Customers are saying

Customers consistently note Windows 8.1's ease of use and performance as significant strengths, with many praising its compatibility and relatively smooth installation. However, some users express dissatisfaction with the user interface and find the price point to be a drawback. A few also reported issues with DVD playback and hard drive failures. Overall, opinions are mixed, highlighting both the operating system's strengths and areas needing improvement.

Great software love Windows 8 it's worth the money to buy if you're into it. It's a little tough to get used to it first but once of used it a bit it's very easy to understand

Once you learn a little about it, and adjust between using your fingers on the screen, instead of the mouse it's a big plus

If you enjoy using tablets you can simply enjoy Wdws 8 for your pc. I really enjoy the ease of getting around in this software. It is so simple my husband enjoys it too.

Here's the facts: if all you have is Windows 8.1, then you're gonna find a way to work with it. If, however, you have options (say an older computer that you don't have to upgrade), then I suggest you stick with Windows 7 (or God forbid, earlier supported editions, but you'll be happiest with 7). 8.1 is not the train wreck popular tech culture would have you believe it to be, but there are enough behavioral quirks to make you a bit dizzy at times.

I am so happy to have repaired my 3 year old damaged laptop, and having windows 8.1 is much better than my old windows. I feel like I have a new computer.

Installed this on my home PC with no Touchscreen monitor. The live tiles work much better on the Surface tablets but once I figured out how to boot to desktop it has been great. Looking forward to the new update on the start button!

Difficult to find programs. I use email a lot and I lost many of the features I rely on: font change; font size; ability to bold, italicize an underline; variety of signatures. Extremely limited features in contact list. I lost all my groups that I had set up. It is not clear how I can add contacts or if I can edit the existing contacts. The desktop takes you to the last page opened and then I struggle finding how to close that page. I am still not clear how to do it. The app page is convenience but it loaded so many apps it takes a long time to find the program I loaded and because the desktop does not show icons for my specific programs. Sometimes they are there and sometimes they are not. As I said in my summary, this is not a used friendly program. Currently this program is slowing down my work.

Needed 64-bit windows to run watchdogs. Time to upgrade from my old 32-bit Windows 7 installation. No-brainer. It's fine for my purposes.

8.1 has replaced XP on my Toshiba Laptop. Installation was complicated, but a computer savvy friend helped me get it done. I resent Microsoft stopping support for operating systems, forcing owners to buy upgrades.

If you have a Mac and you want to run the system that allows to run Windows this is much better than anything I've run before. I hated all previous versions of Windows. This one is OKAY for things that my kids use for education. The last thing I tried was XP. This is MUCH better.

I am not a fan of Windows 8.1, however, when my computer crashed (and I needed an operating system quickly), I choose what was on the shelf. If I would have other options, I would NOT have chosen Windows 8.1. In the interest of time and necessity, I made this purchase.
