Charging phone with mophie on doesn't work

But, huge problem: When the phone is wearing the mophie, and you plug the mophie into a charging cord, the phone goes into this frenzy of charging - not charging - charging - not charging every few seconds forever until you unplug the charger. Crazy. Who knows why this is happening, as I have tried changing every setting. Maybe I have a defective one. Going to try exchanging it for another and see if that is the issue. If not, bye bye Mophie.
