Animal has spawned several knock-off, such as the recent Old School, largely because it set the standard for college slob comeides, or just crude humor in general. Some of this film just seems downright offensive, even by today's relatively lax standards. One can only imagine how people felt about this when it came out. But with that said, this movie is glorious, and remains one of the funniest comedies of all time.' The story is that of Delta House, a fraternity so bad in terms of behavior and academics that the stiff-collared dean of the college it's located at has declared that he will finally get it shut down. Meanwhile, the Deltas go about their slovenly and raucous business, wreaking havoc on the campus and just generally having a grand old time. Eventually, they are forced to try to salvage their frat by proving to the school board that they are worthy to continue at the school. The point isn't the plot. Not that it's poor, or even negligible, but it's just that this movie is REALLY funny, and that's really the reason to see it. The formula has been copied a million times. The results were just never this good.

While I saw this movie years ago, I didn't own it on DVD until recently. As my kids are now in their late teens, and saw a clip on a show profiling classic movies, I decided to finally buy it so they could watch it with me. To this day, I still find myself laughing at it and my kids remarked how funny they found it also. One of Belushi's best movies for sure. The DVD extras were great and the "Class Reunion" was awesome seeing the actors in present form. There is nudity, profanity and drug use in the movie, so it probably won't be a good idea for younger viewers, but for everyone else this classic comedy is a must see and a must own.

Bad news first, the Blu Ray release for Animal House does not boast stunning video and room-shaking audio (and it really shouldn't). Good news, it is the best this movie has ever looked. It was a fairly low-budget film and it gets the Blu Ray transfer it deserves. Casual viewers will notice it looks extremely clear. Experts might say otherwise, but I thought it looked great. The audio is also great. Diologue is clear and so are the excellent array of songs that are featured in the movie. This movie certainly doesn't appeal to everyone, so it is hard to recommend. I love this movie, and this Blu Ray release pleased me. Recommended to anyone who really likes the movie.

Got this as a Father's Day gift for my dad, we've watched it together twice now. It really does look a lot clearer, you'll spot some stuff you probably didn't catch before. Audio sounds crisp even with a subwoofer. Still hilarious after all these years, great gift for someone who was in college during that era ;)
