Tim Burton classic? In my mind, yes!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tim Burton does it again - he manages to create with passion and imagination a whole new world, for those of us who need new worlds. Thus if you love fantasy and dreams made serious and scary go see it in 3d because it's great. If you are more of an adult than the child within and you like films with linear plot and logic and exhaustive explanations you probably won't become a fan and that's OK too. Just don't rate it low just because it's not your type, a movie should be rated for what it was meant to be and for what the team behind it tried to accomplish. Watch the trailer, if you like it you'll probably love the film. It's worth mentioning that it is quite dark and scary so it's not for every child.

Great disc, pretty good movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.4K Blu Ray was made for Tim Burton. HDR seems to pair nicely with his color pallettes and if nothing, this movie makes me anxious for his other works. As for this film, it is quite good. Just scary enough that older children can have fun watching it and the parents can get a bit squeamish as well. It's a very unique film with a story that, in the world of superhero movies, becomes a bit of a Justice League Dark meets the X-Men. Still, the story is well paced, does take some unique turns and is generally something that you want more of.

Fun but not Faithful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yes, Miss. Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is one of those young adult adaptations where a seemingly normal kid who possesses zero self-confidence comes to learn that he's special in some capacity. That he is in fact "the chosen one" and that without his presence an evil plan couldn't possibly be thwarted. Director Tim Burton's (Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) adaptation of author Ransom Riggs' best-selling novel is indeed that type of movie and there is no eluding those comparisons. What allows this seeming cookie-cutter product to come off a different conveyor belt than some of its peers though is the level of uniqueness with which it is operating in. Riggs' novel plays by the conventions of the genre, sure, but there are so many fresh and interesting ideas brought to the table that it is easy to see past the rather standard narrative beats. It is all about the journey rather than the destination, right? If one has little trouble buying into that saying than they should have no trouble finding a point in which they can immerse themselves in the world of Miss Peregrine (Eva Green) and her peculiars. While I can admit to the fact the adaptation (penned by Jane Goldman of X-Men: First Class, and Kingsman fame) has a few shortcomings in not giving a few of its exceptionally talented cast members enough to do while sporting other scenes in which the exposition is far too glaring the overall product we are delivered is one of wonder and curiosity. I can only imagine going into the film having not read the source material that the plot could come off somewhat convoluted-especially in the obligatory action-heavy third act-but more times than not Goldman finds interesting ways to speak around the necessities of the plot which are only aided by the visual flair of Burton who finds himself firmly in his own wheelhouse with this world. From the overly dark and dreary opening credits sequence to the way in which it cuts abruptly to sunny Florida where Burton once again chastises the slums of suburbia it is clear Burton is back in a field where he feels his creative juices are free to flow. Essentially-the guy can do whatever he chooses and it will likely work in this alternate reality where what we come to be treated to is a fully realized world with special powers giving way to numerous adventures that is only halted from time to time by the not fully realized characters that populate it.

A fun film, but could be scary for small kids
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My friend's kids (9 and 10) were worried the film might be too scary for them, but they did watch it and did enjoy it. But it's probably not for younger kids or those more sensitive to this sort of thing. The film is pretty typical Tim Burton, except that Johnny Depp isn't in it. I haven't read the book so I can't directly compare it, but reading about the book on Wiki suggests it doesn't stray too far from it. As expected, the film is filled with lots of CGI effects. The BluRay has no Bonus Features in 3D, but the 2D disc has over 2 hours worth. One of the features alone is just over an hour. I haven't watched all the features yet, but they seem to both about the material of the film and about its making.

For possibly 10yrs old up for Safety Sake .
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this mostly for a friend ,Still i get to watch it too any time i visit there and its also a great 3D experience , though not so much for adults or very young children . Lets face it when you watch this in 3D you think what you see is real and a very young mind might try doing dangerous things , Magic is well mostly fake and you can't expect things to occur without knowing the actual trick . And who knows what dreams might modify this presentation ? One can only hope they are old enough to understand its special effects not reality .

Excellent Family Adventure
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this title because it is an outstanding family movie. The great story line and excellent cast make this movie a must have in your collection. We own the 2D version, which is simply breathtaking.Colors pop off the screen and the buildings, landscapes all just pull you into the film. We loved the 2D version so we deceided on upping our visual feast to the Blu-Ray 3D version. The 3D version doesn't disappoint,it takes the movie into a whole new dimension. There is an under water scene with the Titanic that will blow your mind visually. The majority of the effects that are really noticeable are the depth of perception you truly experience in the 3D version. This is a must have for your collection.

Tim Burton At His Best
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A long title, beautiful scenery, a great story and Burton creepy. I recommend that you pay attention as the story unfolds. This is not a film to run in the background while you pay bills or make fudge. The casting folk did a great job matching the character's "look" to their power (although there is a redistribution of powers among two key characters). Burton manages to make the romantic conclusion completely believable and even heartwarming. Heed the movie rating. This is a film where you will be pleased when you watch the extras after the film. For those of you who wondered what the actors playing the "Twins" look like, this is the place for you..

