Poor review
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I returned this item along with the surface pro. I felt the surface pro was the worst of both worlds; Not great as a tablet and not great running windows apps with a touch interface. As for the keyboard, what annoyed me was the poor response of the touch pad. As I neared what I wanted to click on, the cursor would freeze, then wake up and overshoot the target. Very annoying. I know it was the touchpad cause an external mouse worked flawlessly.

Touch keyboard fails on Surface Pro
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the touch keyboard with the Surface Pro, but it failed after a few days. I returned it with the Surface Pro. I don't know whether the problem rested with the Surface Pro or the keyboard, or both, but it stopped working as was not recognized. I don't know which was the lemon - but I'm guessing both.

Required for productivity on MS Surface Pro
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the type cover when I bought my 128 GB Microsoft Surface Pro. I am an aspiring writer and wanted something a little more responsive than the type cover, which after demoing in the store, showed me that it functioned only about 85% of the time. If you are an avid typist, you understand the need for feedback while typing. The type cover is the peripheral for the Microsoft Surface products that gives that to you. Each key press feels good and the keyboard is only slightly smaller than an ultrabook (I say about 90%, but it's larger than my old netbook keyboard, so I might be wrong). I have only experienced one issue with the type cover. If it is not on a flat surface like a desk or table, sometimes the Surface won't register my key presses. I sometimes lie on my couch and write and the keys will suddenly stop responding until I take my fingers off the keys and let it catch up. This went away when I bought a lapdesk and did all my work on there from now on. This was not so much of an issue with me since I look at the screen while typing, but someone who "hunts and pecks" at the keys would find this infuriating, I'm sure. They wouldn't realize that their keystrokes weren't being registered until they looked at the screen next. Still, it works approximately 85% of the time on your lap and will resume function again as soon as you take your fingers off the keys. This is not a deal-breaker for most people, just something to be aware of. I find the type cover to be absolutely necessary to own with the MS Surface Pro in order to complete any type of productive work. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who bought a Surface Pro.

Good Keyboard, mediocre touchpad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound this thing makes when you click it into the Surface is fantastic! The keyboard itself is really good. It feels nice, works well, and is a decent size. It has several nice feature keys for Windows 8 actions. The touchpad isn't amazing. It's not bad. It's usable, but not great. It has two finger scrolling and two finger tap to right click. It's got nice features. There's something about it that I don't like though. I think perhaps it's too flimsy and too hard to tell the difference between the track pad and palm rest. There's a distinction between them for sure, but when I'm using it I find my fingers getting "lost" on the pad and not really sure where the buttons are supposed to be. The touchpad is usable in a pinch, but I don't like spending a lot of time using it.

Very nice product for typing on Surface
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is definitely preferred over touch cover - it does not lose the authentic, real touching feeling of a keyboard. The color and the design looks great and is very easy to detach or carry around (very light). I tried touch - does not feel like typing at all. Would highly recommend to a friend, and the price surely is a nice bargain. However, given the special materials of the bottom of the type cover, it would easily get dirty, scratched, or contaminated if left on top of a table and would be very hard to clean up - you surely would want to buy a case/sleeve for it.

Needed for significant typing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Surface to function mostly as a mini-laptop with tablet advantages and have not been disappointed. The Surface does in fact function as a real laptop that allows extensive typing with this keyboard. I type a lot and very fast and knew the touch keyboard wouldn't work for my needs. This keyboard does a great job most of the time. It works best on a hard and completely flat surface. When using it on a tiled table with grooves or an old table with a dipped surface, I had trouble with the keys not responding quickly enough, especially the space bar, but when I put it on a large book, it worked fine. Sometimes there is a small bit of a lag, but I suspect that's when the doc is autosaving or something, because other times it can keep up with me fine. The keyboard includes volume and mute keys and keys that are useful for Surface functions. The touch pad is great and in fact I like it better than the touch pad on my big laptop. It's responsive, but not so much so that I am constantly moving the cursor accidentally when typing. Bottom line, while the keyboard is not as good as a standard desktop or laptop keyboard, it's far better than I expected for this sort of thing and I'm very pleased with it. Update: I upgraded this from 4 stars to 5 when I discovered that my original keyboard had issues. It was pretty good, but not perfect. I thought that was just how this sort of keyboard worked until I happened to try another on a display unit and learned that it functioned as good as any laptop keyboard. Consequently, I exchanged my original one for a new one and it works perfectly. I am delighted because now my wonderful little tablet is truly a little laptop.

Good keyboard
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this keyboard for my surface pro. I think at that time, they only had it in black. I wish they had more colors, would have preferred a color keyboard. But, the only thing I like is that it attaches really easily and stays on very well. I can hold the tablet from the keyboard and it won't detach. They keys on the keyboard are great. The only thing I don't like is the price. The keyboard should come with the higher priced surface pro.

Great Little Keyborad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This keyboard works like a full-size without the bulkiness. Sleek, folds back if you want to use the touch-screen and has a soft outer cover. The first day, it wasn't always connecting, but after all the Win8 updates installed, it's been perfect. Also, be sure to "shut down" with the power button in the *settings* charm just like on a computer. Win8 IS a full operating system, after all. I found if you use the power button to shut down, the keyboard isn't always recognized after you power on again. Great job, MS, with this and the Surface Pro.

Great keyboard, easy to use.

Great Keyboard
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The type keyboard is by far the best compact keyboard I have ever used, the tactile feed back from the mechanical keys is outstanding. The only complaints I have is the price and that the touchpad and keys don't work at the same time. This only really matters for gamers though.

Good portable keyboard
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very effective keyboard cover for the Surface. The real keys make it much easier to use than the Touch keyboard cover. The Touch cover just felt not as responsive. This keyboard does add some weight to the Surface, but it's easily removable.

best keyboard for Surface
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am so glad I tried the flat keyboard in the store to discover it just wasn't going to be a good option for me. I was drawn to all the fun covers and the opportunity to create an individual look by having choices. They look fun but are horrible to try to type on. This keyboard types almost exactly like a traditional keyboard. I believe the felt back is supposed to help with grip. I'd prefer to have something a little more stylish. Or, have options for Surface Skins. I know it seems silly to want something to be fun AND work well but, sure would be nice if it did. Overall, go with the boring black keyboard if you actually want to type and the colored one if you want it to sit and look good but be a pain to work on.

Thumbs up to keyboard, down to trackpad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing keyboard. It's light, thin, and very portable! The problem with the trackpad is the friction, making it hard to move the cursor smoothly.
