Perfect Addition to Surface Pro X

I recently received a Surface Pro X device and added the Microsoft Surface Pro Signature Keyboard with Slim Pen 2. This is an affordable option to turn the Surface into as close to a laptop as wanted. I am an on-the-go professional and need both a tablet and a "laptop" for working. This keypad is a game changer for working on the go. It easily attaches to the bottom edge of the Surface with magnets and works as a screensaver when closed up. The Slim Pen 2 also sits magnetically in a tray on the top edge of the keyboard. It charges in the tray and the keyboard can be folded to hide the pen and add an angle to the keyboard. Overall Impressions - I had never used a Surface or Surface Keyboard in the past, so have not used older version keyboard. To me, this keyboard is solid enough to be used on the go whether on a workspace or lap. It's a standard keyboard layout, so nothing new to learn. The haptic feel of the keys is responsive yet touch is light and smooth. The trackpad is a good size and also provides great haptic response on clicking. The Surface Slim Pen 2 provides an option for using the touchscreen without marking it up...my screen remained clean over a week's worth of usage. I've started using collaboration tools that support a pen, so it's a great option to have right at your finger tips. The Alcantara material reminds me of a high-end car interior. It's smooth and comfortable to the touch and protects the screen when not in use. Pros: - Easy installation/connectivity with Surface Pro X unit. - Ease of setup for keyboard and pen - Ability to create a "laptop" on the fly - Haptic response of keys and touchpad are responsive and light to the touch - Use the pen instead of your finger, keeping the screen clean! Cons: - Haven't found any yet! Overall the Surface Pro Signature Keyboard with Slim Pen 2 is a great additional to the Surface Pro X and I would recommend purchasing it to anyone wanting keyboard support on the go.

The Perfect Keyboard for your Surface Tablet

I chose this keyboard to go with my Surface Pro 9. This is my first Surface tablet, so I needed a keyboard for it. This one is very nice! I like the pen that comes with it and how everything charges from the tablet. The keys have a decent feel – as good as any notebook computer I’ve used – and are well-spaced and intuitive. The pen works well, too, with just enough movement of the tip to provide some feedback when writing. I like the Alcantara surfaces as they feel nice to the touch and also give the tablet a soft backing when setting it down on a table. The magnets that hold the keyboard to the tablet are very strong. It makes it very easy to attach the keyboard with just one hand. All I have to do is hover the Surface over the keyboard and it magnetically finds it and snaps together perfectly. The magnets on either side of the pen tray do a great job of holding that edge against the surface giving the keyboard a slight angle which makes typing easier. I like that the Fn key works both as a toggle and a momentary “shifted” key. In other words, I can press it while pressing one of the top row keys and it will type the “F” key, but not toggle it into function-lock. If I do want to toggle it, I just press the Fn key by itself and its indicator LED lights-up. I believe that’s a great design. Overall, I really like this keyboard and find no faults with it. I highly recommend this for your compatible Surface tablet.

The essential accessory to your Surface Pro 8

Many have commented on the decision to make this an additional optional accessory instead of part of the core bundle with the Surface. You can use the surface without the signature keyboard, and the surface works great with a usb-c docking station, but in order to work on the go I wouldn't use anything else. If you think about the Surface as a tablet and compare to an iPad -- the OEM keyboard and pen from Microsoft is better than anything you can get for an iPad from Apple or on the secondary market. I love the keyboard, especially with the ability to lay flat or prop it up by hiding the pen slot. The keys have great tactile feel and I find the placement of things like the function key to be ideal in Microsoft's layout. I can type at full speed and worry free in almost any environment. What I've surprisingly found as enjoyable is the Slim Pen 2. Pens in general have really been places into a gimmick bucket when it comes to Windows, this is the first one where I feel like it's truly nicer to use a pen on the screen rather than the touch pad on the keyboard. It feels great in my hand, provides reasonable tactile and is easy to click on what I'm seeing. I don't necessarily care for the out of the box whiteboard functionality, but I love the double click to screencapture functionality -- as a Product Manager I'm often looking to mark up existing functionality or provides requirements based on things I'm screen capturing, and being able to quickly draw those up using the pen really makes my job easier. Don't get caught up on if this should be included in the other box. Look at what's in this box and compare it to what's available for Windows or iOS devices and you'll see that this really is the best keyboard cover/pen combo out there.

Comfortable to use, a natural add-on

There’s not a lot to say about this keyboard for the Surface Pro 9. It attaches easily and is comfortable to use. I’m very much a keyboard aficionado, and I have to love my keyboard because I’m using it all the time. The beauty of this keyboard is that it is designed to fit the Surface Pro. But sometimes I want a larger keyboard if I’m at home, so I’ll hook up something else. But 90% of the time, I’ll use this one because it’s a natural attachment, and it works well when traveling, something you can’t do with a full-size keyboard. Included with the keyboard is a “Surface Slim Pen,” which is a useful add-on, especially for me, who hates continually touching a screen to select things. Yes, it’s convenient, but you’re constantly having to wipe off fingerprints. (At least, I do. I’m someone who is constantly wiping down my phone’s screen.) So a device like this is very handy. It’s so natural that this keyboard goes with the Surface Pro, I’m a bit surprised that Microsoft treats it as a separate add-on rather that just including it with the computer. In any event, I imagine that most buyers of the Surface Pro will buy the attachable keyboard as well. Anyone who does should be well-satisfied with it.

