Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the Surface Dock's ease of use, abundant USB ports, and ability to support multiple monitors. Many appreciate its compact size and compatibility with Surface devices, while also finding the improved connectivity and charging capabilities beneficial. However, some customers find the price to be high and the weight a bit cumbersome. A shorter-than-ideal cable length was also a recurring point of feedback.

This is almost a must have if you have a Microsoft Surface. It adds ports and allows you to connect 2 external monitors, effectively transforming your tablet into a high performance workstation

I have not used this unit yet, but it is well made of substantial materials. The unit has all the ports and interfaces that you need and is heavy enough with a rubber base, so that it will not go sliding off your desk. As with most of Microsoft's products, it is overpriced.

I'm a college student and left my original surface charger at home one weekend before coming back to school. I was in need of a replacement charger so I went to Best Buy. IMO, a charger+a few usb ports is NOT worth $200 but hey it got the job done and now I have plenty of usb ports!

The purpose of a dock/docking station is to allow a portable computer (notebook or tablet) to be used with productivity-enhancing devices, such as full-size keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer, additional USB ports, and power source, while minimizing the amount of cables that must be connected/disconnected each time the computer is moved. The Surface dock achieves this, but you will likely need a special "Active HDMI" cable to allow your monitor to work. Very few monitors will work when connected to the dock with a standard HDMI to mini-display cable. Microsoft should have made the dock work without needing the special cable or should have included it with the dock. After getting the active cable, now only one cable must be connected/disconnected when using the table as a tablet instead of 3 or 4. It would be nice if Microsoft would start making products RIGHT instead of "close enough."

This is a great item to add when putting your Surface Pro in a desktop environment. (2) cables connected to the surface adds lots of peripherals - monitor, iPhone charging cable, full size keyboard, etc... Even better when found on sale!

Microsoft finally released a different form factor and it works great and is compatible with the Surface line. It works great with the Surface Book. You got all the USB and video ports you need to plug your monitor, USB devices and such.

This is a phenomenal purchase. It provides the surface with 4 additional USB 3.0 ports for a total of 5. The magnetic charge plug seems stronger than what comes with the surface. It's a bit heavy to lug around everywhere though.

Got the dock with my new Surface Book. I must say I like the new design. Compared to the more traditional dock on my Surface Pro 2 it's smaller, and sits apart from the laptop affording me more space for the computer itself on the desk.

I take my Surface book on the road a lot, and it is great for that. However, in my home, I prefer the extra real estate that an additional monitor, or two, can offer me. No issues connecting, and the convenience of having a single cable is amazing.

The dock nicely designed in two parts - the ac/dc transformer which can rest on the floor, and the docking part that sits on the desk - it has all the basic ports you need. The dock goes in through the power connector.

Perfect for taking the Surface Pro on the go or connecting 2 monitors for a workstation. When plugging back in after mobile use sometimes you have to restart the surface for the dock to connect, otherwise it is plug and play.

    Nice Add-on for the Surface

The Surface Dock is a nice add-on for any Surface device using the proprietary power interface. I've used my dock with a Surface Pro and a Surface Laptop without issues. I use it primarily for dual external monitors and wired Ethernet. The Dock charges my Surface Pro at the same time it provides those connections, which is very convenient. The Dock also allowed me to overcome a bus power issue with using an external DVD reader. When connecting it to the built-in USB port on my Surface Pro, the reader would initialize but spin down and would not work (I think it's a voltage issue). When I plug that same DVD reader into a USB port on the Surface Dock, the device works as expected.

this 1st part accessories sure is expensive. Had to get other cables for the display because it uses mini display ports. It works as intended. My only gripe is that they improve on combining the charging brick and dock.

This connects everything to my Surface Pro 4. When I get home I just connect the docking station to my Surface Pro and everything is connected. I like it better than the old Surface Pro 3 docking station because I don't have to have the Surface Pro in the upright position. When I use Photoshop it is nice to be able to lay it flat and use the pen. Another advantage it that all of the wires are back and out of the way so all I have is the one connection wire. The reason I gave it only 4 stars is because the micro display port is different on the docking station than on the Surface Pro. From what I have read that will be fixed with a firmware update at some point but I don't think it has happened yet. The display is fine when connected to the surface pro but when on the dock the video works but it is not as good. I tried a different display port adaptor with the same results.

    Surface Dock Details

I purchased this product for my Surface book pro. This dock is actually two bricks, kind of an upstairs and downstairs. Downstairs is the typical power brick with a small cord that plugs into the electric outlet, the upstairs part is what plugs into the surface and has Ethernet, USB, dual videos Initially I thought I would use it as a replacement charger but the two bricks design is really bulky so that's out. Also wanted to run dual video monitors but the standard micro HD to HDMI cable while working on the surface directly did not produce video on the Surface Dock. After a ton of research I found that I'd you need active mini HD to HDMI and that works great. So it does what it is supposed to do,Gig Ethernet, USB 3.0 ports and Video. Just not portable, and beware of video cable issues. Certainly room for improvement but it works as advertised.

I was worried about buying this because I saw a lot of bad reviews online. I almost didn't buy my surface laptop because this dock has such a bad reputation, but that has not been my experience. The dock works. It charges the computer, has two monitor ports (for which you'll probably need an adapter for mini-display to hdmi), an Ethernet port, headphones/speakers, and plenty of USB type As. The cord that connects to your computer is super durable, flexible, and magnetic. My only complaints are probably software related. Sometimes it switches which screen is left and right and sometimes it doesn't dock or takes a few tries. When I leave it docked for several days, that kind of stuff doesn't happen very much.

The Surface Dock works very well, the only reason it doesn't get five stars is it is overpriced. I bought this one from BestBuy as an Open Box, saving about $40 and it's still overpriced. However, it is well designed and functional.
