Many appreciate its power and water resistance, finding it convenient for showering. However, some users found the trimming performance inconsistent and the body shaver less effective than expected for a close shave.

I like efficiency and a groomer that easily has multiple functions. I travel quite a bit and often times I need to trim my hair or trim body hair during the summer. Previous trimmers I've had did not have the waterproof feature which I never knew I needed until I tried it. If you're like me and you don't like seeing hair on countertops or anywhere in the bathroom then you'll like this because then you can just do it in the shower. I would say that I am pretty versatile and sometimes I like keeping facial hair on my face and then I get a wild hair and want it all gone! So having this in my life has changed how lazy I am to keep my face well groomed. Overall, the leather pouch it comes with is spacious and that's another plus for me because I don't want to have a separate pouch for my toiletries and another for my groomer. It fits my cologne, my electric toothbrush, medicine bottles, lotions, shaving cream, the groomer, accessories, and charging wire.

    Excellent Trimmer

This trimmer is perfect for any guy that has facial and body hair (which I think is all guys past a certain age). I sport a goatee and for years have been trimming it with scissors but not anymore! Using the stubble comb attachment I can dial in the exact length that I want (5 mm) and just run it through. It's so quick it can be done daily. Battery life claims to be an hour and I haven't had to charge it yet. The ear and nose attachment also works well. I got a little nervous that sticking this thing in my nose would catch a hair and just pull it which I'd imagine it be quite painful but there was none of that. It worked really well. The travel bag is a welcome addition as I definitely plan on taking this with me on future trips. It's very lightweight and I'll leave the charger at home on short trips. I can't think of any downsides other than it comes with more attachments than I probably need!

    Sweet Little Trimmer

As a guy who shaves my head weekly and I received this trimmer just in time for a fresh shave. Compared to my old trimmer (which I trashed upon receiving the Philips) this trimmer feels more sturdy and cuts more smooth. I tried out all of the attachments. They all worked as expected although I felt the shaver didn't work as well as I thought it would. I assume it's because I use a normal razor on my face and not an electric razor. As with any little trimmer like this, the blade guides are made of plastic and feel like they could break easily or bend if too much pressure is applied causing a closer shave than expected. The problem I've ran into with the past few trimmers I've used is the battery life doesn't last long. I'm hoping the lithium ion battery in this one makes it last longer than the others, but my review is just from a few uses and trying it out.