Super convenient and good looking, The keyboard doubles as a protective cover for the screen. The unit is durable and the keys have just enough resistance so that you know that you're typing. The keys are also large enough that I haven't been accidently hitting two or three keys at a time. I appreciate that as it's been a problem with other keyboards I've used. This is my first experience regularly using a pen on a tablet, but the pen usage is pretty self explanatory and accurate enough so that I'm not angry with misclicks, bad selections, and ugly lines. I really like that the pen's holder also recharges the pen as one of the reasons I never went for these digital pens was because the batteries would go dead before the tablet went dead and I always found that weird and frustrating. All in all, I really the keyboard. It's light enough that it, in combination with the tablet, still weighs less than a laptop, but it has all the functionality I generally need to get through a day. I highly suspect that I'll use my laptop less and less as I use this.

I wish this came as a bundle with the Surface Pro 9. It’s a nice keyboard but I think it could have been a lot better. I like the look and feel of the keyboard with the Alcantara material. It makes it look nicer than it being only plastic. The keyboard is backlit which is awesome and there’s levels of intensity. There’s not much key travel but expected because of how thin it is. The built-in trackpad could be a lot bigger. Not much real estate for selecting items. It covers and protects the Surface display screen and it has a built-in storage for the included Slim Pen. The Slim Pen is good but I still think the Apple Pen is better. It connects magnetically to the Surface and draws power from the Surface. It puts the computer to sleep when covered and wakes it up when you open it. There’s a Caps lock and Fn indicator light which I think is helpful. The only complaint I have is that flexes when typing especially when it is folded in to hide the pen storage. Other than that, It’s a good addition to my Surface Pro 9.

I am using this product with the newest Surface Pro X and I simply love the keyboard and the pen. Design - The Keyboard snaps to the tablet magnetically and is sturdy. The pen snaps into the keyboard also magnetically and stays in place even turning it upside down. 5/5 here. Aesthetics - A big win here as the keyboard has a soft outer texture over a firm inner component that makes it stiff but also comfortable. The pen has a nice weight to it but is not round - is semi flat. I like this design but others may like a more traditional round device. 5/5 here. Keyboard - The track pad is very responsive and gestures like scrolling and zooming are easily performed without errors. It has a backlight for when needed and is responsive as well. 5/5. Pen - Personally I like the design and found the pen adequate for all tasks - I am by no means an artist so it definitely worked well for me. 5/5 here. Price - underwhelming - $280 is simply too expensive for add on devices. I would argue that these should be included with the purchase of all the Surface Pro Line of devices. 3/5 here.

The Surface Pro Signature Keyboard with Surface Slim Pen 2 has been a joy to use with my new Surface Pro X. The keyboard feels great, is backlit and looks good too. An awesome feature is that the Keyboard has a nice little magnetic slot for the Slim Pen 2 to charge. When you're ready to use it just grab it and start writing or drawing. The Slim Pen 2 writes smooth and feels great in the hand. When you are ready to put your Surface away, simply close the keyboard and now your screen is protected. Attaching the keyboard is super simple. Just line up the keyboard to the bottom of the Surface and the magnets will do the rest. The keyboard itself has all the buttons and functions you would expect from a keyboard. The glass touchpad feels very nice too. The responsiveness and feel is very smooth. If you are looking for a keyboard and pen combo for your new Surface, I would definitely consider this product. High quality and fun to use!

This is the keyboard that attaches to the Surface Pro so it is an additional cost but worth it. There is an integrated pencil and they both work by just attaching to the pro and I don’t think they need to be charged. The pencil bworks bvery well and the keyboard feels very nice. The keyboard make the Pro tablet work like a laptop so it is pretty handy and doesn’t add much weight. I was able to set the Pro up easily and get the keyboard attached. It is fairly intuitive to set up. I generally use a desk top computer or my mini iPad. The pro was very similar to my desk top and if you used Microsoft 365, this would be a great addition since you could access all of your Word, Excel and Power Point from the cloud. .The Pro was similar to the large IPad but has more functionality. The Pro can be used with or without the keyboard. Computer devices and keyboards like this all depend on what it is needed for and which functions you need.

This is the perfect accessory and I would say required for the Surface Pro 8 or X. It's a very solid keyboard that houses the pen with a magnetic slot and also charges the pen. The Surface pen feels and writes like what a regular pen would feel like writing with. The keyboard is magnetically attached with a very strong magnet and also magnetically attaches to the bottom of the Surface to give a raised keyboard feel. The keyboard in the raised position is a bit mushy but not terrible. It is also backlit which is an absolute necessity for me. The glass trackpad is also excellent with a great feel. Also the Alcantara material of the keyboard has a nice soft feel. So, for me this is the perfect accessory for the Surface device.

