Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the Surface Dock's ease of use, abundant USB ports, and ability to support multiple monitors. Many appreciate its compact size and compatibility with Surface devices, while also finding the improved connectivity and charging capabilities beneficial. However, some customers find the price to be high and the weight a bit cumbersome. A shorter-than-ideal cable length was also a recurring point of feedback.

    Works great

Adds some much needed I/O to a device with limited ports. Plug in 2 additional monitors, 4 additional USB 3.0 devices, ethernet, and speakers, all through a single cord and while charging the device (everything connects through the power cord!). So you effectively get an extra charger out of it, too. Quality is top-notch. It's weighted, has a non-slip base, and comes w/ an A/C cable. All that said, unless you plan on using the added functionality, it's value might vary. I don't think it's worth the $199 retail. However, I was able to snag it for under $99, which I feel is much more in-line with what it's worth.

A Must Have For Surface Products

I am going to recommend this product, based on the fact that it works as advertised and does a pretty good job. It's nice to be able to put this on my desk and have one cable power, and also connect to a second monitor and any other peripherals that you need. The reason I am giving this 4 out of 5 stars just because I feel for the price I am essentially buying back my ports that should have been included on the surface line. I truly appreciate the magsafe connection that is included on the surface products, however I think that a thunderbolt 3 or is something they should have and could have incorporated into the products. I would almost bet that next year you will see the inclusion of Thunderbolt into the new surface products, however, I also hope they keep their surface connector that way I can keep using this dock and it isn't rendered useless. I do appreciate the surface connector as it acts kind of like Magsafe, so if someone tripped over your power cord, the device won't go flying across the room and possibly breaking. The device is a little bit on the larger side, but if you have a decent sized desk you should be able to tuck it away behind a monitor or on the back corner of your desk no problems. The device works, but one star taken away is simply for the fact that I am not thrilled that this is essentially the only dock with this much functionality that I can use. Otherwise great job Microsoft, I am a huge fan of your surface line. Great products.

    Great Docking Station

As a long-time Surface Pro user, I finally broke down and bought a docking station. I travel a lot for work, so when I would be home I would have to hook up adapters for the monitor and multiple USB ports for external HD and other accessories. The dock makes it SO easy to be able to leave everything hooked up to the dock and all I have to do is hook up the Surface Pro to the dock adapter (basically the power plug) and I'm up and running! Also, I wanted to note that I've used the dock on both the Surface Pro 3 and the new Surface Pro (2017); works the same on both.

I bought two of these - one for work, one for home. The one at work functions perfectly and is a dream to use. The one at home sometimes connects, has the light on to show it's working, but is not in fact charging my computer (though the connection to other devices works). The only clue I have about this is when I get the notification that I'm down to 6% power on my laptop. Quite disturbing. I've taken to checking carefully when I sign on and periodically looking at my battery indicator to make sure that I'm actually charging my laptop rather than draining my battery. Other than that, I love the connectivity (the new magnetic connectors are great) and the ease of use.

Good USB and peripheral port additions

Bought this based on the reviews, and since it was an open box and a lower price, I figured I could use another charging dock for home as well as one for the road. I rather enjoy having more USB options available to connect to my Surface-- it does make life easier and nicer or charging and peripheral options. I will agree with other reviewers that it is a bit strange to have a block attached to another block that's attached to the Surface, but at least it provides some distance from the power plug, and there isn't a massive amount of weight hanging off of the side of the Surface.

Yes it’s probably a bit over priced, but the fact it’s completely compatible to the surface pro 4 as well as sleek was the primary reason I purchased. Docks are typically bulky this little rectangular device fits perfectly on top of the foot of my dual monitor stand. So it takes up 0 usable space. It has a rubber bottom so it stays in place. It also is solid which is rare in Devices now a days. Meaning it’s got weight to it and it doesn’t feel like my fingers are going to puncture the plastic.

This docking station has been a lifesaver in my home office. I can hook up my second monitor, mouse, keyboard and still have additional usb ports for other accessories that I may have for my Surface Pro4. The great part is everything stays connected to the docking station and I only have to remove one plug for portability. Then when I return to my office, just one plug back into my Surface Pro. Awesome!!!!

