It's Microsoft, not real computer software.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Send it out and then ship a patch every day until we won't support it any longer. I wish I were a REAL OS like OpenVMS is.

Poor Evolution of Windows
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is a reason why Windows XP is still one of the most widely used versions of Windows; because it just works and it is fairly straight forward and easy to figure out. Windows 8 is neither straight forward nor easy to figure out. The best way to get any use out of it is to switch to the classic desktop and just leave it there.

Great Software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a full Microsoft Windows 8.1 OS, not the OEM discs other retailers are selling for less....the extra cost here at BB is worth it. It also comes with 32 & 64 bit installation discs. Since I'm upgrading from a Windows 7 OS on my laptop, I needed the full Windows 8.1 OS, not the Windows 8.1 upgrade. The Windows 8.1 upgrade OS will only work if you're upgrading from Windows 8. Also the OEM Windows 8.1 OS are a manufacturer's disc and I've read many complaints with the OEM discs having installation issues. .The OS installed very fast, about 20 minutes. It ran without a hitch. I'm not a fan of Windows 8, but since Windows 7 is nearing the end of it's usable life I decided to upgrade. It's faster than Windows 7, takes up less hard drive space, and uses less CPU and Ram resources. I installed "Classic Shell" that gives us back the Windows 7 start button and a usable all programs list. It gives back the Windows 7 desktop look and hides the Windows 8 tiles....that you can switch back and forth at will. For all practical purposes it looks and feels like Windows 7 with "Classic Shell" installed. Full OS backups finish now in 1/2 the time it did with Windows 7. Since I no longer have a recovery program nor a recovery partition, it's critical one makes regular full OS backups to an external drive. I make 2 backups, one with Windows and also 3rd party backup programs. You will also have this OS disc for re-installation if needed but as we all know, that's a headache to go through. During the installation process, this OS installation will format your Hard drive, erase all data, including any recovery partition. None of the junk programs and crapware that comes with new Pc's is included with this OS disc. It's faster, more stable, boots faster, and a much better running operating system than it would be on a new PC with all the crapware a new Pc comes with. For all tense and purpose this OS runs great and mine looks like Windows 7.

Windows 8.1 is Bad Bad Bad
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When the Geek person told me that Windows 8.1 was a little different than 7, I expected a slight learning curve. That's expected with software upgrades. But Windows 8.1 has a completely different function methodology that I never could get used to. I was using a mouse and planned to continue using a mouse, but my screen was begging me to touch and swipe. It was a complete waste of my money and 6 months of my time. I ended up having to buy a new computer that had the old Windows 7 on it. This experience has burned me on Best Buy.

For the non-computer literate.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This software is so "cookie-cutter" in construction that it leaves experienced users with very little options or a lot of extra clicking to get what you want it to do. I unloaded it and went back to Windows-7 and breathed a big sigh of relief.

Windows 8.1 is a hardship for Windows 7 users
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to buy a book to explain nuances of Windows 8.1 because it was so different from Windows 7. First two weeks of using it were torture.
