Enjoyed the Disney's cartoon version of Mulan as I growing up. This Mulan is like Rey Skywalker from Star Wars. Two very different stories, but with the same overpowered female protagonist who faces little to no struggle and everything is so natural to them. The only challenge she faces is hiding her so-called true abilities. Sounds boring, doesn't it? What would have made this better (even without having to make it more Disney-like) is if it was more realistic. No acrobatics with strings attached, Mulan showing her emotions/drama, and having a worthy adversary. There's also politics such as the actress supporting Hong Kong Police and the film shooting near a concentration camp for Uighurs. I knew about this before watching the movie, but brushing the politics aside I wanted to watch and think of the movie as Mulan itself and no bias. Regardless of all this, there are some parts that I enjoy. The scenery is nice. As they say, when you try to please everybody you end up pleasing no one. Don't know anyone who enjoyed it, including Chinese.
