can fold it and put it in my small messenger bag, which wouldn't be possible for the old one. I have to say it's kind of heavier than what I expected, but I like the how they the USB and other connections, I wish they would have included other connections like VGA and hdml.

This product makes life simple if you want to have a second monitor. One-time set up which is not complicated and you simply pull out your Surface Pro and attach to the dock and your set. Your Pro remains charged and you get the option of a second screen. Plus you can attach a mouse to the dock for more convenience.

The Surface Dock is the only reason I purchased the Surface. I enjoyed the idea of having a laptop/tablet combo, but I wanted something that I could use as a desktop too. The Surface Dock allows me to run my Surface with a keyboard, mouse, speakers, my printer, and two Dell Ultrasharp monitors. I even have some USB 3.0 ports left over!

I left the original power supply for my SP3 at a friends house and could not retrieve for a few days. Needless to say I was lost without my tablet for a couple of days. I decided that I would purchase a spare power supply to have at home. When I searched here at BestBuy I saw that the surface dock was in stock, so I placed my order to pick up in store. Picked up my order with no issues and haven't looked back since. I am very satisfied with my purchase. This dock gives me the spare power supply that I wanted. On top of it I get additional ports to supplement the few ports found on the SP3, while still having use of the ports on the tablet. The Ethernet port works great. I get 400-500mbps up/down regularly, depending on network traffic; wi-fi is considerably less, as to be expected. Only negative I would say is the size and weight. It is not a problem for me and suits my needs since it stays at home.

So i purchased a surface book 2 and really wanted to use this in my home office as a way to have my surface book 2 setup so that it's out of the way and i can use a regular mouse, keyboard, and monitor. This surface dock does this for me perfectly.
Plugged into this dock is 1 USB hub, another usb device for 3rd party software, speakers in the 3.5mm port, and the mini displayport i have a converter to hdmi and my monitor plugged into it. It's great..
The only thing i have to now plug into my surface book when i come into my home office is the dock adapter which goes into the charging port on the surface book 2. This is great because when i need to take it with me, i only have to unplug 1 thing and then walk away.. No longer do i need to unplug multiple devices..
Very happy with this purchase!

With this dock I have 4 more USB prots, 2 DP ports and 1 LAN port. It makes everything more flexible. I really like its small size design since it won't take too much space on you desk. Till now it always works flawlessly not like the dell dock I use in the work.

I have had a bunch of coworkers have issues with the old surface 3 dock. I was first skeptical of not really putting the surface into something, but the new dock is smaller, no noise, and has more ports. I also seem to have far fewer issues with multiple screens.

I love the fact that this has so many options with one simple plug-in to your Surface. You can add 4 USB Hard Drives, 2 monitors, head-phones or external sound source. I use the Surface on the road most of the time and then when I come home simply connect the power source from the dock to my Surface and VOILA! I have a nice home computer with monitor (I also use a Surface Pro wireless keyboard and a Logitech wireless mouse).
Microsoft has become Apple-like innovative in it's Surface computers and accessories.
Some talk about the weight of the dock, but I love it. Has a quality feel and don't have to anchor it to the desk like cheap lightweight usb hubs.
Had it about a month and it has so far performed flawlessly.

This is a good dock dedicated to the surface lineup. I used this with the 15 in surface book 2. I was somewhat disappointed. I used this dock with a 4K monitor. In most cases it worked fine, but when I used this for gaming it would either blank out ever 5-10 seconds, or I would get a horrible delay (0.5 s or so) depending on what settings I chose. I am not sure if that was more of a Surface dock or Surface book issue, so I am not docking this review too hard. Other than that, it seemed to work great, it has all the ports you need.
This dock only connects with the surface connect port. That is a double edge sword. On one hand by using the surface connect port, it leaves your other ports available (such as the USB-C on the surface book 2), but on the other, you won't be able to use it with any non-surface device (such as a work computer).

Hi there,
It's great to hear that you've been a fan of the Surface Dock with your Surface Book 2! It sounds like you may need to double-check that your firmware is up-to-date on your Surface Dock, and this should help with some of the lagging, etc, you've been experiencing.
Feel free to give that a try, and contact us at [email protected], if you need any assistance.

I have purchased several of these docks for Surface 3s, 4s, and Books. It works well with minor annoyances:
1) It requires updating, which must be done manually.
2) As with all Surface oriented things, it ONLY has DisplayPorts not HDMI or VGA. This makes it inconvenient for use with standard monitors because you must also use adapters.
3) Occassionally the external monitors turn off for a few seconds then come back. I have not been able to determine why this happens - I just end up waiting a few seconds and everything then works again. The laptop goes through several chimes like the monitors are being physically disconnected then reconnected again. This happens occasionally at least once or twice a week and lasts for a few seconds.
Overall, it is a good dock and it is very convenient to have a single magnetic cord to attach to the Surface.

The surface doesn't have an Ethernet port, which made it difficult--I had to buy a USB converter just to have a wired connection. And on top of that, I lost 1 of 2 USB ports. With the dock, all of that is built in and the wired connection is more efficient and I even got extra USB ports too. It connect via the power adapter, so I was able to run my computer in a high performance setting. It is heavy and it is actually 2 blocks, one for power conversion and the other for the docking ports. I feel the pros outweigh the cons on this, being that eliminated the need for all of my various adapters and provided me with extra USB ports.

I got this for my Surface Book. This is very useful, and it's great to have a home charger in addition to the "travel" charger that comes with the laptop. It's also really nice to have extra USB ports. I don't know why they went with display port instead of VGA or HDMI.
None of the pictures show it, but it comes with a power adapter cord, which is like a conventional laptop cord with a figure-8 AC cord and a transformer brick which then plugs into the doc. It would be super cool if the dock had the transformer built into it so that it would use just need the figure-8 AC cord instead of being in two pieces.
It's also pretty expensive for what it is. I should have got a USB3 port replicator for like half the price.
I wouldn't recommend it because there's better options available at this point.

I bought this dock mostly to have an additional charger for my SP4 and for the additional usb 3 ports. I have not tried attaching external monitors to it.
Also, the power supply is heavy and almost as big as the dock itself. I would say this is not meant to be carried around with your Surface.
It does what I want it to do but like everything Surface Pro 4 related it is expensive.

The Surface Dock probably isn't a must-have accessory, but it's an elegant solution for attaching a Surface device to a monitor and other peripherals. I love the ease with which I can switch from mobile computing to a full desktop environment by simply inserting the magnetic charging cable. I have a Surface Pro and Surface Laptop which I use on the go, and connecting them to my office or warehouse setups is effortless. You can most likely accomplish similar connectivity with an array of cords and adaptors, but no other solution will be as simple and seamless as the Surface Dock.
