Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the Surface Dock's ease of use, abundant USB ports, and ability to support multiple monitors. Many appreciate its compact size and compatibility with Surface devices, while also finding the improved connectivity and charging capabilities beneficial. However, some customers find the price to be high and the weight a bit cumbersome. A shorter-than-ideal cable length was also a recurring point of feedback.

2nd Version of this Dock - Actually works great!

Bought 2 of these Docks (which were "version 1") as soon as Microsoft made them available for purchase. Both Docks were dropping the network and all USB connections - like those items were all unplugged at once and then plugged right back in all at once - this would take place in intervals of between 5 and 20 minutes all day long. "Version 2" of these Docks work great - no issues. Version 1 dock has a white led light on the spine of the connector when plugged into the Surface Pro 3 or 4. "Version 2" of this dock had a larger connector and the white led light is on one of the flat sides of the connector.

The docking station makes unplugging from power very easy. Never have to worry about forgetting my charger when I travel. Also provides extra USB ports that I use often. Easy to attach and easy to use.

Great gadget. It is easy to set up and relatively small. The Surface Dock also acts as a power supply for the Surface Pro 4. So I did not need to purchase a back up power supply cord.

Turns your Surface into a desktop (with a large monitor attached and extended display), and provides much needed USB ports for a Surface lacking such ports. Only hangup is that after a week, it stopped working (wouldn't project to the monitor), but after some patient time on the phone with MS Support, they were able to walk me through an update of the software for the docking station, so if you buy this, make sure to use the Surface Dock Updater to get the most up-to-date software for the dock. (Who knew that the dock itself needed software?)

A must have to connect accessories

The surface dock is an absolute must have if you need to connect accessories via USB to the Surface Book since there is not that many ports on the SB. The dock will give you additional ports and I also found they are not as tight to use so when you go to remove the USB cord you won't feel as though you are going to send your Book flying across the desk! I use the dock to keep my printer hooked up by USB since I cannot print over wifi due to metered internet. It is also handy for plugging in an external disc reader and my iPhone when necessary. It can be used to hook up to external monitors too. This will serve as your power cable and is a longer cord than the original power one supplied with the laptop.

    Pricey But Effective

With a walk-out-the-door price of over $200, I thought long and hard before buying the name-sake docking station. I was not impressed, and am still not impressed, with the absence of an HDMI port (yes, I know there is a mini-HDMI on the Surface Pro but it is still not the same as a real life, honest to goodness HDMI port that common sense alone says should be included). But it is certainly nice to unplug one cord (that has a magnetic attachment feature) on the right side of the screen that works flawlessly, before exiting quickly with Surface Pro in hand. And the docking station both looks and feels sturdy and substantial. So I will live with the design flaws and be thankful that it appears capable of outliving most other products of its type.

Overpriced, as is most of the Surface product line and related accessories. Much like Apple products, it could be argued you're paying for the "bling" factor. I purchased this for a Surface Go, the slowest most pokey and frequently unresponsive computer I've ever owned. I refer to the Go as "My Pretty Potato." The dock generally works as advertised, though the lack of HDMI ports is quite disappointing, as is the lack of microSD or SD slots in the port. Unfortunately, this is one of the few ways to connect various things to a Surface at the same time without going with a 3rd party USB-C to A hub of some sort. The charging / connecting cable is also extremely short (three feet, tops?), perhaps to eliminate clutter for using on a desk, but making the dock unusable in almost any other usage scenario. This is far from an ideal solution for folks who need the various options to connect other devices (like a USB A memory stick to do Windows updates, for example), but there weren't many better alternatives out there when purchased.
