However, some users express dissatisfaction with the user interface and find the price point to be a drawback. A few also reported issues with DVD playback and hard drive failures. Windows 8.1 is pretty good, still prefer the old desktop and format better, though.

The start menu is perfect for those who want simple application launching. Works flawlessly on my computer but I also built mine from scratch with a 3.2 ghz processor, 16 gb of ram and 7.5 tb of hard drives.

Sounds odd for a great review for window 8.1, but in all honesty everyone who keeps complaining about it being bad is just irritated that the User Interface has changed and certain services are streamlined. I, for one, was a bit hesitant about the upgrade but the once you learn the new features, it becomes second nature.

8.1 is what 8 should have been, the "Modern" ui is designed for tablets but translates well to PC's as well. It does take a while to learn, but once you've gotten the hang of it, it's far more efficient.

There are two major downfalls for windows 8, one slight annoyance and the rest is just fine. My two biggest gripes about the new windows 8.1 is anything located in the windows store. The amount of compromised or just straight malicious software hidden in there waiting for an errant download is concerning. The other is the "great powersaving" modes and options built in. And by great I mean a massive pain if you have a desktop pc, and especially if you have an external usb component such as a wireless card. Items you need to stay on constantly will be depowered after idling for a while to conserve your "laptops battery". It's back end non friendly fixes like this that keep windows 8 on most peoples bad side. My annoyance lends from the fact that win8 is ADD and often unsets my custom settings meaning I have to fix the aforementioned internet problem again However the user interface is slick and once you tweak the UI after getting your new win8 computer and learning the keyshortcuts (the windows button will be out best friend) and the mouse tricks for non touch screens getting and switching to what you're doing and pulling up new programs is simple, intuitive and sleek. No more multitaskers cluttered desktop. And when used on a touchscreen interface, navigation is a breeze. Highly recommend getting a touchscreen with win*8. It seems like something you don't need, but once you have it you'll find yourself poking old computer screens mystified why it didn't do anything. Its a great system for those who are used to working with computers. But the little frustrations turn into large problems for those newer to the computer game. I suggest get it, get a touch screen, make sure you've got an SSD in your system, and grab a tutorial book to brush up on the system to avoid the "win 8 is terrible" bandwagon. Its an acquired taste; however its one you can make all your own.

I thought making the move to Windows 8 would be a pain, but truthfully it wasn't too bad. It has the option to go to the Desktop, and its what I do 99% of the time and it is basically like Windows 7.

Oh boy where to start, I will just list the problems Ive had to spend more than ten minutes trying to work around. First off the software for my water cooler was not happy in win 8.1 I had to spend considerable time and effort to get it to recognize it as a usb device. I had to google search how to turn off the sign in feature every time I wake up my system, overkill for a desktop I think and not something you should have to run regedit to change. The fact that I had to create a microsoft account kind of irritates me. several 3rd party programs that I use have issues trying to run on 8.1 for instance Mod Organizer has several work arounds that are needed to get alll the features to work etc. Overall I just get the feeling that this OS was made for people that do nothing other than run social media programs and play vids and music, doing anything more seems like a chore to just access settings and programs etc hope that makes sense. Kind of like they went out of there way making it difficult to access certain features. OH and my BIGGEST GRIPE I payed 120 dollars for this OS and I cannot even play a DVD ?????!!!!!! really you expect me to pay another 10 bucks for an app ( conveniently located in your app store which is conveniently tied to your search function which is conveniently needed to find any file or program that should be accessable through the start menu) to run a movie REALLY . Oh and closing apps should be easier than switching screens and right clicking to disable...... just let me shut the darn thing OFF. Ok so there are a few things I do like............. um ok I do kind of like the Xbox music, its kind of like pandora I guess, but it just reminds me of why I bought a computer to play games and cancelled my Xbox live account..... because I dont care for there way of subtly slipping offerings of there products in every aspect of your online life.......Just wait they will release a free OS in the future that is bare bones, and of course they will suppliment with adds on your desktop, and of course you can pay for any apps you will need, like internet browser access email support, game playing etc etc..... Ok so this is more of a rant than a review sorry just dont feel like I got a good product for the 120 dollars, kind of wish I would have got 7. I also wish there was another mainstream OS to keep everyone honest. THE END