A surprisingly fun movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie having never read the books. I knew Tim Burton was involved which guarantees a particular vision and appearance to sets and characters but was pleased with how he played out the story. Shifts in time and making the surroundings appear normal for those eras isn't easy. In fact most time associated movies or programs carry strategic flaws but Burton handled the situations well and utilized the cadre of characters and oddities into a very satisfying and fun movie. It's well worth watching repeatedly just to pick up the finer details.

Entertaining Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The movie was very entertaining. The special effects were great and the story line was very interesting. I knew nothing about this movie when I saw it other than what the title of the movie tells you. I had imagined something like an X-MEN movie, but that was not the case. Perhaps a blend of X-men and Harry Potter. I saw the special features on the Blu-ray about how the author came up with the idea to write the book. Very interesting but a bit weird. Made for a very entertaining movie. I would recommend watching it.

Excellent Story
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A great film based off a book. A fantasy a little bit like Harry Potter, the story follows a teenage boy who everyone is seeing things after his grandfather dies. Taken to a small island off of England, he searches for the children's home that was said to be there by his grandfather. Without spoiling too much, he meets the unusual children hidden within a time loop, but finds out that they are in danger. This film does have monsters so small children might not be able to watch it without nightmares, though my 9 year old niece managed it and loved it.

Not Bad
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great movie :) got some funny parts and some creepy parts that little scary to kids and one shocking jump scare lol if you like stuff like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson or creepy stuff you might like this movie I won't let weak hearts or very young kids that cry a lot watch it because of the shocking jump scare and from the creepy parts but the movie might be good it dose get long and confusing near the end The price of the movie should be lowered to $7.50 but me thinking a price drop to $7.50 doesn't mean it bad it a good movie :)

Starts off slow
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Another movie that was only $5 & I’m a big fan of Tim Burton movies. Similar to X-Men in some ways with a Burton twist. Very good visuals & effects.

I liked the story line and the 3D effects...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked the story line and the 3D effects were great. It's a fantasy story about a teen aged boy and his grandfather and their adventures in time loops. There are not a lot of 3D movies on Blue Ray DVD's and that's a shame because the technology really works on my 55" Samsung home HDTV. The story line is between the present and 1943 during the Blitz in England. And there are monster like creatures to keey everyone interested in the plot. I liked the way the movie ended, but you will need to purchase the Blue Rray

Great movie from a book
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great translation from a book to movie. I always felt it had a movie feel to these stories, and was not disappointed in how they translated it. The plot keeps running and the kids were great actors. They lady to portray Miss Peregrine is a fantastic actress. And the special effects were amazing. There are some pretty intense parts, please remember this is a PG-13 movie. My 10 year old wasn't able to handle some of those moments and got scared. If your kid can handle those parts you'll enjoy it all.

A Truly Original Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a movie that is a little strange. While watching it you keep thinking, I have never seen anything like this. The special effects are incredible. It blows my mind the way they have become so advanced. I got this Bluray at a great price and I am glad I gave it a chance. Check it out. You wont be sorry.

Good Movie definitely PG-13
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a bit more frightening than I had thought it would be. There was never a dull moment. Definitely one that you can watch more than once. My only recommendation would be to screen it for your children before you let them watch it so you can make a more informed choice. Some parts can be scary for children under 12 years old. Watched it with my 12 and 15 year children. As with any book turned into a movie some liberties were taking with the characters.

Tim Burton's latest cinematic creation is awsome.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie is loosely based on the book, seems loyal fans of the book didn't seem to care for the way the director took liberties with the original story. But I came upon the movie first, and think it stands strongly on its own merits, its a real cohesive flick that stands well enough on its own. It includes an interesting cast, with strong performances by all. It's well edited at a good pace to keep one interested. So both thumbs up from me, Tim's back with a really good effort.

Exceptional Cinematography and so Enchanting!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tim Burton is an acquired taste, but I found this movie to be absolutely delicious! There are a couple of horrific scenes to be sure, but overall it was a totally enchanting movie. Generally very good acting, especially Eva Green as Miss Peregrine. Samuel L. Jackson camped it up a bit for his part. And the earworm in the middle of the movie is still playing in my head! "Run rabbit, run rabbit, run, run, run..." But I love it, it energizes me!

Awesome Movie!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought this was a great movie when it came out in theaters. I had to have it on dvd, but it wasn't spectacular where I would buy it at full price. One day I was browsing the Best Buy website and came across this product for only $9.99. I immediately added it to my cart because it was an awesome deal. $10 for a blu ray and dvd combo pack!!! I couldn't let it fly, so I purchased and I am glad I did. Keep an eye out for great deals like this, Best Buy always has them.
