||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This program is horrible. Bring back Windows 7. This program is not friendly for those who hardly understand Windows xp

Horrible, but other practical options don't exist
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worst operating system ever devised by Microsoft but good luck avoiding it...

Poorly designed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Microsoft really blew it when they made Windows 8 and now 8.1. What a mess. I hope Windows 10 is better. I might have to change to Mac if this keeps up.

Hard to use vs Windows 7
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This version of Windows is hard to use and contains very few instructions. Stick with Windows 7.

Nothing Fun About This
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Windows 8 is the single worse operating system I have ever seen. Windows 3.21 was a much better product. It's frustrating and impossible to use. Stick with Windows 7 until something better comes along.

Great if you need a copy of windows
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for a boot camp installation on my Mac. It worked perfectly. There is a learning curve to get used to the live tiles and toggling from desktop to tiles, but it's fairly easy to get used to. Overall it's a very stable build of windows.

Windows 8.1 - Windows
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After using Windows 7 Home Premium for many years, I decided to upgrade my computer's internal hard drive and while at the same time to purchase Windows 8.1. I had Best Buy Geek Squad install it for me as a new install and with my annual Geek Squad plan, this was done for me at no additional cost. After using Windows 8.1 for two months now I am finally used to it and would recommend anyone considering upgrading to go ahead and do so. I also highly recommend the Geek Squad Annual Service Plan - it is a tremendous value both in terms of money and saving me my time!

works well
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.well windows 8 was flawed when it first came out, the least little thing you did and out would pop an app or you would randomly shrink the screen ( all accidently ) but with 8.1 there has bee some fixes. This program is much better on as a touch screen. I have it on my Surface 2 and its great. maybe someday I will get used to it on my laptop.

Not as bad as people say
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am convinced that people will take any chance they have to complain about change. Windows 8.1 is a good operating system. It may take a little getting used to, but the fact is that the underlying architecture of Windows has been updated. File operations are screaming fast on Windows 8. Not only that, it's astounding how little it takes to make Windows 8 run - it doesn't just run on top of the line machines, but also old machines. I installed it on a laptop from 2007 (with a Core 2 Duo) that originally had Windows Vista installed on it and it ran without a hitch.

I like it - will love it when Start Apps go live
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Other pros: the Start screen apps will someday give me all the worldly information I desire in one spot - like having 10 TV screens on a wall If hyberfil.sys hogs HD space, can turn it off or limit its size to 1/2 or more Programs work like on jet fuel Disk partitions can be expanded & shrunk in Disk Manager with care (but no effect reserved partitions) Old programs that actually work! (Some even install with cut-paste) Louts Smart Suite (from admin OK to popup warning only) v9.8 Polaris Packrat Pro Olympus Camedia Master v4+ Broderbund Calendar Creator 12 Deluxe Time$heet Professional v7 Juno Internet/email (works better than Windows Live Mail) Seagate Crystal Reports v7 Sadly NO: Kiplingers Managing Your Money by Tobias for Windows Ability Plus Suite Other cons: Screen savers can lock up computer = hard boot, Classic version of slide show seems more stable than the new ones; watch out for old graphics drivers Apps can hog lots of space & be redundant in this pursuit Graduating from XP can take time

Confusing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It used to be, you turn on your computer and it went right to the desk top after the windows logo while booting up, now you have all these screens to get through just to get to the desk top, that's time consuming. Developers need to make things easier for the average user when upgrading, not more difficult, but they managed that when coming out with windows 8. Unfortunately all new computers and laptops are integrated with it already. One of my pet peeves, when viewing pictures the only way to exit is hit the home key, that goes all the way back to the screen before the desk top, WTF? Another peeve, when moving a window to the side because I plan on clicking and dragging files from another window, the window expands, WTF? The whole thing is just confusing, where is the control panel? With previous versions all you had to do was click the start button to get to the control panel or anything else, now you have to go through all these screens just to get what you're looking for. And I have set a certain picture folder to be my desk top and change pictures every so often, well it just stays on the same picture day after day until I manually change it. I'm sure I could think of more but that's enough already.

I was sold w/in 10 minutes.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really scared to upgrade to 8.1 from Vista Ultimate (I bought a full license from the Microsoft store for cheap. After watching a lot of videos and doing tons of reviews, I decided to dive right in. I haven't even built my new system yet, but I wanted to install it to get familiar with it and I was sold w/in 10 minutes. So far it's prolly my favorite OK after Windows 98 SE.

Could Not load
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After my laptop had issues with windows 7, I purchased Windows 8 but the Operating System would not complete the installation. It got approximately to the half way point and said a file was missing and aborted the install.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This new windows OS is much better than I thought. I used the previous windows 8 and was disappointed. This new release really makes it fun and easy to use windows again.
