Great feel and look but cable only lasts 6 mos

The Native Union cable is a great looking iPhone accessory. It's length is perfect and the weighted ball is a nice touch as it prevents the cable slipping off surfaces. However, like all cables sooner or later the connection becomes frayed and makes charging your phone difficult. I would have expected, given it's a braded cable and it's strong rubber like housing for the lightning connection would have lasted longer than 6 months? I'm not sure if I have a dud or I need a cable that's more durable.
