(It's a niche program for a niche industry) Soooo, instead of pirating a copy of XP Pro, I did the "right" thing and purchased Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. Not only is it Windows, but it's Windows 8. It features a poorly utilized "Tile" interface which I and everyone I know completely bypasses so they can get to the familiar "Desktop" mode. After that, anything you want to do is convoluted. Want to print? You need to manually install a driver. You can't even utilize the built-in mail client, Outlook, without signing up for a Microsoft account and giving them even more of your info. Save yourself the time, trouble, and hassle; Purchase a Mac and use the Mac OS.

Except that I bought it to upgrade to 10 immediately on a new computer. The free upgrade worked, so I guess that's all I have to say about my experience purchasing Windows 8.
