Seems like an ordinary laptop at premium price. $999 for 128GB version and no Thunderbolt 3, no fingerprint reader, not especially light and thin, not a 4K, not a great battery life.
I have seen recently Lenovo X1 Carbon on sale for the same $999 that had i7, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, weighing 2.1 lb and with 18 hours of battery life. THAT's a good value.

I just bought this for school. I like the style and the feel, but I've been having some problems with it. First off it gets over heated very quickly even when doing small things. It also has a VERY LOUD FAN. The fan doesn't really seem to help cool down the computer though because the fan runs for long periods of time. Also, the battery. The battery runs out very fast. It might just be because I am on zoom all day, but I have noticed it runs out and charges very fast. Overall, I am very upset about the fan because it says here that there is no fan. It is very loud and annoying and I paid over $1000 for this computer.

I really loved this laptop but I had to replace the motherboard three years in and now it died so I’m looking to purchase a new one. I loved that it’s touchscreen but most places don’t want to repair because it’s like having a tablet.

It worked very well for a couple of years and then suddenly the motherboard failed out of nowhere. It was shutting off unexpectedly and not functioning at all.

Sound is unbearable. And laptop getting hot very soon and paid around $1000 for this kind of service is unacceptable

Not a good computer for students

Was a very nice laptop right after purchasing! After roughly a year, the battery life turned terrible. It dies within 45 minutes of usage, and even quicker if using a platform like zoom. So, I can’t use it during lectures, or it dies after one class. The safety grips on the bottom fell off right away, so it scratched easily and right away. I’ve had to order 4 new charger in 3 years because the cord breaks off of the box.

Awesome computer for basic functions. Tried some advanced excel work on here and this processor couldn’t handle it. The charger also died after 14 months which was pretty disappointing. Would recommend for basic computing though.

Support sucks, common screen isssues

I love this device, it is beautifully designed. However, it's support is absolutely horrible.
I have a flickering screen, and I can't get it fixed for almost 5 months now. Soon my warranty will expire and I will have to just simply buy a new devices.
They require to send the device somewhere, without any temporary replacement. I am a student. I use laptop 12 hours per day. What am I supposed to do? wait for two weeks until they try to fix it without a temporary replacement?
They don't have an in person service centers in Greater Boston Area. Actually in the entire Massachussets.
Sorry, but I am loosing patience here.
HP and Dell would have sent a replacement already
Waiting on line for 2 hours and no one picks up
chatting for hours on the support chat, and problem isn't resolved.
Also I recommended this device to my friends, and they purchased it. They have the same issue. The backlight of the display is flickering, constantly.
Sorry, but support sucks.
I have no idea what to do. Helpless here.

Not for personal use

Bought this computer over the summer and here are my thoughts:
Poor construction especially for the price - slight dings to the edges leave permanent dents, and the act of opening the laptop has left the soft bit around my keyboard peeling up (why wouldn't you put a notch to lift the lid??)
Frustrating to use - some steps backward in design since I last owned a Windows laptop. The charger is a little slit on a diagonal surface so I have to maneuver every time I want to plug it in, this seems dumb but when I'm sitting in bed and need lights on to plug in my computer it gets annoying. Also the screen auto-adjusts contrast without an option to turn it off. I thought it was brightness but I have since locked the brightness to not auto-adjust and it's still changing on me. Imagine trying to watch a video but every time the background has brighter colors the entire screen flashes more intense contrast. Also the right click aspect to the track pad has the most minute little area for it to work, months in I still need to look down at the pad to make sure I'm in the VERY bottom right when right clicking on something.
Crashes non-Windows browsers - I tend to use the Chrome browser, but often when opening a gif or video the entire browser screen goes black. This has been happening since day 1, but lately it has also been logging me out of my school's lectures as it does this, which is what prompted me to write this review.
I'm sure this is a wonderful laptop to keep in a briefcase and plug into an HDMI adapter to show PowerPoints at work, but for personal use and wear-and-tear this is not the laptop for you. Kicking myself for losing the receipt.

Dead laptop

Do not recommend. Had laptop for 2.5 years. Laptops dead. Best Buy cannot repair. Must return to Microsoft to repair. 300 dollars just to put in service call and then have to pay for parts. Too much money to only last 2.5 years. Would not buy another Microsoft laptop. Best Buy not allowed to repair.

Bought this laptop February 2020, at first it worked good really liked it. Fast forward a year and a half now it won't turn on, doesn't work anymore sent a order request to Microsoft and it'll be 300 to fix. My MacBook of 4 plus years still works fine.

I bought this at Best Buy last November it worked fine for 5 months then starting having issues with software.
And escalating issues too.many to mention. Then in April 1st of this year it would not turn on any longer I returned it to Microsoft they in return sent me a refurbished model which lasted for 24 hours until that turned into a paperweight would not turn on this of course is after they took a $980 deposit on the second laptop that they sent out to me now I have to return the 3rd with another deposit after waiting for refund on the 2nd one then i have to call back again to give another deposit and get another exchange this whole process has just been terrible I will never buy a Microsoft product again. They will not send new device back until 3rd return justkeep sending refurbished units

BSOD Daily

This laptop has a lot of neat design features. The feature you’ll see most often is the BSOD w/ stop codes. After troubleshooting with Microsoft, resetting, and reimagining I could not get this PC to work. I ended up returning it. The build I had was AMD Ryzen 7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. I exchanged for a Dell XPS 15. *Fingers Crossed*

Awful--don't purchase!

I purchased a Surface Laptop 3 just 16 months ago and it already needs a motherboard replacement. It's out of warranty and Microsoft wants to charge me $300 just to send it in and make me agree to any "additional charges for parts & replacement." There's no phone number--all "support" is online and tough to navigate through. Not even an online chat that's helpful! This was not a cheap laptop. I will never purchase a Microsoft product again! These are also virtually impossible to repair...FYI! You have to tear the keyboard off, etc.

Spend the extra $200 and buy a Mac

Waste of time and money. Worked great for about 10 months. Then petered out. I only used it to work remotely, never did anything strenuous. Had to factory reset it twice. Then it stopped taking a charge. Now I’m 5 months outside the warranty and Microsoft wants me to run a troubleshoot program on a computer that won’t even turn on. Full of more bug than swamp. Absolutely disgraceful.