    another Multigroom, in the tradition

Philips-Norelco Multigroom Series 7400 Wet/dry Groomer - Black/chrome I happen to own several electronic personal "grooming" tools that aren't dedicated facial hair shavers. Some were from purchases I made, others, the most "expensive" and, surprisingly, least useful, were well intended gifts. While I won't mention those hardly ever used and very pricey brands/models by name in this review, I will make specific mention of the other Philips-NORELCO personal groomers that I do use on a regular basis. I learned how to properly cut head hair using comb, hair cutting scissors and eye-sight, with professional results. While I can't accurately ruler-free/free-hand cut to specific millimeter lengths, I have always had an innate ability to visually divide-cut existing lengths by visual fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4 of original) to within 1-2mm of measured accuracy. It's a skill set that transfers to DIY grooming. Personal grooming means DIY, not handing a tool to a second party to do the job. Personal facial hair grooming requires a minimum of one mirror, but benefits from two or more mirrors, a 2nd to obtain a profile view and a 3rd, frontal spot mirror for magnification. Personal head hair cutting, with the intention of obtaining anything other than a "military" look, requires a minimum of two mirrors. My facial hair grooming needs do not go beyond upper lip moustache trimming, but exceeds what a dedicated electric shaver is capable of on a weekly basis. I do cut my own head hair on a three week interval, and I always obtain professional results with a non-single length, styled look. DIY "styled" hair cuts are a messy process, so the best place to work it is in a dry shower stall, where the clippings may fall where ever and then be swept up for disposal prior to actual showering. I also classify my hair as thicker and coarser than average. No Multigroom can ever replace a dedicated facial shaver in my world, but, for all other DIY work, I find P-N Multigooms to be very useful. When I received the Multigroom 7400 I noticed it's close similarity to the Phillips-NORELCO MultigroomPro (QG3386). While there are cosmetic differences in their outer shells, the Lithium ion battery life, motors, charge/run times and chromium steel primary trimmer blades are the same across these two models. P-N called the MPro "water resistant" and calls the M7400 "shower proof." The MPro and M7400 have slightly different accessories. Common across the two models, functionally, but not physically identical, are: the Precision/Detail trimmer, Bodygroom shaver, Nose trimmer. The MPro also has a Mini foil shaver, for fine edge work, which the M7400 dropped. In my experience, the Pro's Mini foil shaver was not useful to me, so it's not missed in the M7400's load out. Across Multigroom (Pro/7400) models there are 3 adjustable combs: Hair clipping (3-20mm); Beard/Moustache (Pro, 1-18mm) vs Stubble (7400, 1-12mm); Body trimming (3-12mm). All of these attachments are 100% interchangeable between the MPro and M7400. All combs are adjustable at 1mm increments; but the Pro suffers from a manufacturing/design flaw that makes it very difficult to land on the odd-numbered mm comb settings -- fully fixed in the 7400. (If you happen to prefer the MPro's Bodygroom shaver over the M7400's, the former is sold separately by P-N as a single retail accessory.) There are two operational buttons on each model, a power button and a Turbo mode button, the latter of which increases motor speed and battery drain. The Turbo mode button on the MPro remembers that you set it to Turbo between off/on durations of upto a minute. The M7400 requires that you manually turn Turbo mode back on with each and every off/on cycle -- which is an annoyance, because I prefer to always run both in Turbo mode. I've never fully immersed either unit completely in water, but I can confirm that both are in-shower-use water resistant. Both models do not short at the electrical switches when operated under a shower water stream and the main body of the shaver handles have passive top-to-bottom drain-through slots (that also merit specific cleaning with compressed air between uses to prevent clogging). The interesting thing is that my main GoTo tool for head hair cuts remains the significantly lesser Phillips-NORELCO All-in-1 G480 Grooming Kit. This G480 is pre-Multigroom, is NOT water resistant or shower proof and only has a Ni-MH battery that delivers 35 mins max runtime. Ni-MH also requires periodic full discharge to prevent charge "memory" effects. The G480 only has one motor speed that's equivalent to Multigroom Turbo mode. The G480's design and accessories have functional Multigroom similarities, but are not interchangeable, with Multigrooms'. G480's combs only adjust at 2mm increments. The G480 has a Fine detailing blade that is half the width of the Multigrooms' Precision trimmers/mini