There are other options that don't cost $200 and have the capacity of connecting more peripherals without being so bulky. Besides buying this dock, you would need to buy two other HDMI adapters to connect to two other displays (that's if you have the need to do so) that each cost $35 dollars a piece. When you add up all that, you will end paying what you have paid for the monitors alone.

My two external monitors won't always come up if the surface is on when I connect it to the dock. So i put the surface book to sleep first before I connect it to the dock seems to work better.

Do an Internet search and you will find plenty of post referencing issues with these. MS has claimed a firmware update for them is on the way that should fix the issues though.

I’m using 2 FHD monitors Mini Disoplay Port to HDMI.. but the Dock wasn’t working with both.. So i had to trouble shoot and finally i found a comment in a forum, describing the same proble.. FIRMWARE Update. After that ir worked fine. I returned it 4 days after purchase with the Microsoft Laptop Surface 2 Black. It had a hardware problem and after troubleshooting with Microsoft they told me to replace it. Sooo.. i replaced everything with a MacBook Pro. 45 Minutes and i was working again.

I love that I can plug my extra monitor and external speakers into the dock. They are immediately recognized when I insert the connector to the surface. Very convenient when wanting to take the surface and use as a laptop then simply plug it back in and shares the screen effortlessly. The only problem I've had was been when plugging USB cables into the front port. Once in awhile this makes things go haywire. The best solution I've found is to reboot.

Got it for my Surface Book 2 and it's the buggiest thing ever. You have to go through all these machinations when resuming from sleep to get it to work fine, even after I updated to the latest firmware. Also, if you have a 4k display, you are limited to 60 hz. Connecting an external monitor to the SB2 is highly disappointing due to the lack of TB3 in the computer/dock. Microsoft needs to drop their proprietary connector and join the world with USB-C/TB3. Just having USB-C 3.1 isn't enough.
