Not accurate distance

Best range will be achieved outdoors in open rural areas without obstructions, or on flat areas. The "up to" range is under optimal conditions (ex: over open water, desert, or mountain top to mountain top). As with all two way radios, any obstructions between radios will reduce the range.

Any obstructions especially between floors on a cruise ship is going to greatly decrease your range. Please note that range is subject to quite a few factors. Best range will be achieved out-of-doors in open rural areas without obstructions, or on flat areas. This is true no matter which brand of radio you purchase.

For maximum battery life, we recommend charging the battery pack when the low battery icon comes on. Posted .Hi Melody, the range of the radio will depend on how many obstructions there are between you and the person you are trying to communicate with. If you are inside a home or vehicle that in of itself is an obstruction. You will enjoy the best range in rural areas with less obstructions. You will experience this variation in range no matter which brand of radio you purchase.

The range is adequate for my intended purposes, but at best I can expect a couple miles before static overtakes the conversation. When I reached out to Midland about the faulty batteries, it fell on blind eyes as I never got a response. Now, the only thing I like about these is that I can USB charge them with the batteries inside the radios. It takes a while to charge, but that is okay as I just charge them overnight.