foil, but I've found no use for it. The main reasons why I prefer the G480 for general head hair cutting are the physical dimensions of it's combs, even though the comb teeth widths, teeth counts and cutter blade widths are IDENTICAL. They somehow manage to perform DIFFERENTLY. Cutting my own head hair, I use the equivalent of 20mm + a two finger scalp-level hair pinch, 20-18mm free-hand and 5mm free-hand. I use straight cuts and thinning cuts. Yet, for whatever reason, I achieve the exact same overall results with only the older G480 in about 20-25 minutes, where using either Multigroom, alone, seems to take 30-35 minutes. The difficulty I encounter is with 5mm head hair edge work, achieving a tapered effect that is pleasing to me. No matter what Multigroom combs I choose, I have to work twice as hard to avoid winding up with a choppy "FlowBee" edge result, whereas I can quickly free-hand the same edge tasks using the G480. The only thing that I can think of to suggest to P-N, should they care to solve this problem, is to put more comb teeth in the Multigroom combs, perhaps doubling the number, reducing, by half, the distance between teeth, and narrowing the overall outside width dimension of the comb assemblies (not the overall width of the actual teeth array). Another thing about P-N combs is that the plastic material that they're made of becomes brittle and prone to breakage, during normal use, in slightly more than two years of use. I don't use harsh chemicals or soaps cleaning them, just warm running water and air drying. Overtime, the plastic teeth become pitted and develop tiny internal hairline cracks, then teeth finally break. I haven't had a Multigroom long enough, yet, for comb teeth breakage, but it has been a problem with the G480. G480 combs are prone to teeth breakage and length setting slider cracks. I anticipate that Multigroom combs will eventually encounter teeth breakage over time. Fortunately, Norelco has been very good about providing replacement G480 combs when I have asked. Hopefully, they'll be just as generous replacing broken Multigroom combs. In comparison with other manufacturers' water resistant personal groomers that I've tried, their collective main shortfall has been too low a chromium content in their cutting steels. Too little chromium and the steels rust if you breathe on them. They require applications of machine oil after each and every steel use/washing, sometimes even requiring full steel disassembly, to fight rust formation (because cuttings ALWAYS gets in between sliding steels). P-N has found the sweet spot between carbon and chromium content in their groomer steels. Stays sharp over time without rusting. While the MPro and M7400 each came with a small tube of clear light machine oil for lubrication, should you need it, it's not needed for rust prevention. This is a huge plus because I always wash personal groomers and accessories after each use. I've never had any P-N personal groomer develop rust. In fact, I have yet to use a single drop of lube oil provided with a P-N Multigroom. Just washing, compressed air blow outs and air drying is almost all the maintenance I have ever had to do for a P-N groomer. Periodically, I have had to loosen to hex screws on the Multigroom main cutter blades to use compressed air to blow out trapped tiny hair clippings; but this is far short of full disassembly. This happens less than twice a year. The only things I do for Multigroom battery maintenance is to avoid more than 50% battery discharge and leave them plugged into to their AC chargers between uses. The chips in the Lithium ion batteries and the P-N provided chargers avoid over-charging and simply maintain a full charge. Left in standby AC charging mode, neither the Multigrooms nor their chargers become warm to the touch. Using the G480 mostly for edge work, I wind up running a Multigroom for ~15-20 minutes, in Turbo mode, for all other cutting tasks. That's well under P-N's runtime claim of 60 minutes, in non-Turbo mode, and very likely less than whatever all-Turbo mode runtime must be. (I fully rundown the G480's Ni-MH batteries once every other use, before fully charging, with no standby charging between uses. Once fully charged, the G480 doesn't support standby charging.) My Multigrooms fully recharge in less than an hour, usually in less than 1/2 hour, because I never fully discharge them. A fully discharged G480 needs 10 hours to fully recharge. My G480 is more than three years old and still on it's original battery, with no loss in performance. My MultigroomPro is coming up on two years, is also on it's original battery and performs very similarly to the brand new 7400. I expect the 7400 to have similar longevity. I recommend the Phillips-NORELCO Multigroom 7400 as a buy for DIY groomers. You might find it to be the only weapon that you need in your grooming arsenal, but I will still be keeping my dedicated shaver and trusty P-N G480.