I bought this for my Surface Pro 4, it works great and all I have to do is snap the connector onto my Surface to get connected and pull it off when I'm ready to hit the road. You get display port, USB, network, and power all in one simple connection. I have one at home and one at work so I can easily connect to work and disconnect to go. My original power cord is just in case I am somewhere else. I have a case on my Surface so the other dock station doesn't work for me.

This is the second Surface Dock I picked up. The first one I got for my office, and it worked so well, I decided to get a second for home. Everything works just as described, and it is the very definition of plug and play. If I had to pick one thing that could be an improvement, it would be that the cable that links the dock to the Surface could stand to be a little longer. Even that though, is negligible. I highly recommend picking this item up to go with your Surface Pro!

We purchased along with our college daughter’s 13.5” Microsoft Laptop. Hook it up and you have basically turned laptop into Desktop in order to have more USB ports, another monitor, larger keyboard & mouse...just one plug into laptop and all the convenience of a desktop setup - allows the convenience of working on a larger keyboard & additinal/larger monitor. It’s worth the price for the convenience, She loves it!

This docking station is heavy but offers many ports for attaching accessories. This allowed me to add four USB-based accessories to my Surface Pro 4. This docking station has many other ports that I don't use as much. It is heavy but usually stays put at my desk. For portability purposes, use the included power block. The Surface Pro 4 already has one USB port and the included power block adds an additional USB port. But for more than 2 USB ports, pay for this handy docking station.

Very good docking solution with a few caveats

If you are in the Microsoft Surface ecosystem, you probably will want to have a surface dock. It's by far the best docking solution for my surface book 2. I have one for my home and one for my office. It features 4-usb 3.0 ports, 2 mini-displayports, audio out and a gigabit network connection. It connects via the Surface Connect magnetic connector, so this is not a general-purpose PC device. It's still a robust solution, allowing you to transform a mobile Surface tablet, laptop or Surface Book into a desktop in seconds. There are a few things that keep this from a five star review: 1. The Surface Dock power supply delivers only 90 watts - less than the Surface Book 2 can draw under full load. 2. The dock will support a 4K monitor at 60 fps, but if you have two monitors plugged in this drops to 30 fps. 3. There are no usb-c ports. Hopefully Microsoft will release an updated surface dock to solve these problems, but until then the existing dock is still a good docking solution.

Size is great, no more attaching laptop to actual dock. Connects easily, charges while connected so no need for carrying charger can leave at home for use. Purchased to allow for additional monitors to be used with laptop. Easy to use and set up. Price was higher than other merchandisers, Best Buy associate pulled up competitors price and marched. Great customer service.

The Surface Dock is great and easy to use. You may have to update the firmware initially. The update is easy, and Microsoft provides a guide to do so. Dock has allowed me to extend my desktop on an additional monitor. I love the headphone out on the dock which allows me to use the dock almost as an interface between a stereo. Dock greatly improves productivity with the addition of the extra monitor!

This little box made life so much easier. Instead of plugging up 4-5 different cords to connect my surface to a larger screen to play video games, I now only have to plug this guy in. Not only does it charge my surface, but it's got literally everything I could need. It's worth the money and I'm about to buy another one for my boyfriend since it's so great. No doubt, best product I've bought in the last year.

Works easily. Just plugged in and everything simply worked (which is all too uncommon these days). Using w/ a KVM switch so that I can have one mouse, keyboard, and monitor for two separate computers. This dock is for the Surface and I love how easily the magnetized connection hooks up everything in a quick snap. Highly recommend.

Does exactly what it advertises. I has all the port listed, goes further than last gen with moving/sliding parts and now just same cable as standard charger to connect to ipad. Is heavy but small foorprint which is perfect for hiding on a desk workspace. ... i feel ALL docks are overpriced but cost of this lines up with docks for latitude laptops so... thats the free market i guess.

The Surface Book is truly an amazing piece of engineering. The only thing I was missing was a few more ports when I use mine at my desk. The Microsoft Surface Dock is perfect for that, adding four USB3 ports, digital audio and two MiniDisplayPorts. Magnetic attachment to the Surface Book makes for quick detaching/reattaching. A bit heavy for portable use, but the dock is perfect at my desk!
