The Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 is an excellent choice for various tasks. We have a mixed technology home with products from all sorts of manufacturers and operating systems. This laptop has been an excellent addition to the collection. I decided on the Ice Blue The first stand out to me was the keyboard. I am so impressed with how comfortable it is with what they call Alcantara material. It is hard to describe, but it has a cloth like feel to it and is really comfortable to the touch. It is more comfortable than any other laptop keyboard I have used. The metal of the chassis does not dig into my wrists and when typing for a while and it doesn’t make me feel like taking frequent brakes. The machine is light at under three pounds and since it has a 13-inch screen, is very portable. Out of the box, I let the Surface charge for about an hour even though I wasn’t sure if it needed it or not. When I began setup and got into Windows it was at 100% so I assume it came with a significant charge to begin with. Since then, I have plugged it in once and that was after three or so days of varying usage from music to movies, miscellaneous Microsoft activities and general web surfing. All in all, I would say I was able to get about 15 hours in before it needed a charge and it was still at about 10%. The base model comes with an i5 intel chip that isn’t the fastest available, but plenty powerful for the typical user. Also, with 8GB of ram, this laptop will perform well. For those that need to work more on video, photography or any intense graphics, I would suggest going for the i7 with 16GB of ram from the start so that you aren’t having any regrets afterward. The 512 GB hard drive is sufficient but, because I travel, I may need to upgrade to a 1TB so that I can have more of my files with me when I am not on a network. The specifications do stipulate that this is not user swappable, so I’d to take it in to ensure I was within spec and warranty. I have several Bluetooth options for my sound and I don’t typically concern myself with how the speakers sound when using a laptop or tablet; however, the built-in speakers on this laptop are better than average with nice range, strong bass and good treble. Certainly, the sound from this are better than any of the phones or tablets I have used. There is an HD camera built in for video calling and recording. It is sufficient and comes in handy for my zoom calls, I really wasn’t expecting anything more. All in all, this is a fantastic laptop with excellent out of the box capabilities. I would buy it again and anticipate others in the family will be fighting to use this versus some of the other options we have.

Love this machine! Light, easy to use, fast. Just make sure you have the right connectors as its a little different than I was used to.

I purchased this as a portable alternative to my much larger work laptop. It’s lightning fast, lightweight and super portable!

The laptop gives some issues when trying to connect to a Remote Desktop, but it works fine other than that. I probably would have preferred a MacBook though.

great laptop, would highly recommend if you do not want an apple base laptop. No bloatware like the other windows laptops from HP, lenovo etc.

As soon as I unboxed the Surface Laptop 4, I was impressed by the slim form factor. Given how compact and portable this computer is, I wasn’t sure it would be powerful enough to keep up. I’m happy to say that whether I’m dealing with too many work spreadsheets at once (each with too many statistical and calculation functions), editing videos of the kiddo into grandparent-pleasing montages, or taking my stress out on bad guys in video games, this machine has kept up with me. The battery life is also very impressive. Every situation is different, and I haven’t done extensive testing or determined the exact number of hours I can get… but there was at least one occasion where I left the power adapter at home by accident and was happily surprised that I made it through the day without running out of juice. Design wise, it’s clear that Microsoft wanted something that stands out. The lines are very sleek, and everything just fits together nicely and feels well built. The trackpad and touchscreen are both quite responsive, and the keyboard is comfortable to use. It's a small thing, but as someone who uses the function keys (F1, F2, F3, etc.) as originally intended, I really that the Fn key on the Surface Laptop 4 works as a toggle. That is, tap once to activate the original use of the F keys, tap again to switch to the alternate uses (like brightness, volume, etc.). The Fn key even has a small light to indicate which mode its on. One important note is that the ultra-compact form factor comes at the expense of external ports. This machine has just the Surface power connector, USB-A port, USB-C port, a headset jack. Nothing else. I really would have liked to have an SD card reader built in. On the upside, the USB-C port supports video out and power delivery. Overall, this is a compact yet powerful laptop that feels solidly assembled and thoughtfully designed. I’m enjoying it quite a bit.

Bought this for just personal banking and other small uses wish I knew more about it and how to use other things on it to use it to its full potential but I like it for what I use it for .

I have always wanted a surface and I absolutely love it. the only thing i wish it had a lighted keyboard. I love that it is also touchscreen.