Philips Norelco - Affordable yet great performance

I have been using Philips Norelco products for years. I have been using the previous generation one over 4 years. Never failed on me, battery life is pretty fair for my regular use. This 7400 unit is identical to my previous model in all aspect including accessories, but a slight difference in the trimmer look. This is not for precision trimming like beard or mustache. This is a great body generic beard trimmer. I use a different product for precision trimming along with Philips Norelco for regular trimming. Nose trimming attachment is a great addition to the accessories. For the price and quality I would highly recommend Philips Norelco 7400 series.

This is a very nice cordless wet/dry trimmer. I am impressed with the number of included attachments and their versatility. It will take a little bit of practice and experimenting to find the right settings for each one but they all work very well. The only minor issue with the attachments was that it is a little tricky to get right under your nose. Battery life seems to be excellent and it works very well in wet or dry conditions. My only two minor complaints are that the included bag for the trimmer and attachments didn't have pockets or individual places in it to put each attachment. Everything is just dumped into it and you kind of have to dig around to find the one you are looking for. My other "would be nice to have" would be a charging cradle versus just plugging the charging cable into the bottom of the trimmer.

This trimmer is very easy to use and doesn't take much time at all to learn the ins and outs of it. One of the coolest features of this trimmer is that it can fully charge the battery in an hour. It makes it very convenient for when you need to charge it quick. The trimmer comes with a very nice carrying case that you can store the trimmer, charging cable, and attachments in and is the perfect size for when you're traveling. No more fumbling around with loose attachments if you didn't get a carrying case with your other trimmer! The attachments are very easy to change, it just takes a simple twist and it can be removed with ease. Putting the beard/body hair trimmer attachments takes very little time. This trimmer also comes with some lubricating oil to help keep the maintenance of the attachments.

    Great Trimmer

I've never had a trimmer before and I really like this one. The different attachment options are great. They all work great and give clean lines if that's what you're looking for or trim down the hair properly. I also don't feel any tugging. It's truly trimming. The battery life is as advertised in my usage. I can confirm that it didn't die after use in the shower. It came with a bag to store/carry it in, and it's a nice one. Everything fits inside very well. It's not too small that you have to take the attachments out to find the one that you want. One complaint, I wish that the charger was a stand that you could place the trimmer in. It's like a phone charger. You have to lay the trimmer down after plugging it in. I wound't call that a deal killer, just a preference. I would recommend this trimmer.

This worked well in the first 6 months, after that it stopped working. There is a white sticky substance where the trimmer body contacts the trimmer head, once that sticky substance falls off , the trimmer head does not work any long. I would not recommend this to anyone.Other trimmers at lower prices ,would not have this issue.

    Replaced Three Bathroom Appliances

I was skeptical when I received the multi-groomer. I always am of rechargeable tools and appliances. After fully charging it though I put it right to work. Since the initial body hair grooming, I have trimmed the eyebrows, around the ears, nose hairs and my hair. The multi-groomer performed perfectly in each case. I still haven't had to recharge the battery and it was more than powerful enough to cut through my very thick hair that even my expensive electric trimmer has trouble with. The attachments are easy to use and attach. It's light, but not to small to handle, and it's water proof to boot. If it had an actual shaving attachment it would be the only thing I need in the bathroom except a comb and a tooth brush. Hey, maybe a toothbrush attachment in the future. Just saying.

If all you want to do is trim nose and/or ear hair, you can get a good trimmer for $20 or less. However, if you want to trim that hair, as well as face, head, and/or body, the 7400 is an excellent device! It charges quickly and should provide enough power for whatever hair cutting task you choose. The blades are self-sharpening steel and will easily and comfortably cut your hair, wherever it may be on your body. Of course, you should always be careful shaving the more delicate areas. In addition, the 7400 is light weight and comes with a variety of blades for a variety of grooming tasks. Should you choose, it can be used in the shower. For all that and a leather tote bag, it's also reasonably priced.

This is an awesome electric razor! Form: Small, slim and light design. Fits perfectly in your hand, and very easy to control as you are using it Function: Works perfectly on the first pass; no need to go over areas. Enough power for the coarsest hair, and I have yet to run the batter down after a full week. Rinses easily under running water, or you can use it in the shower. Plenty of attachments to cover any part of your body Only drawback: Because there are so many attachments, you have to remember what you used where. Also, there is not a control lever to make micro adjustments on a few of the combs (yes, 2 have it) Overall, a fine razor at a reasonable price