A must have accessory for the Surface Pro

If you are planning or thinking about getting a Microsoft Surface Pro do yourself a favor and get this Surface Pro Signature Keyboard along with it. Yes it adds quite a bit to the cost and I wish Microsoft would sell this for lower or better yet just include it with the Surface Pro as it really is a must have accessory. The problem is later you are going to want it so if you can, try and get it at the sametime. This is typically not an accessory that I have seen discounted so I don’t think waiting will save you any money. This keyboard is just a perfect match for the Surface Pro. The way it connects with magnets and doesn’t require its own power source, the keyboard is easy to type on for extended periods and I especially like the feel of the trackpad. The trackpad feel rivals those found on other higher end thin and light notebooks. The Surface Pro Signature keyboard also looks and feels good and doesn’t add any additional bulk. My only complaint is that in an earlier model for an older Microsoft Surface I had, this model is missing the keyboard backlighting. Not sure why that was removed but that doesn’t take away from the overall function and utility this adds. The Surface Pro Signature keyboard has very good build quality and you can expect many years of service with it. In fact my earlier model outlasted the actual surface I purchased with it which I finally had to retire when the battery failed. Not having this keyboard will be a companion that you will miss right away. There really isn’t anything else like it to round out the Surface Pro and should be the number one accessory you should buy when purchasing a Surface Pro.

    A Really Nice Combo

The Microsoft Surface Pro Signature Keyboard and Slim Pen 2 make the perfect combo for the new Surface Pro 9. I mainly use my Pro 9 as a tablet, and I don't often use the keyboard, but when I do, as I am now to write this review, I can't find any flaws to report. It does what it is supposed to do and does it very well. Pros: 1. The keyboard seems well constructed and sturdy, with no flexing with normal use. 2. It is backlit. 3. It has all the necessary function keys and a dedicated row of number keys. 4. I like the look and the feel of the Alcantara fabric. 5. The keyboard has built in charging and storage for the Slim Pen 2. Cons: No serious flaws that I can find. Now, speaking of the Slim Pen 2, I thought at first I would not like it because it is a different shape from any stylus I have used previously, but I find that I actually like it very much. I like the plastic build of the pen and prefer it over the slick, cold metal of the older Surface Pen. The new pen's compatibility is very good, as I can use it with my Surface Go 3, and even with my Samsung Flex 2 Alpha laptop. The keyboard's ingenious charging/storage slot is great as well.

I wasn't a big fan of the keyboard I had with my Surface pro 7. It felt a bit wobbly and less reactive than this new one. When upgrading to the Surface Pro X, this keyboard is a must. The keyboard also doubles as a screen protector which is nice. Not to mention the new keyboard has a great spot to hold the slim pen. I love the way the pen is hidden and how it charges in the keyboard. This is a great upgrade.

Ive always heard great things about the Surface keyboards and now I know why. They take an already great tablet and bring it very close to an awesome laptop. I really like how Microsoft gives you plenty of color options to choose from as well. So you can match your tablets color. The keyboard itself has an awesome build. Very solid. It connects to the tablet solidly and doesnt wobble or come loose. I love how the pen magnetically attaches and also charges it. And the pen itself is great if you want to try out drawing and more. The best part for me is the typing. Normally when I switch to a new keyboard it takes awhile to get use to it. But this has the perfect “feel” to it. The trackpad is easy to use as well. And when your not using it it all folds together like a laptop would. This is a must have add-on to the Surface tablet. It makes an already awesome tablet a great little laptop.

If you own any Surface device, this keyboard and Slim Pen 2 is a must. The way the keyboard connects to the Surface is seamless. The way it charges the Slim Pen is ingenious. The feel of the keys and touchpad is a thing of beauty. The magnets and shapes when connected to the Surface device is just fantastic. Again, if you own a Surface device, this keyboard and pen combo is a must have and will increase the productivity and portability of the Surface device.

Lightweight & Quiet & Easy to Connect

This keyboard like the tablet is also a very lightweight device, yet has this almost magical magnetic power of attachment to two little tab inserts on the bottom edge of the Surface Pro 9, and practically flies from your fingers to find home. *Click.* Easy. The keys are whisper quiet and responsive. The keyboard features a Bluetooth pen that stays charged (which means the keyboard draws power from the tablet.) I am not much of a pen person but it was fun to toy with, I suppose it has a lot of uses. The keyboard has a quality I find odd--the surface of it is a felt-like material that I fear will hold stains and be hard to keep looking new. Time will tell. Maybe watch the snacking. Maybe. The slot where the pen rests is part of a "spine" of sorts that folds and becomes part of the bottom of the tablet to the eye. The only problem is--when attached to the tablet, you can't keep the tablet propped open with the tension of the keyboard/tablet junction like a normal laptop on your lap--you must open the back flap-stand on the Surface and pretend your lap is a desk or a table. Still an amazing lightweight must-have addition to the Surface.