This is one of those products which you might not realize you needed until you have it in your possession. It was fun trying this out and I tried to use each attachment for this review although I doubt most people will need each attachment. Starting with the packaging when you receive it, the box is kind of cheap. The product is help in cheap plastic and the carrying case is almost stuffed in there. This only matters for those of you who like a great unboxing experience. Once you get the product out of the box, the unit itself feels high quality and has a solid feel to it though the product is mostly plastic. The plastic feels higher end. The blades and attachments are high quality metal and plastic depending on what you are using. The box includes multiple attachments / blades, the unit, a charger and a carrying case for all the pieces. I first tried the basic blade which is mostly meant for sideburns and similar hairlines. It did a great job evening out my sideburns which I usually use my blade razor for but did it right the first try. My razor usually takes a few swipes to get it just right. I tossed on the head hair comb to try to shorten my hair on my sideburns a bit and it blended them perfectly the first try (I have no experience mind you). I did notice the hair attachment does not use the standard clipper sizes I am used to at the barber shop. For example, a “6” on this unit is much shorter than you might expect from the barber’s “6”. The beard trimmer did a great job with my face hair as did the body hair trimmers. The blades were great and did not snag once creating a very comfortable cut. The nose hair trimmer was interesting since I have never found one of these that works well or comfortably. This one was painless and get every single spot I aimed it at. I was most impressed by the close body trimmer attachment, it allowed for very close cutting on the body. The unit is rated for wet/dry use so no issues there, I did not feel it would be much easier with wet hair in most circumstances though as the comb attachments are pretty spread out and do not lift the hair much. The unit also includes a turbo mode which is great if you are trying to get through some thick hair. This unit is great overall. My only complaints are I would prefer the combs to be closer together, a bit more metal in design of the product and maybe a charging stand instead of a cord. Otherwise, it is a great purchase and I highly recommend it.

I received this product in exchange for a review. The package comes with the trimmer, a charging adapter, a carrying bag, several timing heads, several attachments and trimmer oil. The carrying case is more than large enough for the trimmer and all attachments, as well as a few additional bathroom items for travel. The trimmer heads include the main hair trimmer, an ear and nose trimmer, a detail trimmer (smaller width than the main trimmer), and a body shaver meant for all hair below the neck line. In addition to the trimmer heads, there are 3 attachable combs to use over the main trimmer: one for facial hair, one for body hair and on for using the trimmer as a hair clipper. Each comb has variable length settings indicated by the numbers on the back, which click up and down with ease. It’s a wet/dry trimmer, so it can be used conveniently in the shower or washed off in the sink. I’ve owned several Philips Norelco trimmers over the years, so I have a few points of comparison for this trimmer. The selection of trimmers and combs is the best I’ve seen so far. In addition, the battery life if very good for the size of the device. The trimmer heads are easy to attach and remove by twisting on and off rather than snapping on. Additionally, the main trimmer and detail trimmer face different directions, probably so that you can only use the main trimmer with the attachment combs. I was able to use each of the trimmers and attachments except for the hair clipper comb, but I am certain I could use it if needed. There are only a few things I wish it had or could do better. For one, that the regular power seems a little weak with certain larger attachments, making the turbo mode the required setting. Additionally, this trimmer doesn’t have suction or a catch for hair trimmings. That’s a feature I’ve enjoyed on other Philips Norelco trimmers, but it’s not a deal breaker. Finally, it would be nice to have some attachments for the detail trimmer for trimming hair around the mouth, but the other attachments can work as well. Overall, this is a solid grooming package with a great variety of options. I would recommend this as an option for someone looking for a durable multi-purpose electric trimmer or body groomer.

Beards and body not a close shave replacement

If you are looking for a close shaver to replace your normal daily razor this is probably not the shaver you are looking for. The stubble shaver looks like the traditional electric razor however it does not cut close enough to keep you from needing a blade razor afterwards. If you are going for the stubble look or have a full beard you want to maintain, then this is the razor set for you. The blades and trimmers work well but they do not get the skin smooth to the touch. The Stubble razor attachment cannot be taken apart easily to clean like a traditional electric razor. The plastic guides combs for the other cutters are a little flimsy so I would be careful when using them. Changing the attachments can be a little challenging because they are smooth thus hard to grip and twist especially with wet hands. The best design of the set is the nose trimmer compared to others I have used. It is designed in such a way that it smoothly spins while removing the hair without catching skin. If you are looking for a razor for all the other beard and basic grooming or in prep for a real metal razor i.e. to remove hair to speed up your laps in the swimming pool then you will probably love this. As far as it being water resistant. I did use it in the shower however it is counterproductive because the water causes the hair to lay flat against the skin so the razor can’t cut it as well as if it were dry and sticking out. It charges quickly and the turbo mode makes quick work of thicker hair. Final note. I know it is not what it is designed for but I think this would also make a great small pet grooming tool with all the attachments and guides.

This replaced a Norelco multigroom 5100 which I was using primarily for stach and beard trimming, which it does very well. In particular, trimming is very even, no extra hair poking out. The 7400 is more solid feeling, a little more powerful, possibly a little more waterproof (shower capable vs water cleanup), and has a little better runtime. That having been said, unless your planning on using it in the shower, I'm not sure it's worth double the price of the 5100, which has all the same attachments and trims just about as well.

I knew I was going to get this, and for several weeks beforehand I didn't shave anything anywhere and just let my hair, beard, earss, etc, just grow unchecked -- much to my wife's chagrin. But, to thoroughly evaluate a trimmer I knew I'd have to have plenty of hair to try it out on so... I took one for the team. First, I normally shave my head bald and for years I've used everything from a regular razor to a full-size corded barber trimmer. The razor always shaved the closest and could be done in the shower, but it also took the most time and constantly shaving my head, in addition to normal shaving, could go through razors pretty quickly and was relatively costly. Using a full-sized corded trimmer, like what you'd see in a barber shop, was cleaner and more convenient on the one hand, but on the other hand it didn't shave as close, I couldn't take it into the shower, and I was always tied to a power outlet. Finally, the weakness of both of these is that they were just one tool of several needed for complete grooming. Enter the Norelco Multigroom 7400 -- The convenience of shaving in the shower plus the convenience and freedom of not having a cord. In fact, the Multigroom 7400 won't work at if it's still plugged in. And, the convenience of one tool that can pretty much handle any personal grooming task thrown at it. The basic attachment easily shaved several weeks of hair off my head down pretty close to the scalp. I could have stopped there and it would have been as short as what I normally got with my legacy corded trimmer. But I wanted to see how close I could get, so I then swapped out for the body shaver attachment, which very much resembles a classic electric shaver head, I was able to get my head shaved to just barely longer than having taken a razor to it. I was very pleased with that result. The detail trimmer worked very well for shaping my goatee and the body shaver attachment worked well for a general shave on my face. The end result was not as smooth as a razor, but it was plenty close for normal daily shaving and much more convenient, but I'd keep a razor around for those times when you want a truly close shave. It's not the elegant side of grooming, but the Multigroom 7400 nose and ear trimming attachments did their job as well. I've had previous such trimmers that were so loud when in my ear it was almost painful. This wasn't a whisper by any means, but the in-ear volume was acceptable and more along the line of what I'd consider "normal". Finally, although it was billed as wet/dry trimmer, I was skeptical about how well it would work when my hair was wet. I was truly surprised at just how well it did. If you don't ever need or desire a down-to-the-skin close shave this could possibly replace your need for a razor entirely. For me it has been great, and my wife has been very pleased with how well it cleaned me up after a few weeks of shagginess!

There's not much to say about this trimmer. It does a great job of cutting and the multitude of attachments are nice. Like all previous models in the Multigroom series it has good long battery life and the blades seem to stay sharp for years. I'd say for the price it's a little annoying they don't include a cleaning brush or eyebrow guide. It's entirely too loud for using on the ears. My previous multigroom was much quieter. That being said it only seems to be loud up close, not across the room. Be careful with the "stubble comb"...it tends to cut really close if you don't hold it at just the right angle.

I got this to replace a trimmer that I wasn't happy with. This trimmer is easy to use and does a super job of cutting. I'm not sure why they provide 3 different guides, as one could cover the entire range of cutting lengths. I ended up choosing one of them and I have not changed it since. I have not tried the other attachments yet. The case it comes with is way too big for the trimmer and accessories. I'm guessing it is supposed to be a travel case for toiletries, but it isn't quite big enough for me. It is nicely made, however. Overall, excellent trimmer that I will enjoy using for years to come.
